Regional airline, LIAT, on Wednesday, said it has accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Office David Evans, effective April 13, 2016.

In a brief release, the airline Board of Directors said that Julie Reifer-Jones, Director of Finance and ICT, has been appointed CEO.

“The Board of Directors thank Mr. Evans for his service and wishes him every success in his future endeavours,” the release said.

Evans resigned just one year after Antiguan Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, called for his resignation after a plan emerged to collapse LIAT and form a new airline solely owned by Barbados.

LIAT is a failed venture, a business that should have been dissolved many, many years ago. The Caribbean Governments continue to keep this dying business on life support in spite of overwhelming evidence that it is in a deep coma!

History repeats itself. Mrs. Julie Reifer-Jones, a Barbadian previously acted as CEO of the airline upon the resignation of David Evans predecessor, Ian Brunton in Sept. 2013.
The 62 year Barbadian joined the airline as chief financial officer in June 2006 after resigning as a director and financial controller of U.K. registered Almond Resorts Marketing Ltd. ( i.e. Almiond Beach Rsort , Barbados) the preceding year. This failed company was finally dissolved. on 17 Sept. 2013. I sincerely hope for Julie and the company that this time she will be more fortunate and make it to her retirement without too many mishaps.

Every time we hear about a change at the top in LIAT , the entire caribbean breathes a collective sigh of relief in the vague hope that real change will come in the attitude of LIAT staff to their customers.
So far that sigh has rapidly turned to sobs of despair as nothing radical has changed in that attitude.
You think that , maybe, just maybe things will change. For the better? Please don’t do anything stupid – like hold your breath, while we all hope that, finally the LIAT board does ‘the right thing’ and give us a CEO that recognizes our ( the paying passengers) role in the success of LIAT.

Well said!! I hate LIAT with a passion!! They are so disorganized that every flight is an adventure full of frustration, anger and anguish.

When he assumed this position, he must have realized the incompetency and negligence which exists in operating LIAT, an airline which serves the Caribbean. He must have observed the mess but his hands may have been tied to effect any change. Therefore, he could not properly exercise his duties. One year of frustration.
Passengers who traveled with LIAT are aware that LIAT has never been reliable. I am no exception.
These days the cost of flying increased but not the service. What a mess and a shame LIAT!
Nothing lasts forever. LIAT will eventually collapse if it does not change its plans of decreased flights, not being on time and causing passengers to overnight and for days. They must personally bear the cost.
Another airline, a reliable one is needed for the Caribbean/West Indies.
Poor Dominica without an international airport. Its nationals are at the mercy of LIAT. Hope this will change someday.

Always predicting doom and gloom for LIAT. I have seen many airlines come and go but LIAT is there as constant as the northern star providing a necessary service. Of course there is room for improvement, improvement not only in management but in the volume of passengers especially travelling to and from Dominica.

“When he assumed this position, he must have realized the incompetency and negligence which exists in operating LIAT, an airline which serves the Caribbean.”( The Facts).

But Facts, how you so sot; how you dotish; how you fool so nuh?

What sort of in competency and negligence nonsense you are talking about existed in LIAT; dotish don’t you know the meaning of overhead (operating) expense is grater (>) than the annual revenue generated.

Note: this ( >) means greater than, and this one (<) means less than. Perhaps that will help you to understand it matters not who is head of LIAT it will forever operate at a loss, it will never be able to operate as a profitable entity. LIAT is doomed, the Airline has never been a profitable entity.

Dominica was one of the original share holders, Eugenia Charles withdraw from it because our investment in it never yelled any interest!

Anybody who invest in LIAT is a fool!

I beg to differ with your comment “Perhaps that will help you to understand it matters not who is head of LIAT it will forever operate at a loss, it will never be able to operate as a profitable entity.” Are you saying that top executives cant direct a failing company to profitability. It must be noted here that new executives are selected with hope of having fresh ideas. I believe with the right executives and management the current business strategies will be analyzed and formulations will be put in place to lead the company forward. Right now Liat needs to conduct a SWOT analysis and see how improvements can be made to better its cash flows and profitability
