The Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) has expressed confidence that management at the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO) will hold on to staff there.
The DPSU has been meeting with the island’s sole water company to help it address financial problems after DOWASCO told staff it was considering sending some of them home and lowering the salaries of some others.
Thomas Letang, the DPSU’s general secretary, stated clearly he was not in favour of the job cuts and told DOWASCO that other ways must be sought to deal with its monetary issues.
“They told us that no definite decision has been taken on any of the proposals but I am confident that some of these things we have recommended will be considered favourably,” Letang said.
Staff at DOWASCO wore black arm bands when they were told that some of them could be sent home.
