Judy Sango says she is more than able

Judy Sango

She is ridiculed because of her ‘disability,’ lives in impoverished conditions and goes hungry many times but this does not stop 11-year-old Judy Sango from trying to reach to great heights.

“I want to be a judge,” Sango, a student of the Roosevelt Douglas Primary Shool in Portsmouth, readily admits.

But life hasn’t always been an easy road for Judy who according to her mother is suffering from permanent damage to one of her legs due to oxygen deprivation at birth.

Despite being ridiculed at school the academically superior student admits that she feels normal but wants assistance to rectify the problem in her legs.

Judy’s plight has not gone unnoticed.

Drinnon Nyerere, an aspiring documentary film maker and Founder of InsidePossie Children of Grace Foundation Inc, has decided to make a documentary on Judy’s life.

Nyerere hopes that the film will inspire everyone, physically challenged or not, to put out their best despite the odds and find medical help for Judy and other children like her on the island.

He is now seeking funds for the project which will go towards production costs; filming, professional video editing, narration, production and marketing of the film.

For more information on the project Nyerere can be contacted at [email protected] or visit insidepossie.com.

I would like to inform that judy and her family were one of the first families to get a house in chance. Its unfortunate to see the conditions, however, Dominican community should extend help when needed.

We need to help this child immediately. The video is very touching. Next time I come home I want to meet this child. This is one of those cases where I just know that I have to assist, no matter how small. Webmaster how can we help this kid? Can we start a fund for her?

We should not chant down people who are skeptical maybe they dont understantd, they just need us, the ones who know Drinnon to explain and reassure them. There are so much fake going on these days and money is tight we all have to be careful.

Drinnon has a good heart and he does not ask for anything for himself. About the film, if we all decide to just pledge money for judy, how much money can we actually give for this cause? Its not just a medical bill with a stipulated amount, its an entire life! she needs a medical and psychological team to work with her, asses her and decide what can be done and how to do it to make her most comfortable. The film will look at a bigger picture, it will get international coverage when we help share it on the internet. Some good hearted team of doctors out there will come to her assistance. Some Aid donors out there will see her and understand, and she will have a better life. Who knows, maybe she could get a lifetime sponsor so she could become Judge Judy. I know this child and she is always at the top of her class, she recieves awards every school term. with the right exposure Judy can achieve great things. Yesterday I thought about the film and just like you I said I woud just make a donation. But I slept on it and I looked at the big picture and I saw beyond giving money to her. I saw changing her life. Come on Dominicans, we can do it, support Drinnon in making this child an example. Check inside Possie website and call anybody you know in Portsmouth, ask about Drinnon Etienne Nyerere (sp) you will be amazed.

I am so touched by this video and i must say that drinnon and his team has take it further this time by seeking local and international help for judy. These guys are from portsmouth and as i resident from portsmouth who annualy make donations to the back to school program they run every year, these guys are legit, its not for profit but they are genuine in their works and can be trusted. They have proven them selves over and over again. My company i must say trust and believe in the work that they do.So i am calling on all Dominicans to support what they are doing to help judy walk better and reach her goals. lets set aside all negative comments saying we dont trust him and lets see beyond that and help someone indeed. Thanks drinon and team for the awareness and i pray God will bless the works of you all hands and prsosper u all more than u all can imagine.

here is a link i took from their website so those who are skeptical about this initative will have an idea of the work that they do.

These are the people the PM should be looking out for. They are the ones that need the government houses, medical support and much more.

PM you give government help to people that do not need the help for your own selfish reasons, beause of this, you will not be blessed, you will continue not being happy.

Ahhhh what a sweet child. I pray she finds help pretty soon. What even pains me even more than her disability is the hunger issue, it was mentioned in the article but not at great depth.

When I hear of people going hungry in a country like Dominica it really begs alot of question about we as each others keeper. What really has gone wrong?

It`s funny how we Dominicans are so close minded and ignorant…

It`s funny how we Dominicans simply don`t read and understand..

It`s funny how we Dominicans don`t appreciate the good things.

It`s funny how we Dominicans throw away the good and pours down the bad..

I`m 18 years of age and by reading a few of these posts,it intrigues me how we Dominicans are so full of stupidity!

The moral of this Documentary is to seek financial and medical assistance for this young child and to bring about the untold and hidden stories of our next door youths in impoverish conditions ,not to benefit the producer. If we Dominicans had read the story,we could have simply seen that it is a proposed documentary:a mini version of the expected film. We should consider that with everything done in life, good or bad, there is a price to pay..The cost of film producing is very expensive, resulting in lots of expense and as a result by we assisting this young child it benefits both she and the producer..

with that said, below are a few questions that i would love,we Dominicans to answer:

    1. Had it not been for this young man, would we be aware of this child`s situation?

2.Do we know that she is not being ridiculed at school?

3.Had it not been for this young man, would someone else take the initiative?

4.Is he the only one in portsmouth and the environ that sees this child`s situation?

    5. Do we really think that she is his responsiblity?

COME ON DOMINICANS,WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT.
HELP A BROTHER ,TO HELP A SISTER.

  19. March 28, 2012

There is still hope for Dominica. A lot of us still have hearts so many are willing to help even if most of us live from hand to mouth. I dont have much but i am willing to give what i can. I have one little girl and we know how precious childen are.

Wow….First I saw a beautiful child, then I watched the video and I was blown away, amazed, how articulate she is. Then the narator asked some questions maybe hoping she would express hopelssnes to help the cause, but Judy just blew past that with a shoulder shrug saying she feels normal like anyone else but just would like to play & run with her peers. Oh how I was just blown away by the child. God bless you Judy, you are not alone, I willl contribute to the cause.

Judy, you are absolutely beautiful ! There’s nothing you can’t do!
    You’re Beautiful
In case you haven’t heard it lately, let me lean and whisper close…

    You’re beautiful.

Not because of the clothes you wear.

The number of candles on your cake.

The color of your skin or hair or toenail polish.

You’re beautiful simply because of this…

You are made in the image of God.

And there’s a part of who He is that we only get to see through you.

    Isn’t that a miracle?

You are a miracle, my sister.

You are gorgeous in ways that only eternity will fully reveal.

So stand tall, be who you are, smile that smile

and add your own kind of lovely to the world today.

I hope my comment wasn’t interpreted as people shouldn’t send money. I’m just suggesting that I’m more comfortable sending supplies as a personal preference and that an address or away to get those to the little girl would be nice . Only reason I mentioned siblings is that if there any close to her age they should be acknowledged as well. I guess I will contact the gentleman who filmed this for more info. Txs a bunch.

She is not ridiculed at school. The other children actually help Judy get up and down the steps. She feels left out yes because she cant run and play like the other children but they dont ridicule her. Some of the children may not always be nice but they dont pick on her at all. She is a determined little girl and with that determination she can reach where she wants to go. It is a good cause.

    March 28, 2012

It’s sometimes shocking to know that there are Dominicans still living in these conditions.

I think an account should be opened in her name and maybe another radio event can be done to help raise the funds needed to help this incrdible young lady.

I thank the people who bring awareness to the plight of our Dominican people and I offer them strength to continue in the face of adversity as people make negative comments about their intentions. You have taken the step to raise awareness, let us Dominicans get up, stand up and donate to the cause.

I find her amazing. Hope to see Judge Judy in the future.

  40. March 28, 2012

Despite some negative comments, the underlining factor is the child needs help, no need to castigate anyone, the fact is, can we all put our resources together to assist Judy? Drinnon has a very good heart, there are testimonies of his works in the community, so any film production is going to assist JUDY further. I must encourage you Bro. Drinnon, man, you are in the will of God, and I am proud for you and your team. You guys do not seek your own, but rather that of others. I am so thrilled reading this!!!

What kind of negative comments dat nuh? drinnon is Dominican, from portsmouth and yes i believe he going to use the money for the cause he say he will; but DNO that child does not go hungry, i know because i live close to that family;yes they are poor, they live in government house at chance, but to say she goes hungry, thats false, her mother works and her father is a fisherman; also the idea of she being ridiculed at school i dont fink so either,if it was so, knowing the mother she would have complained that matter to the school authorities… oh boy Dominicans…….. anyway i admire her aspirations, she is such a beautiful and nice little girl

Was wondering about the veracity of some of the comments, myself.

If she says children trouble her at school, who are you to say it’s not true? Are you saying she is a liar, we all know how children can be to others with disabilities. Most of them do not know better so they resolve to ridicule. And yes, she does go hungry sometimes, not to mean she does not eat, but not sufficient enough and nutritious enough. We can do a world of good by helping this young child reach her dreams. Her father is a fisherman yes, do you know what is his catch like, hmmm, guess you don’t. Living in such a poverish condition and living from paycheck-to-paycheck bound to make you go hungry sometimes. Think about it, and she is not the only child in the family, everyone has to eat and sometimes she may not get the adequate amount of food that her body needs. But believe me, her mother is trying her best. See ho she looks, she is being properly cared for, inspite of their demise. She just needs our help, badly too.

this story really touched me i always wish to just lay my hands on people who are disable and bring them to normal.Another thing that really touched me is the part that says she goes many days hungry with nothing to eat. Lord have mercy on this little princess if you lord can feed the sparrows on the hill top how much more will you take care of judy and her families father this little girl is in your care reach out to her lord.

@st.lucian not everyone in Dominica is well off trust me. We have our own ghetto living too. Not that we are proud of it but that’s life, some of us can have, some of us will have and continue to have and some of us have been trying to have and some of us just won’t make it. That’s life showing certain aspects of life in Dominica shouldn’t in anyway give the world the impression that you are implying

Are they going to used the profits from the documentary to help her and her family? Looks like he’s trying to use this lil’ girl’s condition for a profit. DNO when stories like Judy’s come out isn’t there a way you or someone responsible can set up a donation account. I don’t have much but I would love to donate some groceries, some books or anything I can to Judy and her family instead of that film maker.

Unlike some people in her I stand corrected. It’s just that I see too many people take advantage of kids and families like Judy’s. I would have preferred a donation account set up in her name but if this man is the real deal like you say he is then God Bless him and I will contribute to the cause. Thanks for the infor.

It is very sad for you to say that, this guy is trying to help and not make a profit. he is the same guy that looks for donation books and stuff for kids like her during school time for parents in extra need, he give himself and all he have for worthy cause i know she will get all the profit any extra would go to more worthy cause. he is trustworthy to donate stright to his foundation.

Drinnon will always use the profits to help Judy and her family. This is a young man who every summer asks for donations for school supplies to aid the less fortunate to give them so they can go to school. Visit Inside Possie and notice the good that he does
