DOWASCO restores water to 61 percent of customers

People queue for water in Roseau days after Hurricane Maria

General Manager of DOWASCO, Bernard Etinoff, has revealed that the company has restored water to 61 percent of its customers in the wake of the ravages caused by Hurricane Maria.

This means that 14,000 of DOWASCO’s 23,000 customers are now receiving pipe-borne water, he said at the government’s daily press briefing on Monday.

“DOWASACO continues to make tremendous strides in terms of water restoration throughout the island of Dominica,” he stated. “The very last couple weeks we’ve seen a few more areas receiving water such as St. Joseph, Mero and Layou have received water.”

Additionally, he said water has been restored in La Plaine and the Kalinago Territory is now receiving pipe-borne water.

“There have been a number of new areas that have been covered in the last couple weeks we are at the point now where we are at just over 61 percent in terms of coverage island wide which means that about 14,000 of our 23,000 customers are receiving pipe-borne water from DOWASCO,” Etinoff noted.

He pointed out that the company operates 42 water areas and just under 50 percent of those have water restored “but in terms of the population served we are serving well over 14,000 of our 23,000 customers.”

Etinoff said the company continues to truck water to areas where there are challenges in restoring pipe-borne water.

Among them are Giraudel, Eggleston, Morne Rachette, Coulibistrie, Colihaut, Scotts Head and Gallion.

“We continue to truck water to those communities,” he said. “The areas of Scotts Head, Soufriere and Gallion, we continue to truck water daily to these communities as well. We intend to intensify these activities until water can be restored. When I say intensify, we intend to place storage tanks at strategic locations within these communities where there is no water and continue to use trucks to keeps those tanks filled so that persons can go to those tanks and collect water.”

He stated that DOWASCO also operates some small water purification systems in collaboration with international partners, which “is one of the ways that we continue to supply and provide water to residents of Dominica.”

“Through the help of our international partners also we have received a number of small jerry cans, just about two gallons each, and we intend to distribute and we have in fact started to distribute these jerry cans to many of these communities so that persons can have containers now that they can go to these sites and collect water,” he said.

DOWASCO, under the circumstances, you are doing well to restore water, a necessity, to Dominicans. You are to be commended for your effort.
God bless everyone who is trying to restore Dominica to normalcy. I recognize it is not an easy feat.
I remember my mother’s words, “God is good!” Everything will work out in time and with patience.
God bless fellow Dominican residents who have experienced Hurricane Maria and are going through the inconvenience of the aftermath. You can say, what a life! It is testing time also in godliness. Your patience is being tried. Hold on! In time, all will be well.

While Skerrit using Dowasco, Domlec, Independence speech and others to give people the impression that life is slowly getting back to normal in Da, international and regional news agencies are putting out daily realities as to why Skerrit’ was right when he said rebuilding Dominica is going to be had. Here is the Jamaica observer with a bad ball hit for six. http://www.thestkittsnevisobserver.com/local-news/pm-harris-opposition-leaders-dominican-passport-too-serious-to-ignore/

Bye the way why is Skerrit saying nothing about all these dirty laundry that smelling in our face? Why for goodness sake the man not addressing is at all and his attorney fried Tony keeping his mouth short? Where is Tony by the way? He still in Antigua? I passed by his Weston house in FL and saw it locked I. I wonder y he spending so much time in Antigua man. Reminds me of the old Christian song: you keep running running…a fugitive from God.

If Skerrit were being paid for speeches he would no doubt be a billionaire because the man can talk and say what excites people. But action? well I would generously give him an F because his words and actions are very far apart. He reminds me of a local preacher that would sound like thunder when preaching but his adulterous like so contradicted his preaching. But again despite his ungodly life people still followed him to his private church where he cant be disciplined for his ungodly life. I wonder if Skerrit knows that preacher but they are two of a kind for sure. Words without action

@ Pamamla I agree with you that the guy has a very Bad will but it is not fear to blame him for doing what he is instructed to do without blaming those that instructed him. If Blackmore and Skerrit had a problem with that they would either move him or publicly address their concern. But as their boy who is their to do their job, as we have seen previously, for example, the crab boy, just serves as proof that he is under instruction to do their work.
