Giraudel Flower Show is back

DandelionFlowerAn event which has been on the shelves for nine years is back on the books.

The Giraudel Flower Show, put on by the Giraudel Flower Group has re-emerged and will be staged on May 19, 2013.

The announcement was made this week at the opening ceremony of the newly constructed venue that will house the show.

The lack of a proper venue has been one of the main reasons for the 9-year halt.

Spokesperson of the Giraudel/Eggleston Flower Group, Elizabeth Alfred, said the new building will become a tourism venue and used to stage the annual event.

She said the building will be used as a botanical centre to cultivate rare flowers and a training ground for young people.

“We are involved in a small way in the community tourism program and we are hoping that this can be a stopover. I realise the potential of that kind of business in Dominica. This is a long term investment,” she said.

First of all it is great to read the our powerful lady, “Elizabeth Alfred” is still on the go on behalf of our Giraudel. May God bless you with the strength you need my lady.

Secondly I remember when I was part of the organizing group for the “Flower Show”. The work was hard but the fun made it seem like nothing at all–especially when the village lighted up with all of those beautiful stall of flowers and good food; music and dancing would follow later on.

Those were the days! I did not know they had stopped for nine years, but I am glad that they are back. And so, people of Giraudel and Eggleston, I say continue in unity as you have always been so. May God bless this beautiful event fruitfully and long-lastingly.

DNO I am looking forward to read all about it on your site.

Is it me? Something isn’t right with this sentence: ” The announcement was made this week at the opening ceremony of the newly built Giraudel/Eggleston Flower Show.” Is there a building called ” The Giraudel/Eggleston Flower Show”?

You have a problem man…Some people really just ignorant…Maybe it’s because the flower show originated in Giraudel…hence the Giraudel/Eggleston …where is the issue?

I have never posted any comments through this forum but since it is something dare to me I had to. Though a comment was made re the choice of putting Giraudel or Eggleston first, I see no reason for it to warrant such response. Why does the country have to know if there is any animosity or rivalry between the two villages. The news story that the Flower show is back should not be a vehicle to show disunity but to prove that the two villages can work together and prove success.

For decades there has been this rivalry and it his high time it stops. I know for a fact that Eggleston persons do put themselves out there and participate when any activities are planned. I have seen persons coming straight from work and without a break run to the site to ensure that things are done. It is quite disheartening to read the comments made by Giraudel and Ms. Giraudel. Hats off to you all if you do your best but never let it be said that Eggleston persons don’t pull their weight. Why do you think the village beautification competition was won twice in a year. It is because villagers put themselves out there.

Thank God for what you have. You have lovely flowers, your have great women and men who can pool themselves together but also give us our blessings. We do not have flowers like you but even with our limitations we get the job done.

And always remember, together we stand divided we fall.

        Ponder on that

You all are dissapointing me. Is this what we want to show the rest of the world. Arguing whether is a Giraudel or Eggleston thing, smh. Why is there always this issue? We do many things jointly and succeed, let’s put our differences aside and show the world what WE have to offer, instead of spreading all this negative vibe. I can’t wait to be part of it!

        @Giraudel February 28, 2013

Did you have to write the name Giraudel to write this dis-tasting comment?

I am from Giraudel too, and I find this sentiment of yours quite embarrassing! Geeeeeeeeeeze!

Because Mr. Royer called it the Giraudel Eggleston flower show and market fair. That’s why Giraudel is first in this case.

Well I hope that DNO will do the Giraudel Flower Show proud in their reporting by showing some decent pictures from the show. which would also help broaden appreciation and awareness of this event. Exhibitors can also help be submitting photo’s of their exhibits!!

    February 28, 2013

ADMIN: You refer to the building as ‘newly refurbished’ then as the ‘new building’. It is not a refurbished building, but is in fact a new building.
