DBS board chairman expresses concerns over other radio stations

dbs-radioChairman of the DBS Board of Director, Rosie Mills, has expressed concern over what he said are character assassination and programs calculated to incite people to break the law on other radio stations in Dominica.

Speaking at a function to observe the station’s 45 anniversary on the weekend, he did not name the radio stations but said radio has lost its fervor and divine intervention is needed.

According to Mills, there are numerous radio stations now operating on the island.

“And that’s fine,” he stated. “Information gets about faster and in the age of information and technology, that is a given.”

However, he said he has a problem with some radio stations.

“But what irks me is when some stations allow themselves to used by persons to character assassinate others,” he stated. “This throws the whole fraternity into disarray and worse, when those stations have programs calculated to incite persons to break the law, then radio has really lost its fervor and we need divine intervention.”

Mills said the issue can be fixed.

“Can we fix this, you ask, of course, we can,” he said. “If we only take commitment from a committed people and the resolve to do a 360.”

How many good people are there in Dominica? Better yet, how many good people access DNO? Note the indifferent responses of some of them.
They should be careful what type of programs they air. When people get tired of listening to the crap which is not enlightening or elevating, they will cease listening. It may take some years but one day it will happen.
A good discussion is enjoyable but consistent word-throwing and gossip can turn people off, if they are that type of people. They will become selective in what they listen to. This generally occurs as people age for age brings reason. Their interests change.
God help the younger people who must be subject to listening to such radio programs; also viewing such TV programs.
    Mr. Mills is correct.

It would have been nice to hear you say also that you condemn the use of DBS owned transport to carry out such actions

  4. November 15, 2016

Sir, are you really serious? Do you want to dictate to the general public what should and shouldn’t be be said? Have you listened to your PM? He wants his supporters to go up to anyone who opposes him and call them traitors. Is there anything more inciting? Stop singing, your supper is safe.

That`s where I have a problem .Mr. Mills made a valid point…He open the door for dialogue and instead of inviting the discussion and change things for the betterment of broadcasting ,they are stoning him down. This is an opportunity to rally for a common purpose to bring respect across the board…Where do we go from here?`What are the standards we `re going to set to live in a peaceful manner? Fighting with fire has never worked, someone needs to supply common ground. The attitude of name calling and putting down is not the right way to go……. Can we come together to make thing better. Its an all inclusive situation..It`s time to move beyond that attitude of you do it and I can do it too.Doing what is right is called showing the difference even when thing are not in your favor…What will be next?

Those who have younger family members as also children, should be careful what they say for they are also listening. They could be visiting younger ones or neighbors’ children. They learn from what they see and hear, by examples.

Massive, you deserve to get 1000 thumbs down because you have also failed, like the Chairman to offer an objective and qualitative statement on the matter. The Chair deliberately spoke in aghast and did not make any mention of a station or stations with concrete and qualitative examples that the pubic can be aware of and contribute t. Also, he failed to make reference of our Own state radio failing to offer qualitative argument where the matter can be debated comparing what he thinks DBS Radio does best and where they are weak. Is Mills a journalist or an insurance person meaning you must have some background knowledge in whatever you wish to be a critic of. In absence of this Mills your statement is vague, unfounded , partisan as you fail to note that whenever the PM wants an audience where he may not be questioned on state matters, he runs to DBS and fails to engaged other stations where he knows he will be grilled and answer to the people of Dominica. So sir, please listen to Q9

Why do these people speak? When he had to speak up condemning the use of the DBS vehicle in the recent sage, the DBS management and Board, opted to take the moo moo way. If one hand hand you choose to stay mute, then quite frankly all credibility in my mind has been lost and I don’t want to hear anything you have to say on others matter. Just keep on being moo moo, u hear.

Well said. The comes is in their backyard, where a child is physically and emotionally abused in public in and outside of a The State owned DBS Radio vehicle and this staff is not disciplined and sent home for a month? This is double standard hypocrisy and ignorance. Mr. Mills you are not n the position to talk n matters f social ills, especially if where y9u now sit is a questionable engaging positon. Was this position advertised.
Mr Mills, clean up your news desk and DBS`s role in undertaking investigative journalism with your staff in the many disappearances of the PM, the passport scandals and sales etc…etc…

DBS*???????? This man needs to return to DBS and yes 360 it back to the inclusive Nation Station it used to be. Most of your so called journalists are labour party rats who have lost the moral fibre to be objective in the interst of Dominica. Look at the shame and disgrace …… Using your vehicle ………. Go clean up your closet before you attack other radio stations.

Obviously, Mr Mills knows nothing about radio but is she of one thing that the State owned radio will not allow any opposing views.

  9. Rosie, I think you need to shut up, and stop wanting to be heard; it’s the puppets like you who have Dominica in the state our nation is in today. You are trying to be running off your mouth to appease the puppet master who monitors your thoughts.

What people do or say on Radio Stations, they have a democratic right to express their opinions! I do not believe there is any place in the nations constitution where is dictates censorship of the opinions of people. You are not the law of the land. In the event someone goes on Radio and assassinate my character by saying things about me which are untrue, I should be sensible to determine what represents libel, and what is slander and pursue the matter in a court of law.

The crap you are talking is simply suggesting you puppet master Skerrit censor the Radio Stations you are jealously referring to. Keep on being a stooge, and continue singing for your plate of hog washing from Skerrit!

    • “You are trying to be running off your mouth to appease the puppet master who monitors your thoughts.”

You are trying to runoff your mouth to appease the master Roosevelt Skerrit who monitors your very thoughts, and imprint on your shallow brain what to say, are you not ashamed that your kind allow yourself to be manipulated by an incompetent boy no class boy like Skerrit.

Where is your pride, where is your conscience, and ambition. Slavery was abolished more than four hundred years ago. The colonial masters abandoned us in the late 1960’s, fro the wish no longer to be burdened with our problems and backwardness!

Today our nation is saddled with a new form of slavery, of which Roosevelt Skerrit is the owner of the slaves who depends on him for a handout, and puppets like you who are the new slave masters with your whip and gun in your hand!

Economic slavery is the worst kind, compounded with the rule of a dictator, and little rats like you vying to censor the voice of…

Some radio stations could be annoying to listen to which is an underestimation of how some people feel. As long as these have a listening and talking audience, they will continue. However, some people soon get tired of their programs, especially the call-in talk shows.
Some like to listen to gossip and defamation of the good character of others. They also like to throw words and spew out personal matters about them. Those programs encourage them.
Christians are warned about what we say, do, view, listen to and how we spend our time.
In the Imitation of Christ book entitled My Imitation of Christ, Useful Admonitions – Chapter 10 – Avoiding Superfluity of Words: “If it be lawful and expedient to speak, speak those things which may edify.”
We must bear in mind what Our Lord said about idle words and St. Paul about gossip.
As some people grow older they lose interest in such Radio/TV programs which are not uplifting. Others do not.

    November 14, 2016

Mr. Mills would do better to remember that DBS is a State owned body and that
the State does neither equate to the Government nor one single political, party. He would do better to uphold the right to equal access to all political parties and not curtail the rights of his editorial staff. It is not enough to pretend to be neutral by not denigrating the political opposition if at the same time you do not allow them air time to express their views and opinions, especially during election times.
You are not the mouthpiece of the ruling regime, whichever hue it may have at the time.

Mr.Mills, stop your BS and go address the nonsense taking place at the nation station. Are you serving notice that the cabal is about to silence the press? Well sir, just be mindful that back in 1979 when PJ and the SAME DLP tried to control the press he was booted from office. Back then our now so called president was chief rebel.

So Mr. Mills, please focus you energy on dealing with those “allegedly” DBS employees who assaulted a minor in public and in the vehicle owned by DBS (and we the tax payers by extension). Careful sir, any attempt to silence the press of media workers in Dca will countered by people action.

Who is Rosie Mills? A specialist in diversionary tactics? Freedom of speech and expression are paramount to me and, as long as they act within the bounds of our constitution I have no problem with any radio station, even if I may not like everything they broadcast.

    • The Truth Be Told
      November 15, 2016

One day the constitution will be null and void. It will be no more. This will be when God will judge all nations and people for what they have done on earth, in the body which also means what they say; their conversations. They will have to give him an account. Better believe it!
Therefore everyone must take note. No need to further elaborate.

It is not useful to the citizens to make wild general statements about what you regard as lack of appropriate standards of broadcast without stating specifically which stations you include in your broadside attack and what commentary you object to.. We have developed a pattern here of leaders launching all kinds of charges without specific background for citizens to review the facts of the matter…..And radio stations in our situation should report news in an unbiased way..

Radio has not lost its fervour or its relevance (which is what I believe you actually meant) and the dissemination of information via the radio airwaves is no less important than that of the world wide web.

Having said that, I hope your statements are not influenced by the shameful episode in which the whole world saw the……. of the same radio station celebrating its 45th anniversary, behave in what can be termed at best a disrespectful manner towards a minor.
