Days after Hurricane Maria, residents of Eggleston got together to begin clearing the road even before heavy machinery arrived.
They even cooked a pot and showed that their community spirit was not dampened by the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

Following the rubbish, which you spoke above, the line is the only good part of your thought: “But it’s good to see the people of Eggleston take the lead” If every village would do like the people of Eggleston, can you imagine the relief it would create for the government? After all, they are human beings like ourselves, not robots and magicians.
You also said: “and though I don’t know who is there parlrep, you could tell they have a good person representing them and that is a motivator right there”. How do you know that their parliament representative had any part in this? Well at present their parliament representative is Joshua Francis; I know that because I am from Giraudel, which is the sister village of Eggleston
The parl rep has absolutely nothing to do with the community spirit. The government is not needed to mobilize any actvity within the community. It is incumbent on the people to take action for themselves. The people of Eggleston wanted the road cleared so they did it. They were hungry so they cooked.
That is a simple example of “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” That is what I think best represents the Dominican spirit – doing good in the country and in the community regardless of what Government presides. If we are going wait for development to work only from the top to the bottom, we won’t get the work complete. The Government is already taking care of its part on the national and international stage to get the country on the path forward. It is up to the people, to take care of the local community efforts to get the country moving again and together we can all get through this. That is truly #Dominicastrong.
Residents of Eggleston, togetherness and cooperation go a long way. Great job! This is a godly spirit! God bless you!

If only we had a government that was a unifier and understood the power of community spirit, as bad as Maria was life would be much better and Dominica would be back to some level of stability and a state of normalcy much sooner than we think. Unfortunately we have a PM that is bent on dividing the country for his political benefit and as a result recovery will take much longer than one would have liked. But it’s good to see the people of Eggleston take the lead and though I don’t know who is there parlrep, you could tell they have a good person representing them and that is a motivator right there
