Gregoire calls for unbiased judging at Carnival competitions

Chairman of the Dominica National Petroleum Company Ltd. (DNCP), Felix Gregoire, has urged judges to be fair in their decisions in Carnival-related competition.

His statement was made following comments made by Promoter of Mas Dominik 2016, Val Cuffy, that the public must respect the judges’ decisions.

“I just wanted to make a comment on a statement made by a member of the DFC or DDA concerning that judges’ decisions are final and must be respected. I endorse that completely because those persons who are judging are doing it on a voluntary basis. And we need to give them support, and respect their judgment,” he stated, at a press conference on Thursday.

However, Gregoire explained, that while most judges are fair, there is always a suspicion of unscrupulous judges.

“But, having said that, I must add that there is a school of thought that one or two judges may have their own agenda and may make things difficult for the other judges, and the organizers,” he noted.

He asked that these judges refrain from being biased, and be mindful that their decisions affect the lives of the contestants in different ways. He reminded the judges that the contestants’ self-confidence hangs in the balance.

“I would like to advise those judges in the minority, to desist from anything that may cause them to be biased during a competition because we are dealing with the lives of people. We have so many beautiful ladies here, who have a career in front of them… and when we make some critical mistakes we do affect those persons,” he said. “And everybody’s different—some people can take situations very hard, and others can take situations easily… those situations can damage the self-confidence of the young persons who we want to elevate.”

Well said buddy we need to hear this more and also we should bring judges from other Caribbean countries and not use the same judges every year they feel to at home and think they are always right ten
years the same person on the panel is to much we have young and old folks that need to start judging.

You are so right because there are two placed in the final which I think was unfair.

Do investigate the woman judge and the man judge for the queen show 2k16 who is working with one of the girls. There are others to who are also working openly and behind the scenes with the girls and they still are going to be involved in the judging. This is unfair and they must be exposed.
The Queen Show Committee must ensure that such persons are not on panel to judge the show.
We do not what any more issues with pageants or judged shows for the season or ever.
It is rather a damn shame that a big man and a big woman like you whom should know better to be involved in this foolishness.
Bold Face and No face acts of utter arrogance. These people go to church morning noon and night in all churches all over Dominica. Some of them not even sure where they really stand with God. I want the Queen show committee and all those Queens and their representatives to investigate these matters . They must not have anyone who work with any girl judging.

…and the disbursements of money in the Dominica National Petroleum Company account! That is our company after all, not Skerrit’s own.
We need a freedom of information act!

I agree with the board outline of his explanation and that’s just what it is he is encouraging those who are called to be Judges to put their personal opinions a side and only then you can do a proper job don’t add to the voices of others out there who believe other wise Ok.
We have a job to do and we cannot do that if we keep the people on edge all the time, So I call on every one to have a lovely Canival Season and that also include the Judges.

….And those in high office too. They are not immune from being “Judged” in the carnival of politics.
So not just carnival but in all areas, no one is immune and should be protected by the law, but account to it
