Gov’t to host national consultation on development prospects for Dominica

The event will be held at the State House

Roseau, Dominica (April 21, 2017) — The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced that it will host a national consultation under the theme, “Development Prospects for Dominica within the context of the Citizenship By Investment Programme (CBIP) as a platform for raising the funds necessary to Finance Development Activities”.

The consultation is slated for Monday, April 24th at the State House Conference Center starting at 9:00 a.m.

The consultation will take the form of presentations by the Honourable Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and the Financial Secretary, to be followed by a panel discussion on various facets of development and development financing.

A wide cross-section of the population has been invited to participate including all members of Parliament, social organisations, representative religious organisations, trade unions, public officials, the banking sector, developers and prospective developers of projects funded by CBI and agents of the CBIP. The general public will also have the opportunity to see and hear the discussions via live television, radio, and Internet broadcast of this important consultation.

It is the expectation that people of Dominica and the public at large will find this event an educational one and one that raises the discussion on development to a higher level of understanding.

Meanwhile, the Government of Dominica has been conducting a series of town hall and community meetings aimed at discussing development prospects particularly within the context of the Citizenship By Investment Programme being a means of raising the necessary funds to finance development programmes. Throughout these town hall discussions, the Government has provided updates on priority programmes and projects that are being implemented making special mention of those that are funded by the revenues raised under the CBIP.

  1. All of that is nothing more than rubbish, garbage talk: Only in Dominica we hear such nonsense, development comes to a country via investments, in industries, jobs, and employment of the citizens of the country!

Local born Dominicans are responsible to develop their country. How can Dominicans born do anything to develop Dominica when 99% of the people are penniless! Perhaps more than 99% of Dominicans do not have a single dime saved in a pillow, never mind in a Bank.

Where are our industries, and investments by both local, and foreign people? Where is the infrastructure such as an International Airport and other facilities to encourage foreign investments, and investors into the country? Foreigners are not interested in spending their money in Dominica because it remains a backward, and primitive place!

Skerrit can sell as many passports as he wish, and give all of the proceeds to his colleagues to build hotels even buy burial Hurst drawn carriages, that will not help…

Yet another meeting will be taking place, where the lying bureaucrats, will sit in a fancy building and talk more rubbish that will please the listening pleasure and platitudes of the clueless Labor supporters, while the boys divvy up the spoils of the CBI monies.
The true definition of development is the provision of goods and services to people in the communities where they reside. The distance between Roseau and Portsmouth is 24 miles. You have one operational gas station on the West Coast of the island, yet you guys sit and talk foolishness all the time. All that travel to Asia, Europe and elsewhere and Dominica still looks and functions the same way from generation to generation.

Has Cabinet been presented with the results of the study/plan for the Int’l Airport yet? All well and good, but talk alone never build a wall yet..
After 17 years in power with such dismal performance one can’t help to be at least a wee bit skeptical of all this fancy talk..who offended look without and then look within..

What has happened to the Growth and Social Protection Strategy?I though it was the government’s development plan for the country.

This is just for public relations, based on the advice of the hired U.S. PR firm Mercury. That will not impact the economy or anything else in Dominica save the use (or is it misuse?) of taxpayers’ monies.

You people are so negative!! This is a great opportunity for you full time critics to put your criticism where your mouth is. Let us see if the UWP members will actually make a contribution to this worthwhile effort. So easy to criticize but so hard to make a meaningful contribution.

It is quite easy to make a meaningful contribution, if you have leaders who are open to suggestions and pragmatic ideas. None of which takes place in Dominica. The goal is to keep fooling the clueless Labor supporters with free rum and plywood, while the boys maintain their dominance. When you look at the toilet facilities that was constructed by the Government for the Hot Water at Soufriere, you will understand why we are so critical. If we can’t get that right, then what else can they do for those in communities outside Roseau Central.

Now is the time for the Dear Leader to rise to the occasion. If he is really serious about a national consultation on development prospects for Dominica, there should be an input from the diaspora.

To the ordinary labourites this sounds like a government in action. To understand context we review words before and after. Let’s use same mindset. This government has been in power since 2000. It has now been 17 years. What happened to the development plans from your four manifestos? Recently we have seen the use of town hall meeting for the distribution of millions to communities and groups that had no plans in place as to how they are going to use these funds in a sustainable way to regenerate more economical activity. 99 percent of these funds will go into unsustainable social programs. Today after 17 years of begging, wasted opportunities, lies, deception, millions on campaign and 2 years after winning a general election the government announces national consultation on Dev. Prospects. It indicates 1. They have no ideas, 2. They have failed to take the country forward 3. The realization that CBI money is not forever. Dominica needs a change of government. Thats it!!

laughable. It will be circus with everyone trying to propose pipe dreams and pies in the sky. Some will be relevant but the procedures of execution will be asinine. While a small amount will be on point and timely. In the End, the powers that be will continue to push ahead with the plans they already have in motion and do what they want. although prudent to engage the stakeholders of the country, keep in mind that too many cooks spoil the soup. select ingredients will be accepted in the pot. again, elections are near, and they (government and opposition) need ideas that sound good to the people.

We want skerrit to go and a change of government. He has failed and cannot be trusted. After 17 years anything you say or plan means nothing. Look at all the badly implemented programs and projects that cannot finish. Will you let a thief set up your security system in your house? He may have a seemingly good plan at the moment, but you have to be aware he is a thief. Their is a history. Hope you get my point.
