The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica will host the Eleventh Annual Dame Eugenia Charles Memorial Lecture in collaboration with Fort Young Hotel and the Charles Foundation on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Young Hotel Conference Room

This year’s presenter, Dr. Francis O. Severin, will speak on the topic: “Dem belly full, but we hungry: Insights into autocratic rule.”

Dr. Severin is the Director of Open Campus Country Sites at the UWI Open Campus. Through his topic for the lecture, Dr. Severin will draw upon the literature which addresses the “omnipresent” political chasms in former colonial / post-independent societies. He will isolate some of the salient attributes of autocratic rulers, seeking to clarify their deleterious effects on people’s ability to emerge as equal participants in societies.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will provide an opportunity for guests to listen to the speaker present for about 40 minutes.  Following the presentation, guests will be able to interact and to generate meaningful discussions about the influence of the topic on the Caribbean region.

Members of the media are especially invited to attend this lecture.

I love the topic, applicable to Dominicans on going political discourse. So much passport being sold yet we hungry, belly full for some ….empty bellies all over Dominica. Our passport expired….the belly full ones, non expiry passports, all the way to Dubai. The country nice boy.

Severin likes to hear himself talk. Sounds like a political lecture. Might be one sided.

Hi DNO, will this be carried live by the radio stations or even live video by DNO? I would not mind paying for your pay-per-view on important lectures or Presidential or Prime Ministerial speeches. Interested persons in the diaspora may also be inclined to such opportunity.
