The Dominica Electricity Services (DOMLEC), on Thursday, made a donation of $5,000 to the Education Trust Fund.
Public Relations Officer of DOMLEC, Adina Bellot Valentine, presented the cheque to Chairman of the Fund Willie Fevrier at the offices of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development on Cornwall Street.
Bellot-Valentine said DOMLEC’s annual donation to the Education Trust Fund is an indication of the company’s interest in youth development in Dominica.
“We are always happy to present to the Education Trust Fund because we see the Fund as a vehicle through which so many young people can get the opportunity to attend and to remain in secondary school for the five years,” she said.
“We see the importance of education,” Bellot-Valentine stated, adding that DOMLEC hoped to continue making such donations “for many years to come.”
Chairman of the Education Trust Fund Willie Fevrier thanked DOMLEC for the ‘consistent and substantial contributions’ made every year.
“This has enabled us to assist a number of students in the area of textbooks, transportation, CXC fees and registration fees,” Fevrier noted.
The Education Trust Fund was established in 1981 through an act of parliament to assist students experiencing difficulty meeting the costs of attending secondary school.
The Government of Dominica provides a yearly subvention to the Fund.
You make an average of $300 – $500 on every household in Dominica and you give only $5000 to their education. Shameful, but point taken: Don’t let them get smart, keep them ignorant.
I meant $300 – $500 per month average.
$5,000!!! Domlec can do much better than that!
