One of Dominica’s longest surviving Sports Club, Sagicor General Somerset of St. Joseph has joined several other donors to make its own small contribution to the relief effort of three communities on the West Coast where villagers and residents have been severely affected by Tropical Storm Erika.

On Wednesday 9th September 2015, the Club donated 33 cartons of Loubiere Spring Water to these West Coast Communities. Eight cartons were delivered to Mrs. Merina Sebastien of Salisbury on behalf of the St. Vincent De Paul Society for distribution among the elderly, particularly the sick and shut in.

Fifteen cases were delivered to the Chairman of the Coulibistrie Village Council, Mr. Ericson Robinson, while a further 10 cartons were donated to Mr. Nagime George Chairman of the Colihaut village council for distribution in their respective Communities.

This donation was made possible primarily through the generosity of some senior members of the club who contributed to over 75% of the cost. Ambrose Sylvester, President of the 52 year old Somerset, said “it is indeed heartening that some members found it fitting to respond positively to the call and allowed the club to participate in such a worthwhile and humanitarian initiative. This is a clear demonstration of the maturity of the membership. We anticipate that with the assistance of some kind benefactors the club may be in a position to broaden the scope and content of its distribution as part of the relief effort in the near future”.
