Dominicans are rallying together to bring relief to those affected by tropical Storm Erika.

Last week members of the Grand Fond Village Council donated a load of local produce to the residents of Coulibistrie.

Joyce Pascal is the council’s chair.

She explained, “I believe that as a council it is appropriate for us to meet the needs of people especially in trying times like these. We want you to know that we share your pain and suffering and the burden of rebuilding your community.”

She said to the receiving communities, “You have to realize that unity is strength and if you are united with the councilors, you can work together to rebuild Coulibistrie.”

Chairperson of the Coulibistrie Village Council, Ericson Robinson thanked the Grand Fond villagers effusively for their contribution.

“On behalf of the communities of Coulibistrie and Morne Ratchette, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the council and people of Grand Fond particularly the Parliamentary Representative of Grand Fond. They have come from far to ensure that the people of Coulibistrie who are hurting and are in need have provision and fruits.

“We have been getting some relief but it’s processed food and that contribution is valued because a lot of the older persons have been asking for some provisions since they have limited access to their farms. We really appreciate the contribution.”

He spoke of strengthening the partnership between the two councils.

    Papa Joe

You are not from Coulibistrie. You are a liar and you should take those words back. I know lots of people who are from this Village, they will give you the last of what ever the have. Or maybe you are referring to your self. How nasty you are to talk about friendly people like that. Shame on you

While you have premise that not all our people are heartless and greedy, however, throughout centuries, the coulibistrie community have been divided because of Religious and Political affiliation. The Truth hurts and hurts deep.

We have always been a hard working people but we will continue to destroy our neighbors because they not blue or red, Catholic or gospel mission. When the rain falls, it don’t fall on only one set. Erica did not discriminate to red nor blue but all our people.
We continue with this evil and pass it onto our children and we forget about the love for our brothers and sisters. citizens of coulibistrie, please hear and take heed, the Good Lord has spoken to us and he is not happy with the direction of the village.
To those political and Religious homongers, I say to you, people must come before our affiliation. The love for our neighbors should be fundermental for our progress. Let us unite and Reject these evils in our community. When will we learn?

The people of Grand Fond should be commended for donating their food to the people of Coulibistrie.

I am from Coulibistrie and I know my people. If the tables were turned, they would never give you even a ripe fig. Coulibistrie people do not help anybody, not even our own people.

I hope they reflect on what others are doing for them and they change their ways in the future.

A friend told me that when the people of Morne Rachette were building their community center which also serves as a disaster shelter, the people of Coulibistrie did not contribute a penny toward constructing the building. As a matter of fact, they boycotted every fundraising event for the building.

As luck would have it, they were the first to occupy the building after Erika.

I do hope they use this even to look at the mirror and change their ways.

Well done Grand fond for your love and concern and practical assistance.

This should encourage those overseas donors who are doing so much, to see and hear of Dominicans who are doing their share to bring relief rather than fighting and politicking at such a vulnerable time in our nation’s history.

Let that be our daily word of thanks and praises to all. We Shall Rise Again. G/ F/ # massive we in the big apple are touched. one lv.
