Installation of Officers
On July 3. 2016 members of the Lions and Leo Clubs of Dominica met at Rodney’s Wilderness Retreat in Soufriere for the Club’s annual Installation of Officers Ceremony, which took the form of a brunch. The new officers for both Clubs took their oath of office to guide and lead the clubs for the 2016/2017 Lionistic year which begins in July and ends in June 2016. Lion Kevin Seaman will serve as President of the Lions Club while Leo Kernita Green will serve as the Leo Club President.
The ceremony also recognized the achievement of Lions and Leos during the past year and expressed congratulations to Lion Diana Angol who received the status of Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest award that can be bestowed to a member of the club at the recently concluded Multiple District 60 Convention in Trinidad. Lion Dwayne Seaman was also present as the Chairman of Zone 2C Chair with responsibility for overseeing clubs in the islands of Antigua, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat and Dominica.
The Clubs will be focusing on the Centennial Service challenges, some areas of focus as directed by Lions Clubs International with a view of brining the core areas focus for Lions into the fore as the countdown begins for the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Association.
Presentation to student of Roseau Primary School
On July 7, 2016, the Club presented a gift Certificate to the top student at the Graded Six National Assessment during the Roseau Primary School’s graduation ceremony. The presentation to Heimish Blaize was made by Lion Dorne Darroux, Vice President of the club, for his achievements at the exams. The Club has been undertaking reading programme for students at the Roseau Primary School for the past 3 years on a weekly basis for 2 hours every Thursday.
End of School Year Party for Bellevue Chopin Primary School
An end of school year party was organized by the Club for students of the Bellevue Chopin Primary School on Saturday, July 16, 2016 on the schools’ compound. The School is another pet project of the Club whereby it sponsors a wholesome snack for students of that institution every Tuesday or Thursday throughout the School year. The Project was initiated in January of 2015 and will be continued during the next school year.
Church Service with Leo Club of Dominica
Lions accompanied the members of the Leo Club at Church Service on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Roseau Christian Union Mission Church. This was the Leos way of beginning the New Year in a holistic and spiritual environment.
Workshop on Leadership hosted by Leo Club and Nature Island Toast Masters Club
The Lion President and Leo Advisor participated in a workshop on Leadership organized by the Leo Club of Dominica on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Prevost Cinemall. The workshop was facilitated by members of the Nature Island Toast Masters Club and sought to inform members of the advantages of good leadership skills and techniques and how to get members involved.
