A ghost in St. Lucia?

The man with the 'bolom' in the background
The man with the ‘bolom’ in the background

When a man in the small community of Sarrot in Bexon, St. Lucia decided to take a photo of himself, little did he know it would turn into a sensation.

According to HTS News when the photo was viewed, something in the background “turned out to be a shocking revelation.”

The daughter of the man said only three individuals were in the room when the photo was taken but somehow something else appeared in it.

And she said it does not look like any of the other people present.

Soon news of the photo began spreading and residents of the community became convinced that the image in the picture is not human.

Many said it is in fact what is well known by folks in St. Lucia as a ‘bolom.’

According to St. Lucian folklore, a bolom is a two or two-and-a-half-foot man brought into the world on Good Friday by someone with evil intent. After it is brought into existence, the bolom carries out its master’s evil bidding with great relish.

The stories go on to say that the bolom survives on raw meat, which the master must supply in great quantities or be eaten himself.

Family members of the man in Bexon are now convinced that there are unwanted guests in the house and some supernatural being has taken over.

Never been to St. Lucia, I’ve heard stories from people who grew up there, they’ve had their own personal encounters, and family members who practiced voodoo. I’ll go one of these days and find out for mysel.

Some religions because of their non-Biblical teachings lend themselves more than others to such superstitions. There are only two places people go when they die. Either they go to heaven or they go to hell. There is no purgatory or limbo in the Bible.

Those who have believed the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) (Romans 1:16) and received Jesus Christ as their Savior (1 John 5:11,12) (Revelation 3:20) go to heaven. If you read Luke 16:19-31 you will see there are only two places.

Now if you examine Luke 16:24-26 you will find that the dead cannot come back into this earth life to communicate with, or give messages to the living. They certainly cannot come back to scare or haunt us. Read it! Verse 26 says “…there is a great gulf fixed. So that they which would pass from hence to you cannot:…”

There are no “ghosts” because the souls of the dead are in either heaven or hell. They do not come back to visit or get their picture taken!

However, there are demons which are evil spirits.

Demons can oppress people from the outside (Acts 10:38) or possess them which is when a demon enters the individual (Matthew 8:16). Either oppression or possession can result in mental or physical illness. However, most illness is not caused by demons. Usually there is a natural cause.

Demon possession can cause religious leaders to depart from the Biblical faith and begin teaching false doctrines that contradict the Holy Scriptures and deny the great fundamental truths of historical Christianity.

Demon possession can also cause people to commit sins of sexual perversion and pursue vile lifestyles. It causes some to become the worst kind of serial rapists and killers.

But God loves each person even those who have fallen victim to demon possession. On the cross Jesus Christ paid the price in full for their salvation, deliverance, and healing. (Romans 5:6-8) Because it is already paid for it is is GIFT to all who will believe (St. John 3:16,17,36) and receive it by faith (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

No doubt there is a natural explanation.

When people want to believe in “ghosts” they tend to read their superstition into any strange happening that allows for it.

The Bible reveals that there are only two places a person can go when he or she dies: heaven or hell. Read Luke 16:19-31. If you examine verse 26 you will see that the dead do not come back!

However, there are demons also called evil spirits. They can impersonate human beings who are alive or even who have died.

Demons can POSSESS human beings who invite their presence by living careless and godless lives. They can cause mental or physical illnesses.

They can cause “hauntings” and make strange things to occur. Some “hauntings take place in buildings were there has been a murder committed or where some form of evil was practiced because these things tend to attract demons.

However, I have heard of false images appearing in photos. Usually the image itself raises questions. For example in this picture the “ghost” appears side on. It is not looking at the camera. It’s not like this is somebody who wants attention or even wants a picture taken. I suspect there was a mechanical failure in the camera, or it was caused by the lighting, or a reflection.

If this was something that happened again and again in the same location I would want to have it investigated first by somebody who had expertise in photography. If “images” kept appearing and no natural explanation could be found I would talk to a pastor with experience in deliverance: somebody with a knowledge of the demonic.

We do have authority over Satan. Both individuals and buildings can be delivered by the merits of the Blood of Jesus Christ and the power of HIS Name.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Pentecostal Evangelist. Director of Living Hope Ministries. http://www.livinghopeministries.ca

Strange things do happen. An invisible visitor. The man must have got a shock that when he thought he was taking a picture of himself for keepsake, he got company in the picture.
Was the picture taken with a cellphone camera or a real camera by a photographer? Was the picture processed?
There are two possibilities. It could be what they think it is or the picture could have been doctored. This must be investigated to hopefully determine the truth.
If it is what they state, they will have to take out the Holy Water and ask a priest to bless their home.
These things are around and do go around. As always, they go where they are not wanted and obviously not welcomed and could scare the occupants. If the picture of the thing is true, blessing and prayers are needed.

That is no invisible visitor, it is something in the film, there are ways it can be analyzed, to find out what it is.

Nonetheless, it has revamp a superstition which controls the mind of the illiterate, and weak minded of the majority of St. Lucian’s, and Dominicans also!

We find such equivalent on films all the time; one time I took a picture of myself in the Den of my house; after I had the photographs developed, I saw more than one of me, coming to find out all of me came from reflections from a huge sliding glass door leading to the outside backyard from the den.

In one of the me, I had three twisted faces.

Now Justice the superstition contends the little man must be feed plenty of meat, to survive, if that’s the case, they should see somebody in St. Lucia buying plenty of meat to feed his thing, and one must wonder how come nobody turn up dead eaten by this thing.

      Superstition, superstition, superstition, superstition!

When I set up my camera, and set it on automatic to take my picture, I became a ghost also!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

And their superstition is not even special. It was brought here by the europeans. Look up “homonculus”. It basically describes what people call “moos” in dominica and this same “bolom” thing in st. lucia.

I was trying to understand that “sentence” about weak minded and illiterate Dominicans and St. Lucians. It’s not very clearly written. Were you trying to insinuate that the majority of St. Lucians and Dominicans are “weak minded” and illiterate or were you just making a general stereotipical comment about the weak minded and illeterate? Your comment was sooooo “eloquently” written. Are you one of those “strong minded” and super literate Individuals? I was confused.

The spot is like a light bulb you wud not see the image.I can testify that, for sure it once I took out a photo and their waz a blurry spot lord and behold bring it to wash they are asking me if am a ware of what I took out. so this is not a bolom plain

i will not doubt, because sometime last year we had family friends visiting and we took them on a tour; we took pics at different sceneries only to find out whilst viewing some of the pics we took out in a particular village on the northeast we saw some strangeness in about five of them…a woman could be seen in five of them.
