Dominica must pursue climate resilient strategy says PM Skerrit

PM Skerrit said Dominica must follow a climate resilient strategy

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has stated that climate resilient strategy is something Dominica must pursue at this time because of changes in weather patterns.

Speaking at the launch of Climate Resilient Execution Agency of Dominica (CREAD) on Friday, he said Dominica doesn’t really have a choice at this time.

“I say to you our partners, and I will also reiterate to the citizens and residents of this country that we do not have any other choice but to pursue that vision and mission,” Skerrit stated.

He stated that climate change is real and everything must be done to make its effects less severe.

“Climate change is real and we have to take all of the necessary human action to first mitigate against it but also to be more resilient in the event that we are visited by another such tragedy,” the Prime Minister said referring to Hurricane Maria which devastated the island in September last year.

He added, “And we must commit ourselves to this idea to ensure that we have a safer Dominica and I daresay a safer region for the succeeding generations. We are doing this for our children and our grandchildren and we owe it to them as the current generation.”

Skerrit stressed his commitment to the strategy.

“As the Prime Minister of Dominica, I give and I reiterate my firmest solidarity and commitment to this cause because I believe it is the only and right path to pursue at this time,” he stated.

CREAD is expected to coordinate all reconstruction work to avoid duplication, maximize economies of scale, spot and fill critical gaps, avoid bureaucratic infighting and ensure all reconstruction activities are focused on a single Climate-Resilient Recovery Plan developed by Dominica and its partners.

The Honorable Lennox Linton will be the next Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The silent majority is quickly gathering the momentum to vote Lennox and UWP into office. Once and for all we will have a Government voted into power by local residences that will promote the people’s best interest.
UWP did more in Dominica and for Dominicans in four years than dlp did in 17 yrs .

Your disregard for the rule of law is a big issue on my list of the disrespectful things you have in the face of Dominicans and I am taking heed of this dictatorial mannerisms that is getting into your head.
The U.S , U,K and the World bank are looking at your behavior and trust me the rope is coming to an end.

Scare-it is driving Dominica to the ground, like Haiti was done by Papa and Baby Doc. I’ve been saying this for years now and it’s looking like it is getting closer to fruition…keep watch my people.

Any amount of money flow in his account and he do give a …. about Dominica. He is not a leader but a misleader corrupted and ignorant and as well he likes to keep his citizens like sheep. Wake up!!

Skerrit is just a walkie talkie that only talks but no action to backup his talk. I heard the same nonsense after Erika in 2015 and to date the Walkie Talkie did nothing about climate resilient. In fact he did nothing to protect against a day of rain that comes with or without a flood. Example, Erika destroyed 3 main bridges on his west coast highway and to date not ONE has been repaired in fact even his Baily bridge even got destroyed an to date he has not even attended to the Baily bridge, let alone the main bridges. I guess he might have even used those bridges that collapsed in 2015, to convince world bank and foreign donors that they were destroyed by Maria. I am just fed up with this damn Walkie Talkie PM we have there.

Dance puppet dance. Do what the power brokers tell you so that you can stay in office. The people aren’t so stupid anymore though it remains to be seen if they will actually get out and try to put you out of power come election time…….that is if anyone else with integrity is running. Then again, someone might be able to throw in the name of a donkey or dog and it might get elected. Could it do any worse? The Constitution would have to be changed so that somebody else was the financial officer though, which is a good idea anyway.

Skerrit can talk as much as he wants; he can talk Climate Resilient as much as he wants; he can talk CREAD as much as he wants; he can relocate people as much as he wants; he can build river wall and sea walls as tall as the tower of Babel. No matter what he does his curse will follow him. In 2016 he relocated a village only to find out every house he built was destroyed. The man is not clean and evil CANNOT Prosper! So let him talk as much as he wants but evidence on the ground is enough to convince us that his works are evil and will never Prosper no matter how strong he builds! The God I serve does not bless evil. The sooner Dominicans realize that the better and safer for us. He will build but his buildings will be destroyed as seen in everything he has set his hands to do. He will talk hurricane or climate resilient but even a passing cloud will destroy his works because they are evil. Just as the works of Abel we’re rejected so too are the works of Skerrit

  16. March 12, 2018

I have to applaud the PM for his good speeches but at the same time am not seeing nothing to back it up. Dominica by now should have the most money ? in Caribbean but when you take a look at the country now and even before Erica and Maria it still remains the most under developed country in Caribbean . You people talking resilience and not even a simple road you people can fix.

Very well said @peaches. All the man does is talk talk talk but no action to show for his talking. If the man was not just a talker with monies he got from Venezuela, sale of passports, World Bank, EU and many friendly governments both those we know of and those received in secret, Dominica for sure would be one of the most developed countries in the Caribbean. But alas my God! The place continues to be the poorest in the Caribbean under Skerrit. Can we not see? Can we not hear? Do we not travel people? What then is wrong with us? Did Sukuyan peepee on us or was voodoo performed on us? I just can’t understand the spell we seem to be under man

Skerrit, you can go for you CREAD ones it has been discussed in parliament and not any sooner. We are not going to allow you to govern Dominica by degree. This practice has to stop right now. You are, like it or not, accountable to the citizens of Dominica, represented by the parliament.

    Re construction work indeed ;
How about reforestation of this beloved country .
Maria decided to show us if we continue to cut down our thousand year old trees , she will breeze through the rest to teach us several lessons .
A major one being, natural wind breaks are meant to protect against strong winds.

Dominica is only 20 to 25% cleared for living and farming since discovery.
close to 80% of the Island is/was in its natural state prior to Maria.

And we all agree!!!!! However it has to be done the right way. You need to respect the citizens of this country and respect the opinions of people who know better than you. Bei g prime minister does not vive you the power to do as you please or know it all. 17 years of records tell me you mostly full of BS and has done everything to make Dominica extremely vulnerable financially and otherwise. Because of your ridiculous charity philosophy generations of Dominicans will be on welfare because you have spent more time belittling instead of empowering, dividing instead of uniting, begging instead of creating, implanting laziness instead of hard work and pride in self, and dictating instead of leading. What Dominica needs more than anything else is political resilience so we can get rid of yours and any sorry government that comes after untill we get people who know what it realy takes to get a goverment tbat can steer us in the winds of progress.

Firstly, the population must have a very clear understanding of the term climate resilience. Secondly, government must lead concretely by example. Everyday one reads and hears about millions of dollars in donations and contributions to Dominica from foreign countries, agencies and organizations. Yet, citizens are barely seeing any monumental changes to the physical landscape. There is a feeling of hopelessness which hovers over the entire country. The powers that be don’t seem to have the intellectual capacity to think strategically for the betterment of the country.
