Journalists kicked out of Parliament

Journalists after they were told to leave Parliament

Members of the media who were at House of Assembly for the Third Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament on Tuesday were told to leave since they were not invited.

They were told that only the Government Information Service (GIS) was allowed to stay.

One media person expressed the view that the justification used by a clerk at parliament that the media was not provided with an invitation to the meeting, was completely untrue.

“The reasons one of the clerks gave was that an invitation was not sent to the press and that information is incorrect. He said that we are not allowed to cover parliament and I know that other years, that has not been the case because GIS is sitting in right now and what I am wondering is why other media persons are not invited,” the journalist said.

She added that she provided the clerk with her ID and press card, yet she was refused entry.

“I showed him my ID, I showed him everything and then he said ‘no we cannot enter,” she said.

According to her, the press was asked to leave the premises of the Parliament when officials entered.

“Basically he just said we cannot get in parliament,” she remarked.

The press was then advised to take all necessary information from live broadcasts on television and radio.

Live coverage of Parliament is taking place on GIS channel 7 on Marpin and Digicel Play. It can also be listened live on DBS radio and viewed via live stream on GIS YouTube

They were asked to leave because they were not appropriately dressed. Tell the truth. ..and not only here nah… not properly dressed in many functions.

I seriously doubt that is the case. I see people in long sleeves and trousers and dress shoes. full suits are not necessary for press.

What happen to the Dominica Journalist Association? I think too many times, especially in the Caribbean, journalists fight against each other without seeing the common goal of workers in the industry.

The members of the media in Dominica got the shock of their lives and it will be interesting to see how they respond going forward. The country is witnessing the prime Minister losing his mind. The power of position of Prime Minister added to the blind subjugation of other candidates of the Labour Party to the point that they say “if not Skerritt then who”. Skerritt needs to be saved from himself

    This is ridiculous!!!
what happen to freedom of the press???
This should be good cause for a massive protest,,,
if there is transparency then any descent inhabitant on Dominica should be able to walk in to the house of assembly and cordially attend those sessions,,,
Thought the government represented the people and it was the people’s business they were discussing,,,

Sorry you were told to leave. They were not invited and they should comprehend. Next time, ensure that you were given specific invitation. You cannot merely show-up and assume because you are journalists you were invited.
These women journalists, when you go to Parliament, ensure that you are decently clad. Note these men on DNO and what they stated. Your attire caused men to sin. It is a sin on your part. Therefore, next time dress becomingly. Be ladies.
If you were attending a function where the Queen would be present or some other dignitaries, you would dress appropriately.
I state the same for those who go to church and dress unbecomingly as if they are going shopping, for a walk and to a park. Some of those people dress better than that to go to those places.
Some people do not know how to dress. Know where you are going, where you will be and how to dress.
You want me to tell you to cover-up your behind and wear a longer blouse which will cover it?

    May 23, 2017

Journalists are and will continue to face the wrath of Skerritt and his Cabal. Freedom of the Press? Forget it. In a dictatorship the press is controlled by the Rulers in Govt. They control, influence or try to buy media houses.

GIS, DBS, are controlled totally by Skerritt and his DLP rulers. KAIRI FM, Vibes radio are very sympathetic to Skerritt and the ruling DLP Gov’t. The New Chronicle was recently bought and is another mouth-piece of Skerritt and his DLP Cabal. The Board of the Dominica Social Security bought over MARPIN from the overseas co. that is in charge of DOMLEC. A new Board of directors was instituted, but made up mainly of DLP sympathizers. Dominicans questioned that purchase of MARPIN by DSS. Soon after DSS sold over MARPIN to FLOW. The intentions are clear

Journalists the radio station Q95 have been harassed with suing, court actions, . The human Rights of Dominicans are slowly being taken away from us. DICTATORSHIP in DA is REAL

Oh my! I was thinking the same damn thing! I couldn’t believe my ears. Question like, “Mr. pm, what is one plus one?” And the AM just answering questions like a breeze. These people are no journalist. Must be begging skearat for favors.

    • viewsexpressed
      May 24, 2017

True, so true. Most journalists are scared to open their mouths and ask relevant and pertinent questions not only to inept PM, but ministers also. These guys are paid by us, our tax money and they have to account for the (Dirty) work to us and why they are so incompetent.
Now, you all have left with your tails in your backside, no stamina no strength, no strategy and this is just another pass.
What I expect of you all now when you go back to your respective media houses, is to, based on journalistic Protocal and merit , do an assessment and analysis of the day and tell us audience, based on the purpose of the House why were you all kicked out, what law was used, who kicked you out and did that person have the right to do so. Why don’t you all learn from the international media houses, eg. CNN, BBC,
ABC, Al Jazeera, (do Not check TRA TV this is an only Putin TV, just like DBS and GIS is just a Skerrit Radio and TV….very unprofessional and dictatorial).
      U journalists pull up…

Are we having a civil war and what are we fighting over ? . Do we have minerals? We as black people were left in a state of confusion after slavery . We wait on government to solve all our problems , every human being were created equal to determine their own Destiny . If we change government do we have something in place to do things differently if most people are still lazy . Our problems is slavery and the British that did a number on our way of thinking , we don’t think , when are we going to take care of our selves , never, or we must do some thing to get out of that mess. The government must educate the people to create their own future .

We as black people were left in a state of confusion after slavery.
When you say we, where were you then? Where were we?
You should know the year slavery was abolished. You know the year we are presently in. Who black people are you referring to? Are we, the people of today regarded as slaves and confused?
The past is history which should obviously be remembered but to consistently dwell on it and make such insinuations, do you not think the African forefathers/mothers would want us to consistently dwell on it and in this era, the twenty-first century, the year 2017. What good is it to us in this era?

    • May 23, 2017

Skerrit can do that to journalists because they sit back and wouldn’t question Skerrit whenever he open his mouth with his nonsense, they listen and that’s all not the shoes is on the other foot and still they will just wag their tails and that’s that. Reporters and Journalists haven got any back bone when it comes to the PM and he plays them as a violin Matt says he can get thru to the Opposltion at any time so what about the PM and other DLP ministers.
