Fine Foods Inc, franchise holder for the KFC and Pizza Hut Delivery brands in Dominica, has joined the World Hunger Relief effort initiated by franchisor YUM! Brands- With the local fundraising campaign set to run for the month of October and with 70% of the money raised benefiting local organizations Grotto Home and the Infirmary.
The annual World Hunger Relief campaign of YUM! Brands is the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort to raise awareness, volunteerism and funds to benefit the United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies. KFC and Pizza HUT Delivery are among five of YUM! Franchised Restaurants worldwide, which participate in the World Hunger Relief project.
Since the project was launched in 2007, more than one million YUM! Employees, franchisees and their families have volunteered more than nine million hours to aid hunger relief efforts in communities worldwide. The effort has raised US$36 million for the WFP and other hunger relief organizations and is helping to provide approximately 160 million meals and save the lives of about 4 million people in remote corners of the world where hunger is most prevalent.
KFC own efforts toward hunger relief have been ongoing for most of its 5 years under Fine Foods Inc. This includes providing sustained feeding support to the Good Will Primary School Feeding program. KFC has also included support for community interests who regularly solicit assistance for meals for their fundraising efforts and community projects.
At yesterday’s (October 20th) announcement, Fine Foods Inc/KFC Marketing Manger Juliet Martin expressed gratification that YUM! has agreed for Fine Foods Inc/KFC Dominica to retain 70% of what is collected through the campaign, so that assistance could be provided for hunger relief projects in Dominica. Every person in Dominica can also make a contribution in the fight against hunger by visiting their local KFC and Pizza Hut Delivery restaurants, and making a cash donation during the month of October.
In addition Fine Foods Inc will donate a sizable food hamper to 9 different organizations in Dominica who daily feed the less fortunate in our society. These organisations are: Grotto,\ Infirmary, Chances, Operation Youth Quake, House of Hope, Home for the Aging Portsmouth, Home for the Aging Mahaut, Alpha Centre, Goodwill Primary School’s Feed Program. Dominica’s own hunger issues have also been increasing in the current challenging economic climate.
