DSS donates to Roving Care

PRESS RELEASE: The Dominica Social Security has made a financial contribution to the Roving Caregivers Programme (RCP) in early February 2010 as part of activities to mark its 34th anniversary.

(RCP) through its implementing agency ChildFund Caribbean therefore extends sincere gratitude to Social Security for this very generous donation.

This financial contribution to RCP is in keeping with the Social Security’s objective in assisting civil society organizations to enhance their programmes as well as being true to their responsibility as a corporate institution/partner in community /national development.

The Roving Caregivers Programme is an informal early childhood education programme that seeks to reach children birth to three years of age who do not have access to any formal early childhood education. Early stimulation, parenting education and support for parents form the core of the programme.

This timely contribution from Social Security will enable the RCP in its mission at strengthening the care and protective environment for young children as well as enhancing parenting skills in these RCP communities.

The Roving Caregivers Programme is exclusively maintained by Grant Funding mainly through the Bernard Van leer Foundation, Government of Dominica, UNICEF, The National Bank of Dominica, with other contributions from Gifts of Love & Hope, Ross University, Optical Services and Rotary Club among others.

The RCP is indeed very grateful to be a recipient of this financial contribution from the Dominica Social Security and looks forward to a long and fruitful relationship between the two organizations.

Wonderful news!! A step taken by the DSS in the right direction. Studies have revealed that investing in early childhood development programmes like the RCP, boast some of the highest rates of return on investment and the early years are the most cost effective period to invest in a child’s life. Early interventions guarantee a competitive and productive workforce to meet the challenges of a constantly changing workforce! Congratulations to both the DSS and the RCP Dominica for forging this relationship that will undoubtedly contribute to the continuous provision of quality ECD programmes (like RCP) and the socio-economic development of communities in Dominica!
