Levi A. Peter, president of the Dominica Bar Association, is to be appointed to the post of Attorney General, which is vacated today by Franice Baron-Royer. Prime Minster Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement this morning on a DBS radio newscast.
Peter is a former magistrate and has been an attorney for several years. The PM said he was pleased with the selection, which is of course is subjected to the approval of the legal affairs committee.
He replaces Dominica’s first female, Baron-Royer, who leaves her position today. Her contract has expired and she has opted not to have it renewed.
Dominica News Online will bring more information on the appointment as it becomes available.

Last time I checked, our government is based on the Westminster System even if we are a republic with a President as Head of State. The Attorney General (AG) is an officer of the government. Our constitution even makes provision for a Member of Parliament (MP) to be appointed as AG (eg. the late Hon. Eustace Francis and Hon Ian Douglas). The AG represents the government, and by extension, the people of Dominica since the govt. is of the people, for the people etc.
Which country has its AG and other officers on the ballot anyway? Even the USA has its AG, (Holder), appointed by the President, subject to confirmation by the Senate, of course. States like Florida, for example, have elected AG, Chief financial Officer, Agricultural Commissioner etc. But do we have to complicate our electoral process by copying what foreigners do?
As far as I know, and I’m subjected to correction, the AG is not the head of our judicial branch.There is a Chief Justice who works with with a system of Appellate courts, High Courts, magistrates, lawyers and the Bar Association. So how can one man manipulate our legal system?
Show me your company and I will show who you are, especially with respect to political appointments.

I am also into social work and happy again to say I am praying for the Nation of Dominica against the foul languages etc and negative levelled at our country folks. Fortunately for her, a pweepwee was nearby and she got onbard hoping to hit dry land safely. I wish her well in her journey back to reality but she will be held accountable if she make it to dry land.

He committed murder and then you are asking to murder the one who has murdered. Committing another crime to correct a crime? Double curse. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord of Host. He is the only one who will Judge at the right time and in his own time. He has not asked us to help even if we have to punish the perpetraters of crime. He is merciful and whilst we have to punish those who commit those crime, we should not apply the death penalty. More blood shed attract more blood shed. Remember Saul in the New Testament. Firstly Mr Peters congratulations to you in your new position. I must advice you to seek the wisdom and understanding of the Heavenly Father when having to take decisions. Seek him first and remember that whatever decision you take, some persons are not going to like it and criticise you. Whatever remain focus and do what youar supposed to do. i cannot question you on the application of the Law since you are versed in such and I am not. Whatever you do should not be based on your own carnal feelings but on first the Heavenly Father’s commandments and the law/statutes of the land. You cannot please everyone.
To the other persons who cannot congratulate someone without being negative. You are acting Judge, Jury and Executioner. The only one who knows our heart is the Mighty Creator, the Great I am. Some of you just say things that you are not versed in. You know the man’s thoughts in and out; you know why he was appointed ; you know this and you know that; You know why he has been quiet and you know and you know and you know all. You know everyones mind and thinking – the PM’s, the leader of Opposition . The Commissioner’s , The Evangelists, the pastors and the list can go on an on. You judge and judge. you hand down sentence without even knowing the facts far less for the law. This one and that one. When will all of this stop. When all the instigation to confusion stop. Libel and Slander etc stop. You want to see persons do what you would like them to do in your own way and fashion. Where is the respect of the human being as and individual?
I like the persons who make objective criticism and give alternatives etc and reasons. It is time to educate yourself and get knowledgeable in the things you want to comment on. Also people you must start respecting all your Leaders – Spiritual and others. You use all kind of adjectives to describes persons. Respect the Heavenly Father first, then yourself and then you can respect others. You can say that you don’t agree and it can be done in a very respectful manner.
DNO is doing a very good thing by bringing the news as it happens. We must understand that other persons who are not necessarily Dominicans are reading our news and comments. What do we send out to the World. A people who are very disrespectful and always hurting our brothers and sisters.
On a final note, most of you who are criticising and using all those verbal abusive and foul languages, I am sure you are housing the leaders of tommorrow in your own homes (your children etc are the leaders of tommorrow),

History has shown that even though some lawyers or magistrates or whoever of ‘HIGH REPUTE’ appear to be genuine, once they immerse themselves with selfish, greedy politicians who lack integrity, honesty and use their Public Office for getting wealth illegally, they loose all sense of fairness. Frankly, Levi Peter will end up in that mold, mesmerized, manipulated and fooled as a big man. His main role, since he is now rubbing shoulders with the few seeking ‘ABSOLUTE POWER,’ will be to protect them in every way possible. Dominicans found out too late that Francine ended up protecting her Govt.and supporting many nonsensical things, instead of acting according to the CONSTITUTION to inform and protect the people There are many examples to prove that.
As President of the BAR, what advocacy did Levi come up with or input against the increase in crimes, illegal, criminal acts in Public Office or actions by politicians that made a mockery of our CONSTITUTION? Dominicans were pleading for one of them from the BAR to clarify certain issues which were of concern to them. No word … Nothing. Trust me. Business as usual… All part of protecting the FEW in POWER. NEW AG, Different PERSON, Different NAME, but same behaviour and attitude. The expected ROLE and MANDATE is to PROTECT THE FEW, those with wealth, money, assets with an unwillingness to change the STATUS QUO.

Why not present something factual then proceed.
Some cases that are won is due to better lawyering and some people having the funding to pay their attorneys.
Mrs. Dyer seems to be successful when she steps before the courts…..ever wonder why?
It is not due to any political interference….but it appears she commands a strong knowledge of the law and is persuasive in her arguments for her clients.
This is a man I KNOW and am CONFIDENT will perform his duties with moral rectitude, truth and righteousness. He will not abide in lies and corruption. That, Sir, is what I EXPECT of you. CONGRATULATIONS!
