The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica, in collaboration with the Fort Young Hotel, will host the Eighth Annual Dame Eugenia Charles Memorial Lecture on Thursday, November 28, 2013 commencing at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Young Hotel Conference Room.
Cynthia Barrow-Giles, Lecturer of Political Science at UWI Cave Hill, will speak on the topic: “Men in Skirts, Gendering Democracy and Shaping the Nation: The Unfinished Democratic Agenda.”
In this lecture, Barrow-Giles will focus on the key question: What difference, if any, does the presence of women make in the Commonwealth Caribbean’s political system?
Barrow-Giles has worked with The UWI for the last 24 years, and her areas of research include Caribbean international relations, general elections and women & political participation in the Commonwealth Caribbean.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will provide an opportunity for guests to listen to the speaker present for about 40 minutes.
Following the presentation, guests will be able to interact and to generate meaningful discussions about the influence of the topic on the Caribbean region.
