John Ashe, a former United Nations General Assembly president accused by U.S. prosecutors of taking $1.3 million in bribes from Chinese businessmen, has died at age 61, his lawyer said on Wednesday.
The death of Ashe, a former U.N. ambassador from Antigua and Barbuda who served as General Assembly president from 2013 to 2014 and was arrested in October on federal charges, was confirmed by his lawyer, Jeremy Schneider.
Mogens Lykketoft, the current president of the 193-member General Assembly, said Ashe had died of a heart attack.
Ashe’s death marked a surprising turn in the corruption investigation, in which seven people have been charged to date. He had been in plea talks as recently as last month as prosecutors considered further charges.
What shall it profit a man to gain the world and loose his soul…
was he one of them cutting that cake am not sure just asking?
Everyone must say, “There but for the grace of God go I.”
Consider, he probably did not think he would have been caught and arrested. It was a shock to him and his life turned to unhappiness and worries. The pressure of it all and considering the Court cases could have brought on the heart attack.
He lost his pride, his future plans, etc., and at his age there appeared to be no hope for him. He could have wished himself dead to avoid further embarrassment and debasement.
I hope his death was a natural one.
We still must say, “May his soul rest in peace.” Amen!
God is the judge!
Proverbs chapter 15 and verse 3 clearly states and I quote “the EYES OF THE LORD ARE IN EVERY PLACE BEHOLDING THE EVIL AND THE GOOD!!!
The man is dead let him rest. We don;t know what is behind door waiting in life your never know.
Take Note! Prepare for eternity. Death writes letters and mail them everyday to folks from all walks of life. The question here is, have we settled our account with Jesus so we can exit this life to eternity with Christ? Life is this huge concert where we are put on stage to act out our purpose. Fundamental to that purpose is the fact that Christ died to redeem us from every sin that plagues our life while on stage, and we must ask him to forgive us, come into our lives and save us. Once the curtain is closed and the act is over – JUDGEMENT.
PREPARE TO MEET THY GOD TODAY!
Nothing that can be said about that man, the money that he saved, his homes and cars and all other possessions will make a difference right now, and none of us know where he will spend his eternity. However those of us who have warm blood running through our veins have a shot at eternity with Christ.
The other option is one in which it would have been better if we were never born.
Mortals have weaknesses of every/different sort. No one is perfect. It includes everyone as yourself who comment on this Website.
St. Vincent de Paul who helped the poor said: “Be kind, be kind and you will be a saint.”
Who knows, maybe this man may have done some good in his life. No one lives without having done some good.
God is the judge. He weighs the good and the bad. If the good outweigh the bad, God will save him. If the bad, we know where his soul will end up. We know not what transpired between him and God while he was making the transition from life to death. We cannot say where his soul is. Only God and him, his soul knows.
While incarcerated, he may have asked God forgiveness, even as he was dying. I hope God forgave him. RIP.
Religion, things it can do to the mind of a person.
Hmmmmmmm . Silence is golden and MUST be achieved by any means necessary. My BIG question is; Was the said heart attack induced? And if so by what means ? Warning to the rest of the accused and suspects, the HKong Mafia never sleeps. When you dance with the devil be prepared to sleep eternally if things go wrong.
Always Assertive!
It is appropriately called a “dance macabre”.
To: Shameless.
Hello and good evening my people. First I want to offer my condolence To the Ashe family on their lost. I was also wandering if his heart attack was induced because we know certain country is trying to take over our game of football which they call soccer. I hope our people keep their eyes open.
A heart attack hardly ever give a warning.

Of course he died, now the others can sleep easy and don’t have to worry about being prosecuted. Remember over the summer solstice, when this 27 yr old actor’s car ran him over after he pulled up in his driveway?
What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and looses his soul?
We should all ask ourselves this question.
There are lots of souls losers all over the world many times its right underneath our beds and caught in other people business
“Lose” not “loose” his own soul. Tonnerre.
Hmmmm….
Ah, some people’s stomachs must getting queezy, not knowing what depositions Mr. Ashe may have made. It would be enough to give one a heart attack if one harbours guilt. We all have to live with our consciences and ultimately only face ouselves in the mirror.
Agreed!
The operative word is “if”. A word we must all put in our decision making about other people because if it turns out to be other wise we may have destroyed someone’s reputation and probably their life and that of their family.
More importantly, that angel of death is not selective, it touches people of all walks of life and in all situations that’s why we have to be so careful.
I’ve seen enough movies to know what went down.
Idiot, you may have seen the movies but you have not taken the smell of the scene. Believe me that is not pleasant garcon.
crazy times we’re living in. There has been some suspicious deaths in the last few years. What is really happening, we have to begin to ask ourselves questions about our own lives. Crazy things are beginning to happen, be it natural death or otherwise we need to question ourselves.
Sudden deaths happen everyday when our makers is ready for us we don’t know when where and how. Take note when people desperately want things and it doesn’t happen their life ends with sudden death
