The construction of the Upper Carib Road and revival of a village feast are two major projects to be undertaken by the Delices Village Council for the year 2010.
Acting Village Council Clerk Pearline St.Ville said that the road project will begin as soon as next month while plans are being formulated to host the the Delice Food Fest in August.
“We recently completed the Megan Road and we intend to start on a road in the village, the Upper Carib Road… through government assistance from the Ministry of Community Development. One thing that the council has been
thinking about is bringing back of the village feast… to bring back the Food Fest. We had it several years back,” St. Ville disclosed.
According to St. Ville, the village council is also involved in some ongoing programs including adult education classes in culinary arts and computer science.
The village council official said such programs are geared towards eradicating a drug problem in the community.
“It is a big problem. That is why the council seeks to provide the opportunities for the youth to stay away from drugs…” she explained.
She also informed Dominica News Online of a project which entailed a list of courses being taught to villagers, including parenting. She added that with the support of the Peace Corp the council is trying to organize a library at its office where young persons would be able to do homework, research among other educational programs.
The Delices Village Council is headed by Chairman Delwin James, Vice Chairman Allan George and six other councilors.
