IPO chairman wants annual reports discussed in parliament

Johnson

Chairman of the Integrity in Public Office (IPO) Commission Julian Johnson is calling for the annual report of the commission to be discussed in Parliament.

Johnson told an interview with the media that the commission is obliged to make an annual report available to parliament but he is unaware of any discussions of them.

“We have raised a number of issues in these reports. I am not aware that there have been any debates, discussions in parliament on the reports of the integrity commission over the last two years,” he explained.

He continued, “Parliament requires us to send a report to it and we thought that parliament would have given some consideration to report when received, look at it, ask questions about it and ask questions of the executive.”

Johnson also said the whole question of legislative amendment should also be discussed.

I notice that the Serenity Prayer would come in handy for you at this point, Mr. Johnson.

You really cannot change this situation of people not using your report no matter how bad it gets for you or how useful the information would be for Dominica’s overall development.

Unless Parliamentarians wake up on mornings and decide to perform the duties that they were elected and are expected to do, you will continue to be frustrated and, in time, eternally stressful.

Oh Mr. Johnson, you are trying, I see that you are trying, but ALAS! You are trying in vain! Those who have eyes to see let them see. Those who have brains to think, let them think. Mr. Johnson, one of these good old days, you will come out and tell us what i really going on! You are still struggling with the idea, I see!

What an excellent way/idea to get the opposition to stay and participate in meetings of the parliament. By placing the report of their “pet project” on the table and discussed in parliament should by itself alone get Spaggs and his merry gang to remain and participate in the house.

Last time (parliamentary seating) they submitted questions for the Order Paper, chose not to ask it in the house in the house as is the norm, did not wait for the answer and promptly walked out with their new senator “chastising” the Hon. Pm for not even offering a word of congratulations on his appointment to the House. They opted for written responses that would be submitted to their office address.
