Mayor of Roseau clears air on alcohol stealing allegations

Joseph

“I didn’t steal any wine from the President’s party, I didn’t steal any beer from the president’s party, if anybody has that notion I think that’s a very dim notion,” Mayor of the City of Roseau Cecil Joseph has been telling Dominica News Online.

It has been making the rounds and the allegation even found itself in one of the 2012 calypsoes, that Mayor Joseph “stole” some alcoholic beverages from the President’s Independence Anniversary party last November.

Asked about that matter on Wednesday by Dominica news Online, Mayor Joseph wasn’t keen to respond to what he considers politically-motivated mischief making, and an attempt to sully his name.

But he agreed with DNO that it was necessary to clear the air on that matter.

It appears to be popularly accepted that the allegation of theft of drinks has some merit.

However the mayor says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“You know Dominicans – how could you go to an activity and steal the drinks,” Joseph said in dismissing the claim.

He told DNO that the bartender who served him, can testify that he Joseph didn’t grab any drinks without permission, but that he requested a number of drinks that were handed over to him.

Joseph,  who told DNO he does not drink alcohol, said he request the drinks – one bottle of wine and three beers – and then  “handed those same items to people who were at the function that saw about us, and I have no qualms about that”.

“The barman knows for a fact that I requested, and he knows that he took his hand and gave me the drinks,” the mayor reiterated.

“It’s really a shame to know as a people that we will try to bring down the names of people because of quote-unquote political motive,” the mayor concluded.

Your worship the bartender on a show held by matt peltier on Q95 said he gave you a box and you took the drinks by passing behind him and grabbing the alcoholic beverages. Is he being untruthful? I was not there but given the context I will definitely take his word over yours. You do not drink so where were you going with them?

For an individual of your stature you should have known how to conduct yourself in such situations; have what my 92 year old mom refers to as “brought-upsy”. This should be a wake up call for you as well as others who are in positions of influence. Finally, please remember these lines of a song by Bob Marley:”the truth is an offence but not a sin”

    And let this issue rest!!HOTEP

i find that fishy. you demanded the drinks and they were handed to you? you dont drink? then the question that i ask myself and i am sure dominicans want to know: dont the people who were with you have tounges in their mouths? couldnt they demand their own drinks? i thought that at a party u drink glasses of wine, then why did you demand a bottle of wine? THIS IS TAX PAYERS MONEY THAT PAID FOR THE PARTY. you could use your discression. some things just not adding up.

Cecil let the calypsos run, we donot need an explanation from you. Why you had to ask for drinks for people can’t they ask for it themselves. The bartender said on Matt show that you took the drinks yourself, the only thing he gave to you was a box. You mean embarassing yourself to ask for drinks for guys..ha..ha..ha, come better Cecil. Hello Christmas was around the corner maybe the mayor was starting to collect his drinks.

the ‘water gut’ in Roseau. If this is news worthy well i tell u we will just remain
stagnant while other countries make strides
and live us behind. This is 2012. Let’s
    move our country foward.

Mr Mayor, There are so many issues facing the city council, yet you can find time to address an issue thats dead, guess the calyosoes made the issue raised its ugly head, pl find some time to have the city cleaned up, you need to speak to senior counsel to advise him on bringing down peoples name.

THEM FELLARS DIDN’T NOT INVITE STRONG SUPPORTERS OF THE UWP OR FREEDOM PARTY.I BELIEVE BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR POLITICAL COMMENTS,LOOK CLOSER HOME.I AM FURTHER CONFUSED,IF YOU DONT DRINK GROG,WHY WERE YOU REQUESTING BOTTLES OF GROG WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE WAS GIVEN THE DRINKS IN GLASSES.DNO SHOULD ALSO INTERVIEW THE BARTENDER,BECAUSE HE SAID THAT CECIL WENT INSIDE OF THE BAR AND ARRESTED THE GROG.

    • lol
      January 19, 2012

He presented evidence against himself when he paid the drinks and was receipted. Would he now go to court and embarass himself for the sake of a few drinks. And geez, I’m sure these did not come up to 500USD to be getting all this attention. Your worship having himself in the news for say 100$ worth of alci. I mean, things in D/ca are not that!

How can it be politically motivated when he was the one who opened his big mouth and give Carlilse Jno Baptiste of all people a full-length interview. Nobody forced you to blajeh and give Carlisle the whole run-through.

That story might have died a very quick death hidden in the pages of the dim Sun Newspaper if not for your expansive explanation on the record.

So, Cecil you walked right into that one all by yourself. Doh blame politics for that one. So you didn’t remember calypso season was coming up den?
