Public Relations Officer of Dominica Water and Sewerage Company, (DOWASCO), Edward Registe, is appealing to Dominicans to stock up on drinking water as more unstable weather approaches the island.
Registe said the company’s systems, which were affected by the passage of Erika, are still vulnerable and water outages are possible.
“DOWASCO wishes to advise residents to make preparations to store water in the event that Tropical Depression Grace affects the island later this week, since most of the water systems which have been restored in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika remain vulnerable,” he said. “There is a possibility that there could be further water outages if Tropical Depression Grace affects Dominica.”
He said therefore preparations for the storage of water for domestic use should become a priority.
Meantime Registe stated that water treatment plants and tanks are being installed in various parts of the island including Coulibistrie , Giraudel and Eggleston.
He said work on the installation of a temporary water treatment plant, which can treat up to 25,350 gallons of water, at Coulibistrie began on Tuesday. The tank was provided by the Red Cross.
According to him, the plant will serve Coulibistrie and neighbouring communities until pipe-borne water is restored.
Registe further stated that the installation of a number of collapsible water tanks, which were donated by the Japanese government, also commenced on Tuesday.
“The first tanks will be installed in Giraudel and Eggleston,” he stated.
The tank at Giraudel will be installed on top the village council building, while the one in Eggleston will be installed near the Baghdad Junction.
He pointed out that the Japan Official Development Assistance has also made donations of collapsible tanks to Coulibistrie.
“These tanks have a storage capacity of 1,140 gallons each and will store treated water from the temporary treatment plant which have been installed in Coulibistrie,and these tanks have been located at strategic areas in order to ensure that residents in various communities can access water,” Registe stated.
So long we own Dominica don’t u think it is about time we design storage tanks to be operational during hurricanes or floods, where is the innovation?
Does any one know when Salisbury will get Dowasco water back. Some people saying this week some others October month end . more information would be appreciated

Erika has shown that foolish showmanship at the helm of Dominica has sucked the quality of service providers and institutions due lack of finance to upgrade etc…
Dominica seems not able to see anything bigger, the ignorance virus has captivated into the brain cells of many a Dominica thus unable to jump start of even think is the key factor which prevents growth in Dominica.
At a time as this you find it necessary to make such comments. Are you not happy that you were spared that devastating storm? Will you escape this time, if per chance it hit Dominica? I hope not but people as you are ungrateful. Ask yourself, do you deserve the best?
Some people make such negative and derogatory comments. I am wondering what good do they do for Dominica. Since the tropical storm, what good do you plan to do for Dominica? Maybe you should consider it. It will eradicate your crankiness and criticisms.

We often wonder why Dominica is attracting the least in terms of foreign developments but TS Erika has pointed out allot of terrible mistakes by utility companies in terms of their network structure…

upon review DOWASCO should have enough 8-10incs iron pipes stored away knowing it’s the hurricane season and the location of it’s pipe lines in the river beds..

Dominica will “NEVER,NEVER-NEVER” attract high end investors due to the lack luster approach and unprofessional attitudes towards service…we all know we can’t prevent disasters but Companies need to re-think, review and understand firstly their networks and environmental conditions…
