Flash flood watch for Dominica; residents urged to be alert

Map of present conditions

The Dominica Meteorological Office has extended a flash flood watch and is warning the public, especially residents in areas prone to flooding and landslide, to remain alert as increased moisture levels and a low level trough  continue to produce some unsettled weather over Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean.

Over the next 24 to 48 hours generally cloudy to overcast skies, scattered showers, periods of rain and possible isolated thunderstorms can be expected across the Dominica. Some of these showers may be heavy at times.

A flash flood Watch is extended until Tuesday November 29th. Motorist and pedestrians should exercise caution; look out for falling rocks and waterlogged roads.

Sea conditions are expected to be slightly above normal mainly along the eastern coast. Small craft operators and sea bathers should continue to exercise caution, the Met Office said.

On September 28 heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Ophelia flooded several sections of the island, especially on the west coast.

It appears that the entire world is affected by rain and flooding.
During the month of October Toronto had its share of rain and high winds, much more than we ever had to the point of flooding. The balconies of some people who reside in apartment dwellings were flooded with water. This is something which never previously occurred. This month it has rained with mild weather.
On Sunday it rained all day with high winds until last night. I tend to call Toronto “windy Chicago”. Strange, for November, the weather is mild and no snow yet. I do not wish for the worst for I am enjoying this mild weather. The weather pattern has changed throughout the world.
Take heart fellow Dominicans. Pray! I pray and hope that there will be no more flooding in DA. May God put a hand. God bless and assist you!

flash flood warining at 10:45am on monday morning. Shouldn’t that have come at least a day before? We need to be a little more proactive in this country. If I had receive this warining before I could probably have saved some of my assets, secure them better.
