French naval vessel to conduct beaching exercise

The Batral Dumont d'Urville beaching

The French Navy vessel “Batral Dumont d’Urville” is at Woodbridge port since Friday February 10th.

This call was organized by the Lieutenant-colonel Hervé de Solages, Head of International affairs office, Non resident Defense attaché in Fort de France – Martinique, in collaboration with the French Honorary consulate in Dominica, under the supervision of the French Embassy for the OECS states located in St Lucia.

This is a courtesy call during which the French Navy will demonstrate the capabilities of its amphibious vessel “Dumont d’Urville” during a beaching at Batalie Beach on Monday morning february 13th at 10:45 A.M.

This is rather unusual ship: She has been designed to carry infantry, vehicles, and land them directly on the beach. She therefore has a flat bottomed stern structure.

The main feature of the BATRAL is her amphibian ability. The “Dumont d’Urville” carries out a wide variety of missions, particularly during post natural disaster assistance. Beaching does not require any harbour infrastructure.

Before beaching, a five diver team is deployed on the beach by a pneumatic. They operate a thorough inspection of both geological and bathymetrical profile of the beaching area in order to guarantee a safe beaching. Site scouting is essential to ensure Batral’s beaching ability.

Once the site has been scouted by the team, the ship prepares for beaching and steers towards the site; She arrives at low speed and softly runs aground. Then, opens her front stern doors and unloads both vehicles and freight.

The ships commanding officer, Lieutenant-Commander Stutzmann will perform this operation  at Batalie beach on Monday February 13th at 10:45 A.M.

Two officers from the Dominica Coast Guards have been invited on board to take part of the training mission.

Dominica disaster Management Unit will be ashore to discover the potential of such vessel in case of emergency need.

The three-day call of the Batral Dumont d’Urville enabled high level bilateral discussions and meetings between France and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Is a nice boat, an interesting boat, but just incase de powers that be get any ideas and thinking of buying one, we de tax payers cannot afford it. Unless we getting one for free. Inspite of the hole in de taxpayers pocket, a boat like that could become useful during a natural disaster, so perhaps we could get a set of them boat house fellas in Newtown or Pottersville to build a big pwi-pwi dat can do de same thing and we can call our bateau “Rose giving me blows with her shoes”….

It”s very interesting how low minded some of our people are. Everything in Dominica is centered around some stupid political nonscence. Why is it we can”t see the benefits of this program? Dominicans, let’s make life in Dominica what it has to be> Ci i bon, di i bon. Roosevelt Skerrit is doing well for Dominica and Dominicans, and that’s what the Opposition is scared off, and that’s why he is the ONLY one being attacked by these Vulture; the UWP and their acolytes

this people are so not trustworthy, when this types of exercises are allowed,it leaves a bad taste to your stomach,i can’t help but to hold my breath and wonder,if the intension here is as they said it is,because an exercise so can gather a lot of information for a number reasons, not only emergency purposes,i am not going to mention what i mean, because i know their are a lot bright minds are out there on the web,and this bright minds know based on the direction that the country is taking, anything is possible,it does not have to be today, but hey it is a cat and mouse game, everyone and everthing is being watched in this world today, and curiously to,there was no mention, that the government of dominica was the ones behind the collaboration,in fact as it is written, the organizations involve are the french consulate, the OECS and the french military or head of international affairs, this amazed me,that they did not mention the government of dominica,i would assume, that the first name who should be mentioned is the government of dominica,i was little taken back, anyway like one of our long gone polliticians once said,TIME WILl TELL.

What does this comment have to do with the above article?
If a natural disaster hits us, would it not be to our advantage to know that this type of ship can land at a particular place to provide assistance?
