Dominican author, Kristine Simelda, has officially launched her new novel, River of Fire, at the Romance Cafe in Mero.

The book, which continues from her first work ‘A Face in the River,’ is an absorbing cross-cultural adventure novel that grapples with hard issues of power, wealth, family ties, environmental terrorism, and personal absolution in conscientious and courageous ways.

Will the island and people of Emerelda survive the devastation of a major volcanic eruption? Will the heroine in the book Krystal Sutherland, also known as “The Green Goddess,” find her way back home?

Here’s what Alick Lazare, author of the historical Caribbean novels Pharcel and Kalinago Blood, has to say of the new book: “River of Fire tells of the unrelenting struggle of the protagonist, Krystal Sutherland, to keep the pristine Caribbean island of Emerelda from the clutches of international exploiters. To save her adopted homeland from destruction, Krystal, along with her ally Abdullah, faces the enemy head-on while also attempting to rescue her sons—one from misdirected political ambition, the other from abduction and almost certain death. But a catastrophic volcanic eruption puts her up against incalculable odds. The tone of River of Fire is lyrical and fast-paced. The descriptions of multi-cultural characters and varied landscapes are vivid and authentic as the seamless series of events spans the distance between the glittering sophistication of California and the rainforests of rustic Emerelda. Romantic dreams are tinged with stark reality in this story of love, courage, and dedication to preserve what is best in nature and the human experience.”

River of Fire, and other novels by Simelda, is available from booksellers in Dominica or from Amazon.

I admire the innovation and creativity that is pushing Dominca forward.

We are seeing young people going to college or university and getting degrees in the sciences and technology.

Young people are winning Royal Recognition. Performers are finding their place in the arts and the world of theater. Artists and musical groups are writing new songs, doing concerts, producing C.D.s and DVDs.

And now an author has had a new book published :!:

I congratulate you one and all :!:

To young people I would say believe in God AND in yourself :!: You can become what you set your mind to be IF it is God’s plan for your life. And He DOES have a plan and purpose for YOU. Discover it :!: Pursue it :!:

Read Jeremiah 29:11. It is God’s promise to you!

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
