Roseau, DOMINICA: After rebooting a first failed attempt, photographer Yuri A. Jones was able to rally enough support to succeed at his second Kickstarter campaign.
The US $8,500 raised will allow him to print 250 copies of Majestic and Magical, a photo-book that features landscape and nature images of Dominica.
The book is a compilation of Jones’ best work between 2012 and 2015. Readers will see approximately 20 different Dominican locations from his perspective throughout the 12×9 inch hardcover book.
When asked why he opted to publish a book, Jones replied: “I wanted to step outside of the digital realm. The act of holding onto a tangible product and actually flipping through its pages gives a unique experience.”
He added: “The book format allowed me to tell a story with my photographs. I chose the placement of each photograph so that readers can follow along and flow from page to page seamlessly.”
With more than 130 images spread over 144 pages, Majestic and Magical is a great parting gift for visitors or Dominicans living abroad.
When asked about his next steps, Jones said, “I’d really like to raise enough funds to print at least 500 copies but in the meantime, I’m working with my printing partner to prepare for production.”
Jones informed that between Kickstarter backers and pre-orders, more than 120 books have already been sold.
