As efforts continue to protect the Mountain Chicken in Dominica a number of local companies have decided to give a helping hand.
MG Concrete Tools Rental, BrightLight Marketing, DEPEX Colour Lab and Books Plus have supplied 50 shirts with print for a Mountain Chicken Hike carded for Saturday from Bellevue Chopin to Soufriere Hot water.
The hike forms part of an overall campaign to protect the amphibians and create an awareness of the Mountain Chicken Project.
The project began in 2005 under the auspices of the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division in collaboration with the Zoo-ology society of London with grant funding by Darwin Initiative.
The Mountain Chicken or Crapaud, is facing serious survival challenges since the arrival on the island of a deadly fungal disease called the amphibian chytrid in 2003.
Eighty percent of the species was wiped out by the disease within 18 months.
The project is aimed at ensuring the long term future survival of the Crapaud in Dominica. This is being done through captive breeding, monitoring the remaining wild populations of Crapaud and other amphibians and ultimately reintroduction of the captive Crapaud back into the wild.
Those wishing to participate are asked to gather at the Botanical Gardens at the parrot area from 6:30 a.m. where transportation will be provided to Bellevue Chopin, and from Soufriere back to Roseau.
Good job. Continue the great work. Hats off to DNO for sharing that story
I hope these efforts will provide effect.
