Hurricane preparedness meetings kickoff with New Town tonight

George

Preparations for the 2011 hurricane season will be discussed when residents of New Town meet tonight.

Parliamentary Representative for the area Ambrose George said this is the first in a series of several meetings carded for the Newtown community.

“We are beginning with our series of meetings at the Fatima Church Hall from 7pm. We have invited some resource persons and we are hoping that the people of the community will attend so that we can speak and hear from the people in terms of our preparedness for the hurricane season,” he said.

Cabinet will also meet with Bath Estate residents on Monday, Kingshill on Tuesday, Giraudel on Wednesday and Loubiere on Thursday.

There are some huge pot holes on the Fortune Road. If they are not filled in before the heavy rains come, persons who use that road will have a problem. The same is true for other residential areas. I suggest that Government repair all pot holes before further erosion takes place and cut all tree branches overhanging main roads in residential areas. These are not projects to leave in the hands of communities at this time, given the costs involved and resources that are required.
