Fifty-nine sign up to NEP in Soufriere

nep soufriere

Fifty-nine people from the community of Soufriere on Wednesday signed contracts to join the National Employment Programme (NEP).

A brief release from the Office of the Prime Minister said this follows an appeal made by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit during a visit to the community last week, to those persons from the area desirous to receive paid training to enroll with the NEP.

Do Good or bad people talk. It may be no coincident that Skeritt has been focusing on the community of Soufriere in light of recent events but what he may have intended for one purpose can be used for completely different purpose by those involved. NEP is not the best way to move a country forward but at least it provides income to those involved. The last time I checked there was not an abundance of available job in D/ca and yet still some comments indicates that the would have prefer many to stay unemployed as oppose to taking up what the NEP offers, though temporary in nature goes a long way; but then again “who feels it knows it!” Should the government do more? Yes is the NEP a hand out? NO! People work for pay ” I see them under the hot sun cleaning the road, working harder than many of us with better jobs” Why? I will not disrespect those people by calling them lazy, beggars or rats like some of you have already commented. You are disrespectful and rude for such comments.

Frankly speaking here’s the fundamental reason why D/ca’s economy is in the doldrums.

PM Skerrit’s only idea of how to create economic wealth for the people of D/ca is to play politics. A by-election is looming, so to secure the Soufriere constituency let me execute physiological blackmail. He gives the constituency $597,000 towards housing assistance, announcement of Jungle Bay Resort relocation to Soufriere, forces Ian Pinard into resignation and now offering NEP hand-outs. Please tell me someone… how does that improve the economic well-being of villagers or their standard of living based on how well they are doing financially. PM Skerrit or the DLP administration has done nothing productive for Soufriere/Scott’s Head/Galion – a testimony to this is the deplorable condition the Soufriere-Galion-Galion-Soufriere road is in. The government must measure the Parish’s economic well-being to determine how the villagers are faring, as it is integral in a person’s well-being.

LOL @ Face the Facts…a true Labourite Loyalist who would defend his/her Supreme Leader if he decided to burn the entire Country down to the ground. Face the Facts you are indeed a loyal subject of your Supreme Leader, Master, Emperor and King! I guess you will be awaiting your free ticket to come down and vote for more hardship on the backs of poor Dominicans here at home while you return to Canada to enjoy the fruits of a true and working Democracy! Yet, you continuously denounce Dominicans who speak against the ills of this Administration as wicked and unpatriotic. How ironic!

Is it not sad that you have nothing good to state about your fellow Dominicans; nothing concrete and encouraging? You must be a miserable person who lack many godly traits and need to cultivate them to grow in love for your fellow people. Otherwise, figure out where you will end up.

Skerrit is conning the young people for votes. A few years ago, several young persons were invited to a training programme in the north (I believe it was held in Portsmouth). They were told they were being trained for employment at the Morocco hotel. Up to now, approaching five years later, there’s no Morocco hotel. Not even Supremo Skerrit knows when the hotel will open.

  22. Not a herd follower
    May 4, 2016

Skerrit’s primary objective in politics and in government is to remain in power. As simple as that. So, he will use the State resources to do just that, including conning the young people.. to hell with medium and long term planning for the sustainable development of the country. to hell with doubling or tripling the budgets for tourism or agriculture and agro-processing. to hell with proper budgeting. Everything must pale in significance to his only true objective in life, taking care of Skerrit’s personal ambitions. We have a bunch of inept ministers and a pathetic electorate acquiescing to this man’s fancies. I sometimes wonder if Dominica is not becoming like North Korea with its Supreme Leader.

Absolutely nothing! This is just another Red Clinic with a different name. It is designed to give some Dominicans some peanuts for a short time in exchange for votes. That’s all it is, nothing more and nothing less. But Skerrit can sell people like you anything and you shout ‘hail Cesar’.

Why only now all these activities taking place in the Soufiere Constituency and Roseau South?. One thing for sure Skerrit know how the fool, bribe and play his election gimmicks on the foolish Dummicans. Corn cornay under the Patronage of the Honorable Ian Pinard, the man cried and drank water like an elephant saying because of health issue etc he resigned, yet at the same time saying that he will be his replacement campaign manager, only in Dominica politicians can continue fooling the fools, taking them for rides, making them poorer and poorer whereas them politicians are becoming richer and richer, people need real jobs, full time jobs, sustainable jobs,to take care of themselves and to be self reliable not jobs/employment for a few months before election/bi-election, then after the election they back to zero again. For the love of country and our future generatio I do hope that the people do what is right, take all that Pinard, Denish, Skerrit and the others are dishing out

Is their a law punishing politicians who give favors for votes. The NEP has been around for over a year. Recently, Skeritt was boasting how good the program was, in terms of helping young people in particular. In fact, he told us approximately twelve hundred young people were involved in the program. At the eve of a bye election in Soufriere, the man is now remembering the young people of the constituency. You are asking them to sign up for the NEP program, is it just coincidence or you want to secure the Soufriere seat. According to brother Copiel, take their money, take their jobs, eat them, take everything they want to give you, it is your mother and father’s tax money, but don’t vote for them.
