Residents of Layou or persons traveling through the Layou area are being asked asked to take extreme precaution and pay attention for evacuation orders as Tropical Storm Maria gets closer to Dominica.
This was one of several recommendations made by government this morning during a special meeting with disaster officials, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said today.
Dominica is presently under tropical storm warning. This means tropical storm conditions are expected on the island within 12 to 24 hours.
The public should also take into consideration the following:
-All schools should close by 1:00 pm
-Fishermen should secure their boats and other fishing equipments
-Farmers should secure their holdings and take necessary steps to protect livestock
-Employers in the private and public sectors should consider sending employees in flood prone areas home
-Residents in flood prone areas should pay particular attention.
The community of Layou gained national attention when the Mattieu Dam collapsed earlier this year flooding the Layou Valley. Evacuation orders, if the need arises, will be given through the media.

am sure the prime minister did not mean bad. so what are u ranting about???
If is one time i must say the PM makes very little sense is today. He needs to be specific and speak like he knows what he is saying and what he is about.
He telling people to be on the alert for evacuation, seems like he wants people to evacuate in the middle of the storm and looks like the river will tell him when it going to overflow it banks. the present weather condition is enough for him to advice everybody to reamin inside and in a safe area. You can not advice people to wait for the storm to be on them to evacuate. It looks like boats and animals more important than people because he only advicing people in flood prone areas to be sent home or to be on alert. seems like he forgets Dominica is all hills and valeys and very prone to landslide too.
If he did not make a statement, you would say something else. heed the MESSAGE and forget about the messenger
