LET’S TALK ABOUT…… Child Abuse

RECOGNIZING THE SIGNS AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE

CRIME STOPPERS DOMINICA provides a confidential crime reporting service that gives everyone the opportunity to report about any type of crime such as child abuse by calling 1800 8477 (TIPS) or by submitting a tip online at crimestoppersdominica.org.

CHILD ABUSE is the maltreatment of a child by his/her parent or caregiver that can result in injury, emotional harm and in extreme cases, death of the child. Child abuse can be Physical, Emotional or Sexual. Neglect is also a form of child abuse. By learning about the common signs of abuse and how you can assist through anonymous reporting, you can save a child’s life.

PHYSICAL ABUSE involves severe beatings, shaking, burning, biting, strangling

Warning Signs: Bruises, fractures, scars, burns, internal injuries, fear of being touched

EMOTIONAL ABUSE (Non physical contact) includes excessive criticism, threats, intimidation, rejection, exposing the child to violence or the abuse of others

Warning Signs: Low self esteem, withdrawal, shame, guilt, stress, fear, feelings of being worthless, detachment from parent/caregiver

SEXUAL ABUSE happens when an adult or older person engages a child in sexual activities:

  • Intercourse
  • Physical contact with the child’s genitals (even through clothes)
  • Indecent expose of one’s genitals to a child
  • Exposing a child to sexual material

Warning Signs: Difficulty walking or sitting, sexually transmitted diseases, having unusual amounts of cash, expensive gifts, unwanted pregnancy, injury, changes in school performance, promiscuous behavior

NEGLECT is a pattern of denying a child healthcare, education, nutrition, safe living conditions, love, support and supervision

Warning Signs: Drug abuse, changes in school performance/attendance, bad hygiene, untreated illness

WHY REPORT IT?

While many people are reluctant to get involved in other families’ affairs, child abuse is NOT merely a family matter; the consequences of turning a blind eye to it can be damaging to the child years into adulthood.

Reporting cases of abuse is important to help victims and stop the damages caused by child abuse situations. Reporting abuse simply means that an organization is informed and can help to remedy the child’s unfortunate situation. The earlier the victim gets help, the greater their chance at healing and by reporting abuse, you could help protect the child from continued maltreatment. If you suspect a child is being abused, it is critical to SPEAK UP.

HOW TO REPORT CHILD ABUSE (AND STAY ANONYMOUS)

Do you have information about a child abuse situation but are worried about being identified if you speak out? Crime Stoppers Dominica (CSD) makes it easier for you to break the silence around the mistreatment of children without your identity being known.

CONTACTING CRIME STOPPERS DOMINICA:

To report cases of child abuse anonymously, call Crime Stoppers Dominica at 1800 8477 (TIPS) toll free or submit a tip online at crimestoppersdominica.org. The call centre is located outside of Dominica and agents are available 24/7 to take reports.

The agents are only interested in the information you give, so you will not be asked to say your name. Your information will be dealt with sensitively, and then put into a report. The report is then transmitted to law enforcement who takes appropriate action.

PREVENTION TIPS:

We all know that taking a few precautions as part of our daily lives will lessen the possibility of our children becoming victims of abuse. Here are some tips to help improve your child’s safety and give you some peace of mind:

  • Parents should monitor their children’s online activities
  • Know the three “W’s”: WHERE your kids are, WHAT they are doing, and WHO they are with.
  • Children should not give personal information about themselves or their parents to strangers.
  • Children should never accept gifts or lifts from people that he/she is not familiar with.
  • Children should be taught to say, “Mum is not available to answer the phone right now.” They should never let a telephone caller know that he/she is home alone.
  • Do not allow your child to go anywhere with someone you do not know and trust.

What about the business of selling babies to the French from the Kalinago territory is this not child abuse and actually modern day slavery???????????

They try to give their children a better life and receive payment for it. The latter should be against the Law, selling babies. It is not as adoption. If the MP knows it, he should put a stop to it, the government in general.

The practice of circumcision goes back thousands of years to the time of Moses. It has religious significance very meaningful to the Jews. Not only is it religious. It has health benefits and is practiced by Gentiles. The pain is short lived and the wound heals quickly and well.

Some men choose to be circumcised as adults because it enhances the marriage relationship.

I know nothing about the sucking part of the rite and have not heard of it. I can assure you it was not part of the historical rite mandated by God through Moses for the Jewish people. It has absolutely no basis in
    the Jewish Bible (Old Testament.

Unless you want to interfere with freedom of religion (which would certainly be opposed by the Jewish community who would win and maybe sue) I advise you to change your stance because circumcision is not child abuse.

I would be the first to say this sucking should be made illegal. It is not of part of circumcision.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Children are the future adults. Those years fly. Their home should be a place where they could thrive happily.
Let the children be children. Teach them well. Do not spoil them but nurture them appropriately. They should be as happy as possible and be able to enjoy their home and the environment they reside in. Whatever befalls them will not be forgotten. It will remain an indelible mark on them for life, be it good or bad.

An excellent article on chid abuse. A great service to the public.

The public are still waiting for a law that makes reporting cases of – or suspected cases of – sexual child abuse mandatory. They also want a national convicted sex offenders registry. What about it :?:

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

The recent Amendment bill which introduced tougher sentences for rape and child sexual abuse and outlawed the new offences of voyeurism and grooming aslo introduced MANDATORY REPORTING. It is now illegal to know about sexual abuse and not to report it. http://www.dominica.gov.dm/images/documents/bills_for_review/Sexual-Offences-Amendment-Bill-2016.pdf
it says that anyone who ” has reasonable grounds for believing that an offence under this Act has been committed in respect of that minor, shall report the grounds for his or her belief to a police officer as soon as reasonably
practicable. (2) Any person who without reasonable excuse fails to comply with the requirements of subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine of thirty thousand dollars and to imprisonment for a term of five years”

        Tina Alexander:

THANK YOU for updating me regarding the mandatory reporting law.

I apologize for my comments where I implied that no such law had yet been passed. My statements did not do justice to those who have worked so hard in this field. I am sorry.

I read DNO every day and do not remember ever seeing that reporting a case of sexual child abuse had been made legally mandatory. I may have missed it. If so, again I am sorry.

I take this opportunity to thank you for the good work you and your people have done to
bring about needed changes to the laws and how the system works in Dominica.

One question lingers. Has the public been properly informed of the new mandatory reporting
law? I missed it and this troubles me. How many others do not know they MUST report to the police if they become aware of a child being sexually abused? What is being done to inform them?

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist. (Pastoral Counselor Certificate)

  5. Circumcision is Child Abuse
    January 9, 2017

Child abuse must be stopped in any forum in particular the ancient Jewish rite for the circumcision of babies.

In this ritual, after the skin of the penis is cut of the screaming child’s appendage, the rabbi covers the baby’s penis with his mouth and then sucks/ drinks the blood – vie link here: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=de2_1425012581

Jews say that this is for antiseptic purposes. However, in the USA, hundreds of male babies are getting sexually transmitted diseases from this despicable practice.

Circumcision in Dominica must be declared a crime against a child and stopped. We have no place for jewish customs which abuse and cause immeasurable suffering to babies.

    • The Truth Be Told

This originates from the Jewish custom. Circumcision could help prevent some diseases. If it is to be done, it should be done when the child is small. In this way he will not remember the pain and discomfort.
It will not prevent sexually transmitted disease. This does not mean the uncircumcised will not contract those diseases. You should read more about it.

        Sir,

It is the rabbi’s who are giving the babies herpes from taking the baby’s penis in their mouth and sucking it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2304793/Two-babies-stricken-HERPES-ritual-oral-blood-sucking-circumcision-New-York-City.html

When did the baby consent to this? Why should any baby have to suffer this kind of sexual assault and abuse?

You say that circumcision prevents STD’s? Who says that? There is no proof that is does and in any event, no child should be forced to have to have their private parts assaulted in this way.

I witnesses the procedure and it was truly horrible. A group of statanic looking men with robes, chanting around a small defenceless baby, then cutting his penis and then the rabbi slowly and salaciously performing the oral ritual.

Here you can see these world-class perverts abusing the baby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jygT275DLFk

        This MUST be banned.

The ancient law given from God to Moses for Israel was for a specific people (Israel) and for a certain time. Christians believe it ended when Christ was crucified. We are to live now by the New Testament.

However in the strongest possible language I wish to state that this practice of the rabbi sucking the penis was not part of the original rite of circumcision. It is not mandated in the Jewish scriptures (our Old Testament). It attracts a certain type of rabbis. It has no antiseptic value. Just the opposite. Babies have been infected by the rabbi. This is a sexual perversion. It
is appears to be an occult blood ritual of uncertain origins. It should be made illegal ASAP.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., Th.M.

      Sir or miss,

Circumcision done by a medical practitioner is no form of abuse at all. Do you agree?

      • Jeremy Lavie, MB BS (epidemiologist)
        January 12, 2017

If it is medically necessary. But there is no research whatsover that supports circumcision being something that should be routinely done to babies by doctors as it serves no medical purpose whatsover.

In the jewish tradition, it is an excuse for a satanic blood rite (as this rite is NOT supported in the bible, or Telmud) and to indulge in the perverse act of sucking a babies penis for blood and other fluids.
