New facility to house at least 200 police officers says Blackmoore

Police officers in Dominica

Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, has revealed that plans to construct a new facility to house a minimum of 200 police officers in Roseau are underway to aid in improving accommodation.

Speaking on the radio show ‘Focus on Government and Development’ on Thursday, June 29th, 2017, Blackmoore said that a possible location has already been identified.

“We are looking at the big plan to improve, to reconstruct certain segments of the Police Headquarters building and to construct a new facility to house a minimum of two hundred police officers and we have already identified a possible location where a three-story building can actually be constructed,” Blackmoore said.

According to him, there is a need to seriously consider the accommodation of police officers, and so, designs are already being put together as the Ministry of National Security, and government by extension, seeks to “augment the police strength.”

In addition to this, focus is also being placed on the Fire and Ambulance Department and repair processes are in an ‘advanced stage’ for the Headquarters in Roseau for fire officers, Blackmoore noted.

“As we have the whole situation where we are training additional fire officers, the usual space in housing these fire officers are very important. As we have the expansion of our various districts, mostly in the city of Roseau, we are going to deal with the whole issue of more appliances like trucks; we are going to have to look at having to design maybe a new building, a new facility as we are doing for the police,” Blackmoore said.

He noted too that in the next financial cycle, Grand Bay is going to see repairs made to their fire station.

“…Also looking at buying a bigger truck for Grand Bay, which is going to cost something like well over $80,000. We are going to buy it, we are going to make a down payment for a new fire truck for the airport at Melville Hall, almost $2-million because this thing has to be built from scratch,” he said.

Blackmoore remarked that the manufacturing of this fire truck for the Douglas Charles Airport, which began in March, will be completed in the next 13 months, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China will be providing ‘additional vehicles for the fire department.’

I find the government to be a reactive rather than proactive in many if not all decisions making policies. The minister also f national security who is an ex police offices should have seen the need to improve the police head quarter many years ago. Lots of memories monies continue to be given as handout rather thank improve if not construct new facilities.
Many of the government buildings are in a dilapidated condition and I believe all should be considered immediately.
Stop the handout mr PM and instead concentrate on the bigger issues which is infrastructure.
There is monies available so please stop wasting in the attempt to buy votes.
Let the ppl see you are performing seriously in the interest of all Dominican through constructive development.

Dominica, was designed on the plantation style system. Roseau is the main house and the surrounding villages serves as huts for the slaves. That’s the main reason why we have these problems in 2017. No vision or foresight was ever given to remainder of the island. If you look at Portsmouth, the second town, there is so much missing from this area. Only now, Skerrit is considering the construction of a governmental building to provide services to the people of Portsmouth and its surrounding environment. Meanwhile, the Labor bosses are traveling all over the place, lining their pockets and building their mansions. When you’re able to fool a large percentage of people with free cement and plywood, what do you expect will happen.

It’s the dreaded customs duty they calculated into the cost. Customs duty is shamefully too high. As a result people must steal and cheat their way thru s includes he rich and well off people who can afford, it’s Dominica’s way of life.

Instead of having separate locations in Roseau why don’t you build one facility to accommodate police and firemen and release the burden on the finances

So what a building to house at least 50 vagrants? As A reader said, the Andy Carbon murder will just blow away. Dominicans, do not let it pass that way. Insist on housing for vagrants.

Even giving the police good housing which they deserve, however refusing to put boots on the ground crime and lawlessness will continue.

Such an incoherent, garbled, political propaganda message from the minister.Just we’re is this all heading?
200 police officers in Roseau yet we are lucky to see six on the streets other than end of the month vehicle checks.
A clue less government making preparations for a declaration of what?

A mentally ill person stabbed a man to death in good hope last month the village people call the police, for help, the police stated that they had no vehicle to respond to the scene , that was before the guy stabbed the innocent man on his way to work to feed his family a law abiding citizen, the police has no equipment to work with no radio communication, no pepper spray, nothing, just that little stick from British colonial past , they was offered 0% 0% during there negotiation process meaning no raise for the police, there for no crime will be solved till they get there well deserve respect, so go ahead and say you build stations you not fooling me maybe the people wearing RED ,but not me I wear neutral colors I am Dominican.

Remember all you police, that your job is to protect the citizens of this Country, and not just a few members and heads of government. Remember that. Exercise your duty with conscience at all times; Even when it may cost you your job. We as citizens expect nothing less from you all. It’s not head of government money that’s paying your salary; But rather, it’s the poor tax payers money that’s paying you in order so you could carry out your responsibility in supporting your family. Keep that always in the back of your head. When, and if asked by your superiors to engage in any action (s) which is against the constitution of Dominica (for which some leaders have no respect) or against your God given conscience you should not carry out such duties. Just remember that you are not serving a “man,” but the citizens of your beloved country. I pray for God’s protection upon your lives as you embark on such a dangerous profession. May God bless our lovely Island of Dominica. Amen

We were told that the last police academy the Capital city of Roseau would be flooded with police officers, we are still waiting, no nite patrol which would have prevent the Muslim store robbery, and Andy” death where are they ? the police sir, mr Cabon?. come off your air-condition office and talk to the people who are paying your salary sir, and tell them your plan in solving the rash of unsolved murders, that your police are not able to solve even when they have all the information sir, the one in Newtown, the guy in pte Michel who got shot 3times, the prisoner from pte Michel who is sleeping at his mother’s house every nite, and no arrest, if a prisoner escape in Amerikka all law enforcement agencies would be out looking for them, so I ask you Cabon , and the warden what are you guys doing to capture him?

One finds this communique from the Honourable Minister to be very garbled, hasty, and premature. The site identified is still a ” possible” site, but designs are already being put together? “We are also going to deal with the whole issue of more appliances, like trucks”. Looking forward!

It’s becoming VIOLENT, poorer and politically wobbly, DA meets most people’s definition of a banana republic. -The irony is she no longer produces marketable bananas for export. With this weeks announcements by Skrit’s followed by No-Sideburns Blackmore or less it has become clear to all & sundry even those with insommia that we are approaching desperation mode by this so called administration. Strengthening the police in addition to what we have already experienced is indicative. But let me just remind the those idiots so called leaders the time is at hand. Just remember a president was bundled out of the presidential palace in his pyjamas and put on a military plane to Costa Rica. remember DeGasson?
