Dr. McIntyre sympathizes with Giraudel/Eggleston residents on road condition

A section of the Eggleston Road

Public Works Minister, Dr. Colin McIntyre, has said he sympathizes with the residents of Giraudel/Eggleston on the condition of the road leading to the villages.

He said that $6-million have been approved for repairing the road but more is going to be needed.

“I want to say to the people of Giraudel, Eggleston and all the road users in that area, I sympathize with them for what they are going through honestly, because I mean, it is a bit hard for them but we are aware that,” he said during a tour of ongoing road work sites on Wednesday. “But there is so much to do in Dominica but we have decided to put all our emphasis on this road right now to create the ease.”

He stated that the people have been very patient, saying he commended them for that.

“But we are committed to this project,” Dr. McIntyre said.

He said the road is “tired” and “old” and $6-million have been approved for the road project but “it is obvious” more will be needed.

Additionally, he said three contractors have been secured for various aspects of the project and they have been urged to speed up the process “so that we can move on to other aspects and phases of this road development…”

Meanwhile, he said drainage is going to be important in the area.

“I was speaking to my technical staff and they have advised me that incrementally we have to tackle this road from the point that if we allow it to continue without the proper drainage we will have more and more edge failures taking place…” Dr. McIntyre noted.

Keep sympathizing and keep spending tax payers money on foreign artists for “Thanksgiving”. The money paid to Sinach could have been allocated to roads, the hospital and many over critical areas. The government’s priorities are sick and twisted but the people continue to allow it.

now alone you want to sympathize? The road was like this before maria. People, do not let these politicians fool you. the road works they trying to do fast fast fast there could have been done long ago, and in a better manner. Dont tell them nothing, let them do their mediocre work. A perfect example of mediocrity is that new gardens road. No sidewalk, no lane for parking, no drainage. Just 2 elevated strips of concrete that can barely hold two normal sized vehicles. Sympathize still. I hope the people of Giraudel not even checking for you. Whats worse is up that road Blackmore living.

I would honestly like that you save the comments about Dominica has a lot of work to be done Sir. Our roads have been in a deplorable state yearsssss (10+) Long before Maria. The new storms and hurricanes just make everything worse. The pictures posted do not even show the true picture. The road is beyond bad. Then, they are working on the fortune wall. We have a bypass via castle comfort which is filled with craters. If you are concerned about your fellow countrymen’s safety, financial stability (cause we spending endlessly on autoparts), Do something! Now…not tomorrow. We do not want talk. We need action. I continue to be very concerned and pray for safety daily.

Colin, you and your failed Labour government and failed inept Skerrit has abandoned we the people of Giraudel, Cochrane, Ford Cani etc and engaged in self gratitude’s only seemingly promoting yourselves with absolutely nothing to show of it. The roads and infrastructure has depleted badly to suicidal fear walking or driving on these roads ignored, abandoned roads now for over 18 years. I was in that constituency myself to see openly the neglect, poor representation and bobol interference of this corrupt government month after month and year after year Skerrit and his bandwagon making promises always on the eve of birthday or New year. This is a fraud and buying emoty, corrupt loyalty. These Labour government are deluded, spiteful in their operations and behaviour and their actions are deliberate with the sitting parl. Rep doing nothing to represent us. This has been a bastardly act over the past 18 years.
We want faild Sjkerrit and his corrupt Labour Bobol government out of office…

“Public Works Minister, Dr. Colin McIntyre, has said he sympathizes with the residents of Giraudel/Eggleston on the condition of the road leading to the villages.” This nonsense I am reading is typical of the regime of this failed Skerrit`s Labour corrupt government. These people sit about and expect accolades from Dominica not realising that it has to earned. Now, why all of a sudden is Collin McIntyre apologising to the people of Eggleston and Giraudel? It is because he has become vulnerable and scared that Hon Ronald Charles, an exceptionally good man and well poised MP for the Giraudel Egleston area has made in roads in this constituency and al the records show that Colin will lose his seat (Damn he must Go) and Hon Charles will be the reputable MP for the Valley. He has earned it, the Labour Party has abandoned our Valley and it is time for them to go. Hon Charles has build up a very youthful and elderly team who are embedded in villages and has raise his chances very high to…

Labour, nothing lasts forever. The only thing that does not change is change itself. The only reason that the DLP is presently in power is due strictly to the machinations that take place at the electoral office and the barefaced bribery of the overseas voters in the form a free plane ride. The present system, as it stands, is the antithesis of true democracy. What the country is right now experiencing is quasi autocracy.

The question is when are they going to start

Every community needs properly constructed roads and drainage systems. This road seems as though someone just poured poor quality asphalt on a meandering dirt tract. It is vividly apparent that this current ruling regime regards the lives of some Dominicans to be inconsequential. The people deserve much better than this. No group of Dominicans should be condemned to a life of perpetual misery and insufferable hardship. This is what the willfulness and the gross inadequacies of this current regime is doing to too many. It’s time for them to vacate office.

I am a laborite but I am very disappointed with my government I voted and next time around I will definitely not vote them. I will give Linton a chance, though I don’t like his arrogance. The state of the road is a picture of the state of Dominica and it’s time for us to try another government.
DNO I have been reading blogs on this site and we must learn to disagree with others but let’s respect them. I find we taking things too personal and we too like to call others derogatory names when they make their point. We need to grow up man because even on the radio and talk show you hearing the same disrespect for others. I was listening to a sports program on Q95 tonight and I was shocked by the way the host treated a caller who was wrong and the former judge was right; but did it call for all that Mr. Judge? Couldn’t you just tell the caller to get his facts right and call back next time? I have heard that same caller make significant points before. We need to respect one another

The state of roads in Dominica is at its worst ever, while we continue to look for areas for Dominica Strong to waste time making millions and millions of our Dollars with a five year contract. Shame on this Government.

  13. October 11, 2018

I give thanks to God that very little or almost no accident happens on our roads. The people of Giraudel and Egliston have earned the blessings of God, may He continue to guide us safely, as we go our daily route

Imagine that the residents had to shame the government in order to bring attention to a life threatening situation with the decapitating roads. For failing the people so miserably, the people should administer corporal punishment to each the Minister of Government with their votes.

These guys are too wicked man! I hope the people of the area are taking note of the number of years they have been ignored just to remembered in front of an election. We were fooled once, now it is time to put the shame in Colin’s pot , let him eat that.
I will never vote for your DLP again.

We the people of Eggleston and Roseau south in general have been neglected and treated very badly by this government. Mr McIntyre we are waiting for election day, we will teach you all a lesson on what neglect does to you.

“…my technical staff…have advised me that…without proper drainage we will have more and more edge failures…”

    But when will we learn!

Indiscriminate cutting and clearing of land is one of the root causes of instability. Even when nature has provided her own remedy – as at Antrim – it was screwed up by blocking the deep underground water courses with the dumping of millions of tons of spoil from Red Gully.

So the Public Works Minister sympathises with the residents of Giraudel and Eggleston but sympathy
does not repair the roads to the villages. This government has received millions of dollars to repair the infrastructure
within Dominica but the question I ask is where is it all going. Sadly Giraudel and Eggleston belongs to the blue side so
money is not as forthcoming as in red areas.
Maria affected all the people of Dominica and political bias should not affect the rebuilding of the infrastructure.
