Coordinator for the NCCU Cadence Lypso Show and Chairman of Cadence Lypso Inc. Dexter Ducreay, has revealed that Dominican-born musical icon, Gordon Henderson, will feature at the 2016 edition of the Cadence Lypso competition.
The competition will be staged at the Pottersville Savannah on November 2 and speaking at a press conference on Monday, October 31, Ducreay said Henderson had always been helpful in staging the event.
“Gordon Henderson, from since the inception of the Cadence show, has always been helpful to us, irrespective of the capacity we’ve requested his assistance,” Ducreay stated.
Ducreay emphasized that Henderson is international, but it must be remembered that he is Dominican and he is “our own.”
“I want to ensure that we give him the respect that we have,” he said.
Present at the press conference were the 11 artistes and representatives of the four bands set to compete on the night of the competition.
The event will be held in three parts where the 11 artists perform first, followed by the 4 bands, then a special performance by Henderson to close the show.
The performers are as follow; artistes: Derose Dexter Peltier, Val Cuffy, Charles Leatham, Jude Delauney, Anton Joseph (Current King), Delma Daniel, Chris Sylvester, Jerd Dorsette, Kelly Williams, Murphy Jon. Jules and John Mark and bands: Breve, Signal Band, TiOrkest and Lucas Band.
Tickets are available at $60.00 in advance, $70.00 at the gate and $140.00 V.I.P.
The competition started five years ago and the goal of the venture are to rejuvenate the cadence art form, to expose and cultivate Dominican talents and to create an export product for Dominica.
How can someone be an International Artist when the person is only known in Dominica and perhaps Guadeloupe and Martinique?
When one say international, they are talking about world wide: All over the world; the only time Henderson name is mentioned in the United States, is when someone a Dominican abut his age mentioned it. That guy is not an internationally known musician!
If you are in the music business; to be internationally known your music has to played on Radio all over the world, in addition to doing live performances. Patios songs are not played on Radio Stations in America, Canada, nor anywhere in Europe; South and Central America.
As big as Slinger Francisco (Sparrow) was in his day, to even perform in Africa, North America, and London, he crossed no other borders performing, yet he cannot be classified as internationally know.
As far as I am concern that can only be apply to the late Bob Marley, and Harry Bellafonte.
When I read this article, I am disappointed with its contents. This man just does not know Gordon Henderson and how well known he is in the music world. To say he is only known is Dominica and PERHAPS in Gaudeloupe and Martinique is a total understatement. Al I will say to him is do some research and get facts before he speaks loosely.
Let me tell you something, in as much as you think I do not know Gordon Henderson, let me inform you that I know him dating to the days when he played for a band in Guadeloupe, along with Richards from Antigua, who is the brother of the former West Indian Cricketer, Vivian Richards!
Richards lived opposite to my house on Kentish Road in Antigua, where Gordon visited with Richards. Shut your bloody mouth okay!
To be an international artist, your music have to be played intentionally, you have to do live performances internationally.
Where in the world you know Dominica patios songs are played and sold? If patios songs are not appreciated by people on the other Caribbean islands, patios songs are not in any record stores than perhaps Dominica if there are any, how on earth this man can be an international artist?

Look here, there is a band in Grand Bay called Gramax International I believe; they were brought here by a Haitian Promoter to perform at Hollywood Park Casino and Race Track; the few people who attended were all Haitians and Dominicans. I did not see one, not even one curious American face in the crowed!
When the music started, I did not see one person I can say was an American who came to see what that style of music was about; you all like to believe that Dominica, and Dominicans are so know through out the world that it is impossible for Gordon not to be known internationally.
Calypso is big in the Caribbean: I have lived in Europe, and traveled to many different places I have never heard Calypso played radio, except on a Radio Station located on a university campus in Santa Monica, and it is not a permanent feature, they only play for the benefit to students who are interested in other cultures!
You are such an Idiot. First of all Gordon doesn’t sing patois, he sings Creole. Secondly He sings in English too. Exile One’s music can be heard all across Latin America, South Africa, the Indian Ocean, France, Belgium Germany, Anglo and French Caribbean. You are just filled with rage and anger. Whatever issues you have with Gordon, go deal with your own heart and stop trying to dis an Icon. Listen to the intro of Daft Punk’s “Get lucky”. Then Listen to Gordon’s “More Power” Where do you think the inspiration came from??? I know for a fact that Gordon is clearly enjoying the benefits from this inspiration. How much more international do you want it to get? Maybe in your backyard would do the trick I guess.
Gordon has never practiced in Antigua neither with Vian Richard’s brother. The only Vivian Gordon performes with is vivian wallace who is a member of exile one. I think you have gordon confused with someone else. @Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
I notice the standard of the competition has gone down this year up to this time you cant pick out a hit song from the fifteen finalist where is halibut
Look Us band DNO FYI
Hopefully Skerrit ain’t tell him to deliver subliminals in his performance like he TOLD ACORN, or does he pay them extra $$$ for that?
