Minister for Tourism and Urban Renewal, Robert Tonge, has revealed that the Government of Dominica is set to announce who will be taking up the position of Head of Marketing at Discover Dominica Authority (DDA).
Ninety individuals from across the Caribbean, including two from Dominica, have applied for the job.
Tonge said that the official announcement will be made later this month, and cabinet has already approved the contract for the new Head, which will take effect from August 21st, 2017.
“One of the other things I know that we were missing at Discover Dominica Authority is that we haven’t had a Head of Marketing for the last couple of years,” he said on State-owned DBS Radio. “So soon we will announce that cabinet has approved a contract for the Head of Marketing of the DDA which is to start on the 21st of August.”
Tonge added that once August 21st comes around, a press conference will be called to reveal who the individual is.
According to him, the DDA has not had a Head of Marketing for a number of years and the step towards finally having one is geared towards enhancing the capabilities of Human Resource within the organization.
He described the Human Recourse recruitment process as very “rigid” in that a number of advertisements for the position were publicized both on a local and international scale and there were 90 applicants.
These applications had to be revised and it had to be ascertained whether or not the requirements were met, which led to the applicants being shortlisted to 21 persons, meaning that more than 70 applications were denied.
Of the two Dominican applicants, according to Tonge, was the short list of the 21 who were further interviewed, bringing the list down from twenty-one to six contenders.
The Cabinet will then have to make the final decision between the last two survivors of the elimination process.
Nobody wants to work in this environment, so many people come and after less that six months they resign. Can’t we see the problem is this minister Robbie clown. How can anyone in his right mind leave a great business handed to him to go kiss Skerrit A, BCDEFG?
A Barbadian (Bajan) national who worked in the South American Market representing the Barbados Tourism Authority is the person selected to the post of Head of Marketing at Discover Dominica Authority.
Those of us who are qualified, experienced in the Dominica Tourism Product, applied for the position and did not get a response, must now travel to Barbados to look for employment hopefully as a Bell Hop.
But that is life Then they say opportunities are available for Dominicans to stay home and help with National Development.
Did government do due diligence on that person through heartless Henry then?
Only two Dominicans. Why? Because the likes of you are discouraging Dominican intellectuals. This position I am sure many Dominicans applied for it before but you did not hire them. Instead you opened it up again and again rejecting the Dominican intellectuals because you can’t let go and allow these intellects to do their jobs without interference (not saying that their should not be oversight from higher levels)causing brain drain. This is a bad trend and its is hurting the career of abled Dominican intellectuals. It is causing people to question seeking tertiary education. Just as in the case of the CFO at DASPA. You mean to tell me with all the qualified Dominicans and our small population we cannot get a CFO in Dominica? Ridiculous. You all need to stop this. Stop this, stop this insulting Dominicans and allow our Dominican intellectuals to be elevated to a level of hard word and independence. #fedup
Thank you
Sincerely
Dominican
Well, one time they hired Skerrit’s sister for that job, the one that ran the aerial tram and that maddening song & dance weather forecast on Marpin, so don’t say they don’t hire Dominicans
If it were not for the abysmal public relations of the DLP the confusion that dominates the lives of Dominicans would dissipate. Why is there an announcement regarding a future announcement. This eagerness to divulge premature plans provides fuel to the ire of the opposition.
Only 2 Dominicans? Is it because other potential applicants might have thought, that there are no chances of being chosen, thinking that the employer might look upon them as being part of the opposition? Or not visibly align with the red team? VICTIMIZATION SHOULD BE CAUGHT OFF AT ALL COST!!! IT IS NOT GOOD FOR SWEET LITTLE DOMINICA.
I think ministry of tourism need a new head. you are the worst ever!!!!
Only 2 Dominicans applied? I am just in shock!
Don’t be, they do not improve themselves but sit on DNO criticizing everyone and everything and grudging
That makes you one of them!
oh don’t be shocked. These appointments are so political that Dominicans aren’t likely to apply even though they may hold the qualifications and experience.
Also this position has been advertised several times over the years since the position became vacant that persons like me are fed of reapplying, especially knowing from inside sources that if you are a Dominican applicant the board & cabinet won’t watch your application once, much less for twice, if they think you don’t support the reigning party.
So sad. It should be about what you bring to the table, not who you support politically.
Eh ben, good luck. You get that job but I bet Piper still attending all the travel shows and conferences, claiming his per diem.
