DOC to hire CEO and purchase its own property says Doctrove

Doctrove said the Olympic movement is big

President of the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) Billy Doctrove has announced that the DOC is now in search of its own property and will soon be hiring a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to manage its affairs.

“We even recently looked at a building that sometime soon we will want to purchase to make your home, your Olympic house like you have the Football House in Bath Estate. Most of the islands in the Caribbean already have their Olympic house with St. Lucia becoming the latest addition,” Doctrove said.

He did not give the location of the building but assured affiliates and the general public that like the rest of the region, the move was the way to go.

“They will soon be opening their Olympic House this month in St. Lucia and I have been invited to that opening ceremony but declined since the cost of that trip is to be borne by the DOC I will send a congratulatory email instead,” he revealed.

Doctrove spoke of the importance of having an Olympic House.

“We need our own Olympic home…the Olympic movement is a very big industry and we cannot afford to treat it as a back yard industry or a back yard shop. We have to put our house in order so that we can maximize the opportunities out there so that we can give our athletics the greatest chance to fulfill the potential of our many talented athletes that we have,” he stated.

He stressed the importance of having a CEO.

“The DOC and the Olympic movement is huge and for us to maximize the benefits of our own efforts, we need to be in a better position to access all the funds out there available to us…this a time-consuming job and we need someone there full time to do that,” Doctrove said.

He stated that “we cannot afford to run the DOC as a little back yard structure we have to make a difference and expose ourselves to the international world.”

“We have to make a difference and a change,” he remarked.

Majority of you here are band wagonists. Ok Billy is your partner and you admire him or you want to be his friend so you can talk about cricket. Cool but his proposition to buy this place is nonsense. who will pay for it? What we need is a multipurpose facility for all our athletes to train. Not a house to file papers and have drinks and hold meetings.

Training Facility needed…..Select and start training the athletes from NOW.

I wonder if Ma Dominique Children will accept that, we are so much in the negative like the INTERNATIONAL airport D/ca pose said that all the other Islands have Jet airport so D/ca don’t need one, so some Dominicans must say St. Lucia have one we will use theirs

Ok so you cannot go the opening of the Olympic House in St. Lucia (a one time event) because it’s too expensive. But a recurrent expenditure will be created to hire a CEO?

Good vision. For the next Olympics we need to have a team of 20 or more in track and field, swimming and boxing. We should get coaches as technical assistance for this. We need to locate an area as an Olympic village with playing field and all the treamings in time for future games. THINK BIG.

See he is taking the advice of his Barbadian counterpart they do have a full time CEO. Actually he is also the president of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation. But it is the right move.

A job you want to give somebody man Billy? You not able to deal with the administrative and office aspect of the job? you just want to play sports? Now you want to have an Olympic house and own own property. What nonsense and a waste. why not have a facility and office at the National Stadium? That facility has enough room and space for storage of equipment and machinery for training. the government can make an office available to the Committee for its operation. Too much are we settling for excuses and haphazardry. when our athletes go to the Olympics and succeed it is the Nation and the government who feels proud. Governemtn fiirst to congratulate out national athletes. Why doesnt the DOC and other sports officials insist that special location be made for the DOC? Stockfarm is being talked about for a sports center, why can the DOC find a home there also? Why must you now look for property to buy? also will this property be adequate and spacious enough for training of athletes?

Or will it just be another place for the DOC to meet and hang out at and another key to put on your key ring billy? you need a multi purpose facility where all your athletes can come under one roof and train. Not a house to have meetings and parties and spend your afternoons. Just my take. Also you should be able to deal with the day to day runnings of your organisation, not hiring a CEO to do it for you.

DOC will run independent from Govt. , as it should be. If that bothers you, so be it.

DOC loaded with cash, man? Billy bro when you ran for the post didn’t you know that real work wasinvolved in making things happen? Step up and run the organisation. You don’t need a CEO. Delegate work to the rest of the team who ran for elections and volunteered to run things.
