Former PM calls on leader to “pay attention” to what is going on in Dominica

James has thrown out a challenge to leaders in Dominica

Former Prime Minister and former MP for the Marigot Constituency, Edison James, is calling on leaders in Dominica to pay attention to what is happening in the country.

He was addressing UWP supporters at an all-night candlelight vigil recently held on the Melville Hall main road as the controversy over the temporary closure of the hospital continues.

The hospital was shut down due to an infestation of mold and fungus.

“The leaders of this country, whether you are a Bishop, whether you are a Priest, whether you are a Minister, whether you are a Pastor, whether you are Evangelical, pay attention to what is happening,” James urged. “You cannot stay silent when the people of this country are being subjected to what they are being subjected to.”

James and the United Workers Party (UWP) are demanding a medical facility which he believes should be located at Marigot.

Meanwhile; Parliamentary Representative for the Salisbury Constituency, Hector John has called for greater respect for the police.

“I have no problem with the police, the police officers have to do their work…the police force overall, they are here to protect and serve and we have to respect them, but we also want them to respect us in return,” he remarked. “Allow us to do what we have to do within the constitution, do not disrespect. Allow us to express ourselves. Brothers and sisters, do not throw yourself under the bus, take a ride on the bus. Dominica is yours, take a ride on Dominica, do not let people push you and disrespect you.”

He said the vigil was held not to wage war.

“I want the people of Marigot to understand, the people of Dominica we are not here for war, but we are here to stand up for what we believe in,” he stated.

John made it clear to his “Labour friends” that he does not hate them, “but we need each other and the time is now…”

“I want us to begin to understand that what is going on in Marigot tonight is not about Marigot alone, it’s about each and every one of us and why we should stand fight, why we should stand and speak our minds, why we should stand and challenge the authorities, why we should stand and ensure that we get what we want,” he noted.

On Friday, June 10th Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Helen Royer revealed at a press conference that two buildings have been identified for the temporary relocation of the Marigot Hospital.

She said work will begin as soon as possible and relocation will not exceed more than three months.

Furthermore, Royer said the situation is considered as a priority to the Ministry of Health in the wake of the closure.

Never mind the Messenger, it is the MESSAGE! that is pertinent! we totally dismiss what He just said simply because He said it and not someone else. What he said is truth and right. Our leaders must take note and act on what is happening instead of passing blame and turning blind eyes. sweeping dirt under the rug doesnt get rid of dirt.

    • It is human nature to look at the speakers or the actors and judge by do we like them or not rather than objectively evaluating what was said or done.

This is immaturity. Political parties do it. They elect a person to be their party leader who has personality plus eloquence  with little consideration  for character, morals, and values. Voters who are not well grounded are swept off their feet. In some cases they find themselves in a dictatorship  in a few years.

Genuine Christians with discernment will judge all things by the Word of God  . Evaluate what was said and done and judge what is being proposed by God’s will as He has revealed it in the Holy Scriptures.

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

Laugh, mock and scorn but when allu and allu family members will be in need of a hospital close to the airport close when IT happens allu will know who is the cry baby.

These are serious matters. Why is government spending millions of dollars to rehabilitate the airport and implement night landing and a hospital in close proximity to the airport is being closed down rather than being upgraded in order to facilitate a rapid response to any emergency?

Laugh baby laugh but when IT happens to prove the error of this government’s ways no one will be laughing then!!!!!!

A peoples party, that cannot connect with people? That is why they were rejected after 4 and 1/2 years. After 4 and 1/2 years the uwp left behind a broken economy. The people dicided that they did not do well.

Did you notice the picture of the hospital, built over the ground, actually on the ground?. It appears to be poor construction work which could be called shoddy work..
Is it any wonder it developed molds, etc.? Too close to the ground. Water and moisture crept in and damaged the foundation which may not have been properly constructed and treated for the type of weather in Dominica especially after TS Erika.

We would have been further in our development. There is no way anyone can compare or even put Skerrit dirty red shoes to that of the leadership, education, intelligence of Hon James. What has Skerrit got to show? A silly, questionable doctored rate for far east India. Why didn`t Skerrit work to earn a reputable doctorate right here at UWI
Hon James served only 4years and created the successful World Creole Music Festival. Skerrit is in there over ten rotten years, what have we got to prove or show for this.? Nothing, absolutely nothing.

donate one of your property in the interim, whilst the Government seek funding for such an important project of the hospital. You are all unreasonable and makes everything political. Causing more hatred and confusion in this beautiful country of ours. Where is the love of Christ in us? Making a mountain out of a mole hill is not going to benefit any one of us. Stop this and join like grown men in assisting in the challenging situations. The supporters whom at every moment, you keep turning against the government at every opportunity, will do the same to you when and if you do come into power. You know very well that running a country which depends upon taxes and grants, donations is not easy. So desist from this kind of attitude and call on your supporters to pray for the Leaders, including yourselves for prosperity for our nation. That in it self, will make your job easier if and when you come. Remember Mr James, Lennox & others that money is not like shaking a tree here.

I take this from the news above “On Friday, June 10th Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Helen Royer revealed at a press conference that two buildings have been identified for the temporary relocation of the Marigot Hospital.
She said work will begin as soon as possible and relocation will not exceed more than three months.
Furthermore, Royer said the situation is considered as a priority to the Ministry of Health in the wake of the closure.” This speaks volumes and the hospital was closed because of molds, mildew which can make persons more sick than they are.
Let us be realistic Mr James and members of the UWP, what was the reason of the vigil? No one has ever said that the matter of a Marigot Hospital is not necessary and urgent. It is high time that you stop instigating persons to be unreasonable, hyper, vexed on every little thing which can be solved by consultation. Even before all those demonstrations, talking can join in solving problems. Maybe one of you…

Some of these comments are laughable? You all need to stop put politics in every damn thing. The hospital was in good condition during James’ reign as leader. During the past few years the condition has deteriorated. Isn’t it the business of the present leader to see that it is renewed? Isn’t the people of Marigot and environs underneath his care? Isn’t this part of he being a leader….to make his citizens feel comfortable and cared for? Remember this hospital is not only for the people of Marigot but the entire country. Forreal you do not know the history of health care. Ma Charles established Primary Health Care in Dominica which was the best in the Caribbean. Health centres with Doctors, Nurses of all categories, pharmacists EHO,Health Team vehicles with drivers. Marigot had a well furnished Hospital and Health Centre. So Mr James met this in place so he did not have to do as you say. Marigot citizens know what they are talking about. The place was not maintained for the pass 16 years, thats the problem. The Government just have to review plans and put a proper Health facility to serve the people of Marigot and Airport which is Dominica on a whole.

It will be very difficult for the new generation leaders to pay attention in term of the many serious problems facing Dominica, whether is it corruption, child abuse, or obeying the laws of Dominica. Many of our leaders are politically tainted. Many of our leaders, especially those who are living the better lives don’t believe whatever is affecting the underprivileged people are their concerns. Many leaders believe Skeritt is the best thing that has happened to Dominica since Mr. Oliver Leblanc and by holding on to his coat tail their will be no end to their achievements. Leadership is everybody’s business, we hear most of the times, if so, why don’t as many Dominicans as possible take a leadership position and come together for the betterment of the country. In so doing, might cause us to pay more attention in terms of what is happening around us. Our leaders expect Linton, Blessings, Angello, to pay attention to what is going on, on their behalf.

@forreal He Edison James, has nothing to say about that.He started work during the 41/2 yrs in office on an international airport, that would have been in full operation today. This is in addition to a myriad of other things which were accomplished during his term as PM.But a rogue regime for 17 years has made it sure that we do not even have an economy in 2016.Honourable James at the time was the leader of a party that was far superior, honest and above board, when compared to the cesspit of corruption that we have today…When one administration replaces another,we expect better from the administration, except you,but Dominica has gone backwards 17 years…We are the laughingstock of the Caribbean…Is Skerrit a leader?Really? You believe that we are sinking? I can tell you that we have already been sunk by these evil leaders.

% You are the laughing stock ,let me explain to you when the US was about to build an international airport for Dominica Edison James told the Americans we in Dominica do not need an international airport now so you shut your crap now.

I heard that James opposed the international airport and informed the US that Dominica did not need one.
In this regard, James has done a great disservice to Dominicans. So I hope that the PM will never be blamed for that.
If James did not prove to be a traitor then, Dominica would have had an international airport. May they get on James’ back; not the PM’s back

Stop looking back , regression is bad . Progress will never show its face in the nation if You all always look back . Progress means to go forward . Stop speaking negatively in the land for it will only breed curses and failure . This is a prophetic message given to me to relay to my people . IF ,MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALEED BY MY NAME SHALL HUMBLE THEMSELVES, PRAY AND SEEK MY FACE AND TURN AWAY FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS THEN I WILL HEAR FROM NEAVEN AND I WILL FORGIVE THEIR SIN AND I WILL HEALTHEIR LAND ” 2 Chronicles 7: 14.

Preacher dont be so blind, the hospital has deteriorated to the point of closure over the last sixteen years. Mr.james kept the hospital with staffing and supplies within a satisfactory standard with an economy that was on the verge of rebounding and was very transparent.I know because i served in the health system under the DFP, AND UWP .CHANGE YOUR NAME FROM PREACHER TO PROPAGATOR.

Bad enough, look at how it was constructed, right on the ground. It does not look as though it has concrete around it. Where did all the water go when the rain fell, with that amount of rain through the years?

Get your history correct, forreal. No.1. it was in the making and No.2, recall they only served 4years and were kicked out by the Labour and Freedom parties who ran country and as an alliance. Also recall Hon. Edison James served as Prime Minister not for Marigot but for all of Dominica, including you, if you are for real.

At one time you were PM of our nation, why didn’t you rebuild the facility? You did not do crap, what do you want now? You were the worst disaster that ever happened to Dominica. As stated, James and the (UWP) are demanding a medical facility which he believes should be located at Marigot. Your belief is irrelevant! What did PM. Douglas demand of you? Is that the way you intend to attract people? So rude, arrogant, boisterous and pompous. We deserve much better than your baseless rhetoric. During your reign as PM civil servants were not paid, I am one of those who left DA before the IOU fiasco. Did you copy the candle light vigil from UWP, in St. Lucia? The PM of St. Lucia gave a speech LL didn’t change a word, now a candle light vigil, you are doing the same. We are prayer worriers, your coco Markack failed again, Laplain, Delices, Colihaut, Belles need one too! Please Mr. PM hurry build the PSYCHO Unit in Marigot, WHY? They need it! Give the STL, PM credit for using his ideas.

I will inform you, their vigil and prayers will not help. In order for God to answer their prayers, they must pray with a humble and contrite heart, devoid of hatred. This is all I see in UWP commencing with the leader and supporters. How can God answer their prayers? They are wasting time.
The Holy Bible guides and directs us how to conduct ourselves, in words and action at all times with no exception. These UWP and their supporters have much to learn, love for one another and about genuine Christianity. They cannot deceive God. They are the ones to change.

Edison, we do not need you, we do not want to hear you, you are just a wicked man. You were prime minister, pal Rep and you never even go in the hospital, if it was not the Goverment that say the building is not fit to serve people you would not know it has problem and you there running your mouth, man shot up.

A storm in a teapot. Making a mountain out of a molehill and blowing this matter out of proportion.
The PM and his government said what will be done. Give them an opportunity.and get off his back! You are only stirring up trouble in D/ca. In any case, you are no longer the PM and not even a minister. Some of you act as if you are the government. Well, you are not! Let the PM govern. He was elected to do so.
The place to debate this matter is in Parliament and at private meetings. You contribute to division and disunity.
Go and pray for D/ca, for the PM, his ministers and nationals. Ask God to also mellow your heart, you and Linton, that all criticisms and hatred will be eradicated from your heart, mind and mouth. Be a good example and your supporters will follow.
God knows you and others have a lot of fervent praying to do. Enough criticisms and more reverence to God and prayer. The Lord will be pleased with your mortal and spiritual efforts.

  25. “I want us to begin to understand that what is going on in Marigot tonight is not about Marigot alone, it’s about each and every one of us and why we should stand fight, why we should stand and speak our minds, why we should stand and challenge the authorities, why we should stand and ensure that we get what we want,” he noted.–News Article

And why does it seem so much that \”we\” in question is only UWP and its supporters, who continue to be a mere minority in Dominica. Who is the \”we\” to challenge the authorities, when the authorities have a wide majority on its side?

I will never understand what is it with you people; to be making a pack of senseless noise, because a place that a danger to people\’s health was closed–this is too much stupidity as far as I can perceive

Beautiful scene.Good attendance..Every speaker spoke well…We need several of these in Roseau,to DEMAND electoral reform…Dominica is probably the last remaining state in the Commonwealth where its citizens vote without a viter ID Card…There should be no more election in Dominica without Electoral Reform….This should be the main focus if the UWP from now on………Imagine how soundly this Evil and corrupt gang which goes by the name DLP would have been defeated in 2014 had it not been for imported voters…THE CANDLE HAS TO BE KEPT BURNING!!!

stayed up listening whilst that is a decent move, there must be follow ups..

honestly i don’t see any change coming to dominica…the citizens lack the will power to demand and enforce change actions, just look at the 18Mil Bridge..a set of talk, talk and more talk and nothing to show.

dominicans are weak docile lack luster type minded citizens and the facts are there to see….dominica is crowned the poorest and slowest island in the eastern caribbean, their public servants don’t want any raise of salaries, as they’re extremely proud of having little whilst passport selling agents are gaining…..
