Leo CLub of Dominica celebrates 20 years

leo lionsIt was 20 years ago that the second chapter of the Leo Club of Dominica was chartered under the leadership of Lion Livingstone Cassell, as the then President of the Dominica Lions Club.

To commemorate this occasion, the club will undertake a number of activities commencing on Monday 8th September with a donation of reading books to the Goodwill Primary School, school supplies to the Orion Preschool on September 10th, guest night on September 11th and feeding program at the Grotto Home for the homeless along with the painting of the Morne Prosper bus stop on Saturday 12th September.

The day will end with an induction ceremony at Anchorage Hotel where five prospectives will officially become members of the Club. The week of activities will culminate with Church Service at the Coulibistrie Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, 14 September, 2014 the actually charter date of the Club. Members will then engage in a day of fun and socializing at Atlantic View Hotel in Anse De Mai.

Since the club’s charter on September 14, 1994, it has undertaken a number of community based projects and personal development session for its members. Among these are scholarships for secondary school students, feeding projects, mentorship projects for young persons, donations to elderly, needy and institutions which house elderly persons. The Club is most known for its organizing and hosting of the Annual Junior Calypso monarch Competition during the Carnival season.

The Club is led by a very able board of directors comprising of young persons of various walks of life under the leadership of Leo Shari Joseph. Members show pride in the Club’s activities and would like to thank the members of the business community and public who continues to contribute to their activities. This goes a long way in helping Leos make a difference to their communities.

The Club currently has 15 members and 5 prospective members. They meet every 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the Lions Den (Workshop for the Blind) on Federation Drive from 6:00 p.m. The age of membership ranges from 18 years to 29 years.

Lions clubs sponsor approximately 5,800 Leo clubs in 140 countries. While helping others in their community, Leos develop leadership skills and experience teamwork in action.     How do i join? When is the best time to join the club? And do i have to wait an entire year to become an official member if i join today?
