The Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW) is extending “sincere congratulations” to the seven women who were sworn in to the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Commonwealth of Dominica on Friday.

“We wish you good luck as you work towards the betterment of this great country,” the organization said in a release on Friday. “DNCW will provide you our full support as you work to make a positive difference. The job will not always be easy but your contributions are very much appreciated.”

The DNCW in addition congratulated all other members who were both elected and nominated, adding that they are “especially proud of the youth serving Dominica in Parliament.”

The release stated further that the Council looks forward to the day when the present percentage of 22.6 of women in Parliament will reach the 33 percent mark which also represents the percentage required by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)’s.

The release added that in two weeks, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women will be meeting in New York to review the achievements in advancing the quality of life for women globally, especially in relation to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of which Dominica is a State Party.

“We will be pleased to report the progress being made in respect of women in decision making. The Dominica National Council of Women wishes the government and people well in our current and future endeavours. Once again congratulations to these seven Honorable Women,” the DNCW.

I have a problem with women who cut their hair as men and want to take the place of the man. God has set His order in place. Let us follow GOd’s order.

The women elected must recognise that they are thee to serve the poor eople of Dominica and not the status quo. they are there to make a better future, to bring back democracy to make a difference. They are electe by the people not their party but the people.
