Dominicans told to be aware of drinking and sexual behavior during Carnival

A scene from Carnival

Social worker and counselor at the National HIV/AIDS Response Unit Lester Guye has called on citizens to be mindful of their drinking and sexual behavior during the Carnival season.

He stated that the National HIV/AIDS Unit has been advocates on the importance of proper sexual behavior.

“As we have always been saying, we have what you call the ABC’s of minding what you do when it comes to your sexual behavior and we try to discourage people to get involved in drugs and alcohol,” he said.

He stated that it is the norm for persons to consume alcohol during this time of year, however, Guye called on everyone to limit their intake of alcohol in order to make right and informed decisions.

“We know from a general point of view that if you’re someone who is a social drinker, sometimes if you have had a few, sometimes your tongue gets loose and sometimes your actions themselves get a bit loose and that we have to pay close attention to,” he said.

Meantime, he encouraged all to ensure that they are sexually protected during the season.

He said apart from testing the Unit also provides the public with condoms, lubricants and other commodities.

“We also distribute condoms and lubricants and other commodities that can help you to make the right decision,” Guye stated.

He encouraged all to ensure that they carry along condoms, “if you have condoms in your purse or a man is carrying a condom it is better to have one available …”

So what is one supposed to do if they don’t believe in your God?
Mr. Guy is a public official and and such he has to serve the broader public, not foist his beliefs on others.

    • February 15, 2017

In case you have not noticed it is the people who do not believe in our God who are having the problems.

It is not Christians (born again believers) who Mr. Guye finds it necessary to warn.

Yes, Lester Guye is a public servant. As long as the majority of people have not brought their lives under the sovereign rule of Jesus Christ and refuse to walk in the light of His word the island can benefit from his instructions as he addresses the wider audience. But the servants of God can tell you how to escape the shame and consequences of sin if you are willing to listen.

The new birth comes when an individual believes (trusts in and depends upon) the suffering, shed blood, and death of Christ on the cross to put his or her sins away, and surrenders to Him. The Bible says …

*Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.* (2 Corinthians 5:17)

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Revrand everyone had problems. EVERYONE. when it rains it doesnt rain only on one house. How much young christian girls getting pregnant all of a sudden. How much young church going men revel and partake in Carnival and rum and smoke their weed. People like you think that because a man engages in certain activities: smoking marijuana for example, that that person doesnt have God in their live or are not God fearing. People like you are lost in brainwash from yesteryear and insist on forcing your fear and control over people through the use of religion. To you i say take a very long walk off a short pier while kicking rocks. Again when you can actually set foot on Dominican soil for the first time, with proof, then i can accept your nonsense comments. you want to put your opinion in every article like you are an authority on what goes on here, but you cannot even tell me how to get to Whichurch on Old Street without a map. Spirituality over religion everyday.

examine the real culture of carnival celebrations and we will clearly see where the root of the problem originated from.
fact; we were told that carnival were celebration derived from the emancipation of slavery.. the truth is this was lie feed by the church which was one of it programs where it blended paganism with Christianity to get the masses to worship in the church…. carnival started in roman where they pretty much celebrated that time just as we do now, immoral behavior, drunkenness, gluttony, reveling and in those days one could murder some and would not get punished also sexual orgies sometimes children were included…..

the Philippines are the only catholic dominant country where they don’t celebrate carnival…

this is a festive season which is not of god but of the pagan church of rome and you are asking people to stay away from sex?..
the BISHOP said last year its a time to let steam of before lent

  3. Let us be realistic
    February 15, 2017

Rum, near nudity, music, lack of sleep = sex n more careless sex. What do you expect around that time of year. We must be realistic. It is crazy but true. People just get on any how.

    • February 16, 2017

In a sense it is to be expected. People who do not have anything better will pursue the pleasures of carnival. It is because their hearts are empty and they crave anything that will give them a little superficial joy even if it is only for a few days.

The Roman Catholic countries with their form of godliness with all its rituals and ceremonies, but with no assurance of salvation to offer the people, and no born again experience that changes hearts, are big on carnival. The semi-nudity, music and lyrics, alcohol and drugs, and illicit sex fills the void for a few days and leave its casualties.

But the Redeemer stands with outstretched hands offering eternal life to whosoever believeth on Him.
It is all because on the cross He accepted our guilt and died for our sins according to Isaiah 53:5,6. Please read Romans 5:6-9, John 3:16,17, and 36. Now read Ephesians 2:8,9. How can you refuse such an offer and continue to pursue the pleasures of sin :?:

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Well, should the authorities warn its citizens about destructive behavior especially at carnival time? Well it is fair to say yes, even those that carry condoms. We can however, hope that there are mature, responsible people in Dominica that will lead the young. People that understand the outcomes of pain and sufferings, unwanted pregnancies, and death (Sexual Diseases bring death) are not who the messages are targeting but our weak citizens, and our youths. We understand that it is carnival time and experience time and time again is the best excuse to be what we are not. It is however, not a time to quote the bible or a dictionary but to act as sensible people understanding how far to go. So, have a great time and be careful as such times can be unpredictable, dangerous and yes, a time to lose one’s life.

Ignorant people there’s no HIV everything is a hoax money making for big farma. Go do you all research an stop listen to who an cdc….

  6. February 14, 2017

Those who have this experience are changed – yes changed – from the inside out! You will have no more need for carnival. By the way do you not think it is a bit ironic how they talk up the carnival, advertise it, and encourage people to attend, and then warn people against it by telling them of all the dangers involved and how they could be hurt :?:

Let me lead you to Jesus and into the Kingdom of God. I invite you to pray this prayer:

*Oh God, I confess I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. But I believe that your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins on the cross and paid for my salvation. I believe you raised Him from the dead on the third day to show you had accepted that sacrifice on my behalf. Come into my heart Lord Jesus. Come in now. Save me and help me live for you. Amen.*

Why not Skerrit making this announcement? After all, he controls social welfare in Dominica and does not allow anyone to do their job, so why he not taking over today and make this announcement

    • Just Me
      February 14, 2017

Exactly. He and his cabal is responsible for the social ills in Dominica. But hey look out, maybe he might just announce that the condoms etc are funded by the CBI

What are you saying my friend? Thought the message was about rejecting immorality and misconduct instead you are saying you have condoms and lubricant to distribute and everyone should carry one in their purse. How does that allow you to make the right decision? I am just being foolish. Please sir, promote a culture of abstinence

With all due common sense you cannot police sexuality. It’s people’s right to do what they please where this is concerned. So having said that, the wise thing to do is allow for doing it safely. It is not a crime to be promiscuous or foolish in your sex escapades. So distribution of safe sex commodities is very wise.

      February 15, 2017

Don’t be fooled nature always takes it course, I don’t see anything wrong in being protective and carrying condoms.
Some of us too hypocrite especially after we finish throwing children in put latrin long ago we want to talk about young people and what they doing. First as parents let’s educate our kids about sex and the outcome and stop telling them not to play with boys. Mamma and pappa mawhat. All know allu self. Mahaut that have rowrow who make for their sister and aunty husband. BRAVO

Taking into consideration the immoral apparel, abundance of alcohol, and the availability of everything sexual, obviously it is necessary to warn people about the dangers of carnival.

Lester Guye says it is normal to drink and admonishes them to pay attention. That means not to drink too much.

People are expected to violate the Divine moral code so instead of telling them to obey God and keep themselves pure the National HIV/AIDS Response Unit is telling both men and women to bring condoms. How thoughtful of this organization to provide the public with condoms, lubricants, and commodities for those who did not bring their own!

If people were taught to live by the moral code God has given us in the New Testament (Romans 1:26,27)
(1 Corinthians 6:9,10,18), and if they followed it, HIV/AIDS would soon disappear. There would be no more need for Annual AIDS days, parades, or rallies! No more need to raise money for AIDS research, or to build hostels.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald…

The greatest defence against HIV/AIDS is the life transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the good news how that Christ die 8-O d for our sins and rose again. Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 :!: Those who believe this and receive Christ as their Savior according to John 1:12 and Revelation 3:20 are not only forgiven they are delivered and set free from the bondage of sin. This is what it means to be saved.

Those who mock and jeer do so because they enjoy the pleasures of sin NOT for intellectual reasons. But my friend I can assure you those of us who follow Jesus have a better life. It is JOY UNSPEAKABLE, AND FULL OF GLORY :!: I say this after more than 50 years of international ministry and seeing 8-O the power of God save, heal, and deliver men and women in many nations. I invite you to let Him do it for you.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

I agree with you Donald that the greatest defense against HIV/Aids is the life and transforming gospel of Christ. I say amen to that! However, unfortunately you and those that preach the gospel of Skerrit, a gospel based on love of money, a gospel of false prosperity by any means, must never be confused with the true unadulterated gospel of Christ, which denies ALL ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness Rom. 1:18. I have never listened to your sermons but based on the ungodliness of Skerrit that is so rampant, and yet people like you and others are always on this blog justifying Skerrit is clear that you are part of the gang of preachers whose belly is their god.

Christ is the SUN, which dies at night and then RISES in the morning, except when there is an eclipse and it is dark for 3 days until it comes back out in the sky. Sun worshipper. Sin is another name for the MOON. Get a Bible translator.

Rev. I did not enjoy dancing but enjoyed drinking and the social aspect of life. When i went home, high or drunk, i knew i was doing something wrong. i would cry out to God and ask myself; what did i do again? what if i die! I promised myself to stop drinking but failed, just like many other promises which i made to God!
Slowly, i began watching youtube videos and christian music; one led me to another. This one video called placibo (christian) i will never forget that day when the holy spirit won me! Today i am a Christian. Praise God!
It is only now i understand that if you diligently seek him he will become more real to you than life itself! I do not think that any one will ever forget the experience of salvation because it is supernatural and it is a feeling that you will cherish. I now understand how flesh will fail but with our daily bread which is the spirit of God we will endure till the end. It’s not that we do not sin, but we do not want to deliberately sin. When we sin…

        Part 2
when we sin even in our minds, we are convicted by the holy spirit and quickly seek forgiveness because the holy spirit is powerful yet shy. I is so holy that it cannot live where sin is. This is where forgiveness comes in. So we ask for the spirit to continue on with us daily.. and believe me.. i know when he is with me or not. He becomes a passion…Love.. Now i know what David felt when he said “take not the holy spirit from me!” I hate sin! I want everyone to experience what i have felt in the spirit but they must surrender totally. I gave up a lot of things before this happened… even thought that my family would think that i am crazy and leave me.. i was prepared.. but Jesus Christ made them love me even more! Glory to God!
When you give your life to Christ the demons come at you but you are armed with the holy spirit to rebuke and bind them.
I have so much more to say but i can’t now.
thank God for pulling me out of the pit. Praise his name till i die!!!

I am directing this to The Evangelist:

        Thank you for replying.

I do not know how many of my comments you have read. Perhaps in some of them I have not done the best job of explaining myself. I write gospel messages and address moral issues and social problems that exist in my own country as well as Dominica. Some of our Canadian problem are worse than in Dominica.

I try to keep out of politics even at home. But as you know sin, immorality, and destructive habits and lifestyles are so tangled up in politics it is difficult to speak out against these things without some reference to politics when we have politicians promoting them.

I do not condone corruption or unrighteousness of any kind. I want to be a voice in the wilderness. Please forgive me where and when I have failed. When my name is called and I stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ I want to hear the Lord Jesus say *Father, he spoke for us in the evil day.*

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International…

Too many pastors are preaching what people want to hear instead of what they need.

In many places in my country (Canada) the pulpit ministry has degenerated to story telling with a sprinkle of humor. In some cases it has been hijacked and is being used to promote an ideology. Religious leaders have moved out of their calling and have betrayed their office. Some never were genuine. Others have left their high estate. Either way they do not currently speak for God.

We need a revival in the pulpits of the land. God give us pastors anointed to preach the Word and teach holiness without fear and favor. We need preachers who will warn of the dreadful consequences of disobeying God: men who will expose corruption in high places and call a spade a spade.

More than anything else we need a renewal of evangelism: genuine gospel preaching that focuses on the cross, exalts the Blood of Christ, and calls men and woman to faith in the finished work of Calvary.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald…
