Dominica Lions receive regional award

At the recently concluded 22nd Multiple District 60 Midyear Conference of Lions Clubs International, which was held in Montego Bay, Jamaica from November 17-21, 2010, the Dominica Lions Club received an award for outstanding work in geriatrics and senior citizens care for Zone 2C.

The award served as a means of highlighting the work which the club has done during the first quarter of the Lionistic Year in caring for the elderly in the community.

Club President, Lion Louisiana Dubique, who attended and participated in the conference, received the award on behalf of the club from District Governor, Lion June McCatty, MJF.

The club’s work in the area of education was highlighted in a report by Zone Chairman, Lion Terrence “Tebo” Richards of St. Kitts, especially through its project in August where the Grade K Class of the Penville Primary School was repainted and storage containers donated for use by the students.

In keeping up with its mandate to serve and provider quality community service, the club also handed over 72 cartons of school supplies, valued at US$4,317 to a number of schools around the island on Monday, November 22, 2010. These supplies were donated by individuals and companies in the United States through Hands Across the Seas, a nonprofit organization working with groups throughout the Caribbean.
