Mahaut Police Station in deplorable condition sources say

The road leading to the police station

The Mahaut Police Station is in a deplorable state, police sources have revealed to Dominica News Online.

Among a litany of problems at the station are a clogged kitchen sink, lack of privacy, a stinking shower, poor road leading to the station, no flag pole for about five months, among others.

The sources said there is a security risk at the station due to poor lighting and the lack of a place to keep prisoners.

“Prisoners broke through the bars months ago and [it] has yet to be repaired,” the source said. “Also the prisoner’s toilet is not working. The single shower for the constables stinks … like a sewer at times another time like sulfur.”

The road leading to the station is posing a problem.

“At times we need to activate the 4WD or drive on the edge of the road,” the source stated. “People who come to make reports sometimes park on the main road because cars are unable to drive up there without a lot of difficulty or risk of damage.”

Privacy is a major issue with all officers using one barrack room designed for six men but there are only five beds. They use towels between beds as some form of privacy.

Additionally, there is only one room which serves as the charge office, dining room, and recreation room, all in one.

“Prisoner cells are too close to old charge office,” the source said. “Whenever prisoners are inside the smell is unbearable.”

There is only on television (brought in by an officer) and only one computer.

“Sergeant, corporal, and six constables all have to wait while one person is using it to do police files,” the source said.

The sources say they have been complaining about the issue for over a year now, and all seems to fall on deaf ears.

Dominca is a mess, Amazing island but too many issues present thats NOT and maybe will never be addressed.
As somebody else stated, if you cannot ensure that your emergency services are looked after dont expect them to look after the country, because they wont.
Sink and toilet…have they complained or they enjoy working like that??
DA (well the residents) have changed and not for the better…
    God HELP the island..

During my days at Goodwill School, we had the same issues. The toilets and sinks were constantly backed up and the bathroom smelled like a landfill. A clean toilet was an anomaly. Why? There was no full time maintenance personnel on site during the normal school day which began at 8am and ended at 5pm. The concept of general maintenance is “Foreign” to the Dominican Government, especially this one. That’s why all the garbage trucks broke down. It’s the same cancer that eats away at pretty much everything else on the island.

This may come as a total surprise, but I never knew Mahaut had a police station. Wow! The general rule of thumb is: Maintenance of most buildings is estimated at approximately 10%-15% of the total cost of the actual building annually. The same fate will befall the new apartments that are being given away freely, the national stadium etc. From my recollection, there are no government maintenance crews on the island that routinely maintain these facilities. They are constructed and then left to die life everything else in Dominica.

These are some of reasons why I stated Dominicans are selfish people. (Grown Men) are complaining the shower they use everyday is stinking, their kitchen sink is clogged. These are law enforcement Men. Who can’t clean their own shower and unclog the kitchen sink they use and maybe drop food pieces inn. These guys are not fit to be police men. If the complaining was about the road leading to the building and some renovations needed that’s understandable. These guys are lame.

One thing I find dno very bias with their reporting…
The budget for 2017 named mahaut as one of the stations to get attention…. The minister has said it as recently as wen he gave the police some new vehicles…. Where is the balance in the story ?
If dno had even contacted the authorities they would have gotten that simple answer…..

Government does no maintenance of their property. It has to reach to the point of ‘breakdown’ then something is done. This is DA for you

Preventative maintenance is a foreign concept for this government.

Exactly what I was thinking these guys only drinking beers and driving down Campbell road doing nothing, If i was Mr Rayburn, I would give a kick to each and every one of them up their back side instead of running and cry to DNO like girls blouse.

Laughable. so the police using the kitchen dont know not to pour food down the drain? And if it does NONE of them want to reach under the sink, unscrew the pipe to drain out all the old food and screw it back in? Laziness! These places are NOT poic stations. they are residential houses turned into the police quarters. The police themselves have a responsibility in maintaining the upkeep of their surroundings. You cannot keep the place like a pig sty and expect people top feel sorry for you. Minister of National Security, you need to ensure that your police are housed appropriately, this is also your constituency, so this is a double whammy for you Sir. Stop allowing mediocre and the bare minimum and thinking it is great news. Yes half a bread is plenty bread if you have none, but we know the government have just given away hundreds of thousands in the name of small business etc. where is money to improve our police stations, fire stations, ports of entry, etc.

So what is the commissioner doing about that? He is the head of department.

The safety and security of a country should always be the top priority. It’s therefore imperative that the powers that be provide the security forces with the adequate resources and training to execute their duties to the best of their abilities. How does one expect the police officers to function at their best in such deplorable conditions.? No decent minded citizen would query the use of CBI monies to rectify these abnormalities. This is shameful, egregious and a damning indictment on the present administration. No concerned or caring government would allow their Security Personnel to work under such appalling and obnoxious conditions.

Leave my darn PM and his ordained successor for now (Rayburn) in peace eh! The people that vote them into office not complaining so why allu doing so? Is not the police that complaining is the press because the police are very very very happy according to their chief. They even waiting for my PM to accuse some more people of plotting to overthrow him so they can arrest them pronto and charge them later for obstructing Insp. Mills while on radio performing his sucking duties.

I understand that government is responsible for most of the issues but complaining about a clogged sink and smelly bathroom is shameful. Clean the bathroom and unclog the sink.

As long as Rayburn gets his salary and continue to be “in consideration” to lead the DLP next election as planned he would careless about the Mahaut police station because is not Mahaut DLP people in there. But on the other hand thats darn good for the police because they are allowing the government to use them as DLP Militia so this time let me see how the chief will handle it.

Assertive like Mama Eugenia!

Rayburn Blackmoore, Minister of Security. This is your home town, your patch brother, You are an ex policeman yourself. Don’t let this happen, you would not live in these conditions in your own home, would you. You are also the Parl. Rep for this area. If you want people to continue voting for you, fix this!

Why should he wait till it reaches this point?

Wait for to happen then act?… This cannot continue, not in a country that needs to do a 180 on the way it works.

This culture of procrastination needs to stop…

I also don’t care for police though… I don’t see the point of them.

The citizens are better at their job than they are.
