“God has given us something to think about” – Catholic priest on Vieille Case accident

Roman Catholic Priest, Father Herman Sharplis is of the view that the recent accident in Ambas Vieille Case, during which five men lost their lives, shows that God has given us something to think about and maybe it is “time to take stock.”

He spoke at a candle light vigil on Sunday in Penville to remember the impact that the men had on the lives of those around them.

“It is fete Penville, so this afternoon Penville would have been on fire and Penville would have been on fire from Friday and now would have been the culmination,” he noted. “And you know when you have a real fire and the fire catching, pay attention to this; this is the very same day that you should be feting, and in the midst of the storm of life, God has given us something to think about.”

He continued, “God has given us something to think about because maybe God is saying to us, ‘it’s time to take stock’.”

He said while it is perfect to have a good time, “don’t forget the Lord in the days of thy youth.”

“And to forget God in the day of the youth often times we think we will always have time, but time waits on no man,” Fr. Sharplis added.

He went on to say that life is full of storms and everyone at one point in their life has to face the storms of life.

“These young men, unfortunately, they have gone, but we are here and God is saying to us in all of this, we should not lose hope,” he stated.

Acting Prime Minister Reginald Austrie called on the people of Penville to use this incident to further unite as a family in that community.

“I feel that incident should probably change the life of everybody in Penville for a very long time, and what I have noticed by coming here and speaking to the family that we have seen that we never seen before, a binding unity and love among the people of Penville,” he said. “We have seen people holding hands, we have seen people crying on each other shoulders and we have seen what is it that a real community should be like, not only during times of tragedy but throughout.”

Austrie pointed out that maybe this incident is a wake-up call for the people of Penville, “that we need to continue to unite as a family and to keep on looking out for each other in good times and in bad times.”

He told the people of Penville that they have lost five “soldiers” but he is sure that there are 25 out there just waiting to blossom.

“And you here have an obligation to yourself to ensure that every young man and every young woman in Penville becomes a soldier for Penville and from Penville,” Austrie said.

Meantime, Deputy Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) Dr. Sam Christian said the country is losing too many of its young sons.

“The third stanza of our national anthem begins by saying, Come ye Forward, Sons and Daughters- ladies and gentlemen today I have a problem that we are losing too many of our sons,” he said. “We are losing too many of our sons and this is the conversation that we as a nation need to have.”

He added, “We saw the bright and beautiful balloons as we celebrate the lives of these young men and in the coming days leading up to that climax of that funeral, we will continue to bear each other burdens and we will continue to make sure that every son and daughter in Dominica will be kept as safe as possible and to live full abundant lives,” he noted.

Dr. Christian took the opportunity to thank Consultant Psychiatrist at the Psychiatric Unit, Doctor Griffin Benjamin, the nurses at the Healthcare Centre and any other medical professionals who rendered their help to the bereaved.

The deceased are Mandela Ophar 21; Clement Leblanc 22; Cecil Jude Jean 21; Jean Louis Sango 25 and Chris Marcellin 29.

They died when a vehicle they were in plunged over a cliff at around 7:00 am on Sunday, August 6, 2017.

They will be laid to rest on Saturday, 19th August 2017.

Some words are better left unsaid. There was nothing with what Fr. Sharpliss stated. If you think in-depth you will comprehend that there are a few meanings to his words. Some of you as always twist and turn them and interpret them wrongly. This depends on your mentality. Some of you make others think that you have no common sense and are unable to think and beyond.
“God gave us something to think about” in many ways, wherever we reside. Such a simple statement and those of you usual and chronic critics do not comprehend it or pretend you do not. Pray to God for his graces and enlightenment. He will reveal the meaning of the words to you.
Some of us had no problem comprehending what Fr. Sharpliss stated.
Your love for criticizing and your negativity are annoying. They are not educating or inspiring. When will you change? You should not go through life in this manner. You will age and and as you do your mannerism will become worst and miserable.

““God has given us something to think about” yes he is warning us about all the evil things happening on our dear island. This is trickling down from the Prime Minister and his cronies and from the blind clergies turning their heads. Our young people are being sacrificed, the devil is at work. Dominica needs to be purged from all this evil.

This is nothing to do with god. This is to do with an accident as a result of those five persons, particularly the driver’s, actions long before the accident occurred. This is what we should think about. Do not bring god or gods into it because these god or gods are mythical creatures created by man over the centuries to try to explain things that man did not understand thousands of years ago. We should be more mature now and not resort to myth. What we should question is cause and effect.

Point of Order, I have been stating the same thing for some time now but some of our people are so caught up with religion that they refuse to do the research. Many of us do not believe in these myths and allegories anymore because we know that these different religions are “fragments of the periphery of our divine spirituality” (Professor James Smalls on Youtube). Religions came thousands of years after our spirituality, the symbols, written in stones, which our fore parents left us on the walls of the pyramids, called Medu Neter, which the Europeans called Heirogylps.
We still listen to the priests, who continue to be like masters over slaves. Religions put fear in our hearts because many of us believe if we do not belong to some sort of religion that we will go to hell. None of us were born with a religion until our parents introduced them to us. Spirituality means having connection with nature and people. When we were civilised, there were no jails, guns, warefare, etc.,.

@ Point of Order whether your believe in God or not does not make him non existent. Just be careful that when your time comes you are prepared. One day you will meet your creator. Your opinion doesn’t change the existence or nonexistence of anything. Go see the movie ” a case for Christ” now in theater. The fool has said in his heart there is no God.

@Galileo, I respect your twist but it does make sense. Are you confirming that PM is somewhere on state business? If so where? I was on the sight at around 7:05 am, and many of us who were there were told by a government minister on site, that Skerrit was on his way! The accident took place at 7 AM, the same day PM left the island. At that time he was maybe still on island or, was not far. I don’t know what moving statement he issued because all he said in a nutshell is that he knew all five young men and one of the even addressed his constituency young labor movement, the day before. He did not say what he addressed but since I attended I can tell you what it is the young man addressed. He was on the program to address a candle light vigil on Sunday night, and he did not come which means that he might not be in touch with the people as you suggested otherewise he wouldn’t be on the schedule. Concerning funeral planning is joke because he pays for almost all funerals in DA

    2. Did he force them to go into a vechile drunk – no
    3. Is he the one responsible for their action – no

Many of our problems and situations are as a result of our choices in life and not the fault of god’s. It like cheating on a test and blaming god when you failed at it.

This reminds me of a time when human beings were so ignorant that they either blamed God for everything or murdered their loved ones to please God for rain and sunshine for the crops! For goodness sake man, teach poor Black people to be responsible, from leadership to man in the street, take responsibility for your actions and how you affect the natural and social environment and leave God out of your nonsense! This is why Black poor people remain ignorant. Karl Marx did say that, “Religion is the opium of the people”, but I say look how God has become the excuses of the fools!

Herman stop talking bull crap, people do not die in order, one of my grand child died at two years old; he got ran over by a speeding car in East Los Angeles. One of my sons died at 51 years old from natural causes. Two of my brothers got killed; my brother Police Inspector Almoor Robin got murdered on the island of Antigua in his fortieth year: Shortly after a younger brother Joel, got ran over on his motorcycle on the island of Guadeloupe; did God cause that to happen so that people should take stock?

Of my mother’s five children; only my 83 year sister and I are alive,so did God cause the rest of my siblings by mother to die so that my older sister and I should take stock?

Last July while I was on my to Louisiana, driving a high profile Corvette, top speed is 220 miles per hour, I was on I-20 doing a little above seventy miles per hour when someone deliberately ran me off the Freeway. My car air-borne, and dropped in a gully on the side of the Freeway, bounced from side…

      August 14, 2017

      Continue:

My car air-borne, and dropped in a gully on the side of the Freeway, bounced from side to side, while I looked into my passenger face.

All that lady could say is ” Jesus.” When the car landed and bounced from side to side, each time I saw death, and wondered how soon we would die; the car sat on its four wheals and ran about five feet and stopped. I immediately got angry and was about to use some profanities (the “F”) words when I heard a voice said to me “But you are alive!”

Why Rendy and I are alive today is a mystery, and miracle to me; God did not allow us to die that day.

If God were you or some Roman Catholic pope, maybe he would kill people in order to make others take stock!

      Take stock of what?

It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that is the judgment. Anybody can die at anytime, I can die before the day is over, you can die by the time I am through writing this.

God gives everyone a choice, you either accept Jesus Christ…

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      August 14, 2017

      Finally:

God gives everyone a choice, you either accept Jesus Christ or you do not. God allows things to happen including death. There are millions of children (babies) which were born dead. Did God cause that to happen so that people could take stock?

Anything God wants us to take stock about is written in his words, even in the Roman Catholic Bible, as well as the Protestants Bible. The question is this: since you call yourself priests are you capable of teaching the word of God to your congregation.

Or are you one of those who preach the philosophy of some man full of sin who you all call pope “papa” or father which is the definition of the word pope! Herman, God do not kill people, they die whenever their appointed date with death comes along.

Perhaps it would be more appropriate to take driving conditions in the country into consideration; think about speeding, driving inebriated, and speeding showing off, that might be the problem than God killing people you that…

Zandoli, I like the power; I have more than one high profile sport cars. When I leave Los Angeles going across country, and into Canada, I must be able to do it in less than three days.

Hence, I need the power, and the speed to accomplish that. I usually make it to Canada in two and a half days, an Eighteen wheeler takes about five, under normal circumstances it takes about three and a half to four days.

Have you ever heard the song about the little old lady from Pasadena, well she was older than I am when she drove around in a Corvette wrecking havoc in the city of Pasadena.

I said mine; he iterates, I mean which one of you relatives does this belongs, I said mine, coming to find out my appearance and my age do not come close, if you see me as everyone else you might think I am in my early fifty’s.

I am a young old man you see, my younger daughter told me I do age: I am ever-green, praise be to God. My question – are these feast spiritual or are they just a partying thing. Cause I bet you that drinking and being under the influence sure ain’t part of God’s plan. Let’s say you change this to bring all spiritual and developing a closer walk with the Lord, do you think that there will be that pull of all these people.

These feasts are indeed fetes, fetes that defeat the spiritual aspect and growth of an individual. We need to recognize the real meaning of these feasts. Would Christ be part of all that drinking and gyrating that goes on. Ask ourselves that question.

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      August 15, 2017

Green, the feast the Roman Catholics are pushing has nothing to do with God Jehovah, or his Son Jesus Christ. Those so called feasts are part of the pagan ideology!

Even the well celebrated holiday Christmas does not have anything to do with God, and the birth day of Jesus Christ. That is a pagan manufactured holiday: no so called priest pope, or reverend, can go into the Bible and say on this day or date Jesus Christ was born.

They are all liars; finding a way to make money. If you study the word of God, you will find Jesus Command that believers in him observe, the Passover, where he broke Bread, and Drank Wine, and eat with his disciples; and commanded that we do that in remembrance of him!

And the date we do that is very clear in the ins words. All the so called feast, of the so called saints are nonsense. When the bible speaks of saints it is talking about ordinary people like you and I!

My father I thank you for preaching the bible and quoting what the bible says. We sure need more of that. For example, one scripture you quoted is: Ecclesiastes 12:1, which says to Remember the creator in the days of thy youth.
Here is another scripture in the bible that pastors, priests, bishops seem to avoid:
Matt. 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

So my father, Jesus is clear that it is WRONG for a man to marry a divorced woman because that makes him an adulterer. So my father, what about the priest or pastor that performs such marriage? Isn’t he doing what God says is wrong?

My father when we do what god does not like, such as performing secret marriage because person involved is divorced and they have money to buy us, are we not just as bad?

” For example, one scripture you quoted is: Ecclesiastes 12:1, which says to Remember the creator in the days of thy youth.”

Now, you see how we could be ignorant of the fact? Yes, the scripture is correct, but in what context did Solomon mean that should be applied.

If in your youth, your parent took you to the Roman Catholic Church where all the idiots who should be preaching the word of God, all they did is talk about the Virgin Mary, and the doctrine that follow, such as rolling rosary, even to convincing you of a holy rosary, and teach you nothing about the Creator who is Jesus Christ, how can anyone who did not find God for themselves know the creator in the youth?

God never told anybody to worship and pray to his mother, and there is no such thing as a holy rosary, not in scriptures anyway and “holy” simply means “set apart.”

“My father I thank you for preaching the bible and quoting what the bible says”

How can he be your father? Is he your earthly biological father?

If not you should not call him father, because by doing so you are trying to make him God; so in order to get you to refrain from such nonsense; let me introduce to what God said.

If you have a Bible, even a Roman Catholic Bible: turn to the Book of Matthew 23:9-11:

” And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father which is in heaven.

      10. Neither be ye called master: for one is your Master, even Christ.

      11. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

The bottom line theses sinful people refuse to be identified as servants of God, if they are truly doing his work preaching and teaching his words. Chose to be father, and reverent because that has prestige, it seems prestigious to them

And the quicker you understand that, and stop being pompous stock up on yourself its the better off you will be.

Rather than writing crap, perhaps this is the time you should go on a quest reading the Bible, not from your personal intellectualism, but humble yourself, and hope you will find out he is not a myth, and without him, you are nothing, absolutely nothing, except you are a pile of dirt, just like the dirt you we walk on from which we all derived!

    New Living Translation
And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.

    English Standard Version
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one…

In my adult life, i’ve read vast volumes of religious books the world over, and to this day, i haven’t come across any religion sanctioned by GOD. As a matter of fact all the books carry the very same message, Man’ sole purpose in creation is to try his/her utmost best in worshiping and being able to articulate and respect GOD’ creation. i haven’t read of any priest or reverend advocating the banning or limiting the use of ALCOHOL, poisons created by man to destroy his fellow man, what about the rights of passage, where young men will learn live long principles of how and not to act? who is teaching him to respect the MACHINES created by man for the mameing and death of man? these are lessons that need to be taught, teach them that DEATH is the beginning of a new life and that no one should be afraid to die, it doesn’t matter how young or in what capacity death comes along, it should be accepted as a gift of being born. Dominicans need to get over their self-righteousness ,and…

What we should be thinking about is the use of proper guard rails to keep the car from falling over a precipice. That would have saved 5 lives. Instead we have a few pieces of steel that are not properly supported and I am sure nothing will be done with the other fake guard rails all over the island.

You say nothing about the driver. Was he fit to drive that vehicle at that time? Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t but nobody wants to talk about that, go figure.

But DNO we did not hear from Prime Minister Skerrit! In fact he was a no damn show! Didn’t you say yesterday that PM Skerrit was supposed to give a special address? But I did not see him let alone to hear his address. In fact to be blunt Skerrit has not been seen in Dominica since the day the 5 young men of Penville, in his own constituency perished? Did he disappear with them but to a different world? Neither DBS, GIS, Kairie, Q95, Voice of Life, Vibes, Marpin or anyone is saying nothing about his whereabouts. In fact not even Acting Prime Minister Reginald Austrie, told us where he is during such a difficult time for the Penville people. Father Sharplis, where is your boy Skerrit? can you contact his wife to find out where our PM is since you were the one that joined them together? We need answers man

My little Take check my BIG take:De man is well stressed ,the dominos are falling one by one .He and his cabal have not addressed the requests by our neighbors up north. De man pressure up sky high ,Reggie Austrie alias peepip too. He can see on TV & hear by way of the wireless what’s happening to Maduro, El Chapo is in already. The dragnet is on bro! Next time you see Medard watch his hand or give him a sheet of paper to hold outwards. The pressure needs to be released boy! Medard running away from the heat. Passport sales are down. Buyers surfing the net hearing about arrest of Diplomatic passport holders U would invest in D/can passport ?Skerrit will soon vanish like a pilot we heard about. Speculation would have it , the plane he was on went down shot down, some will say the Chinese roped him in b4 the US. Others will say Maduro took him 4 Venezuela money owed SOS and he is ungrateful. Father Shablis must have drank a few Chablis Blanc or rose wine, would have been direct.

@My little Take….Maybe if you were keeping abreast to what is going on around you, then you would know whether the PM Skerritt was there or not. Don’t be too quick to type what your mind says without getting the right information. Take time to listen before moving your fingers on your keyboard.

Maybe the “Evil Dr Supremo” is somewhere giving a deposition, or selling passports  Ah well maybe it might be better that he is not there, anyway because everywhere he goes, there always is a dark cloud, bad karma, bad luck, bad vibes, etc etc

The death of these young men, some of whom I knew personally, is difficult for us all as Dominicans, whether we live on the island or not. However, to think that the business of state should come to halt as a result of this incident is ludicrous and frankly, absolutely ridiculous. The Primeminister on the day of the unfortunate situation issued a very moving statement and as I understood from people close to the situation has spoken to all the families concern and is actively involved in the planning of the funeral. What more do you need? He is the Prime minister of Dominica and most continue his work.

Garcon, I heard that apologist Parry saying on Matt this morning that Skerrit is not bound to tell us because of security. What a load of baloney. Does Skerrit have enemies, and if so more even than the President of the U.S.A.? And even if he goes on vacation he can tell us that is what he is doin g. He does not have to tell us every time he goes to toilet but he does not stop being our P.M. when he goes on vacation.
Parry, I don’t care what you say but this P.M,. we have is disrespectful of his own people and has no manners. Let’s see if he claims his per-diem when he gets back and we will know if his absence was private or official.

Wow!! Now out comes the charlatan…Herman I suppose you kno the mind of god,you know what God is thinking & what he wants. Only in the name of religion could any person get away with such an evil statement. If a politician made such a wicked statement all of you on this sight would be very upset but I guess in the name of claiming to speak for god one can utter that kind of foolishness & get away with it. Go tell that to the 3 year old child who lost her father & has to grow up without him that this is part of gods devine plan.

Father Sharplis great words, but it all starts with the leader of the country, who seems to believe he is the supreme leader and our once loving country has been sold to the devil.
