Tuesday is Nomination Day for Kalinago Chief as the country’s indigenous people prepare to head to the poll to elect a chief.

“What is taking place today is nomination for Carib Chief and the polling date itself for that election is carded for July 7th 2014,” Local Government Commissioner John Fontaine told DNO.

He said persons in the territory who feel that they have leadership skills and they can make contributions towards the development have up till 4:00 pm to present themselves for nomination.

“There’s a process,” Fontaine noted. “There’s a returning officer and other staff appointed by the Electoral Office. Forms are completed and by 4:00 pm it’s over. And so if there’s more than one candidate, then definitely you will have an election.”

Former chiefs Irvince Auguiste and Charles Williams, present chief, Garnette Joseph and newcomer Jumadine Frederick were nominated.

The poll for the Kalinago Council will be held on July 28 and Nomination Day is on July 15, 2014.

Some of us Dominican who are not kalinagoes or those who are aware of the truth should not make statements if we are not sure of the facts, more than that we do not live in the Territory, some of us only comes when we want something from our relatives living there to feel the pain of the Kalinago people. We must first of all have the fasts and figures straight before we say any thing at all.
The health facility for a fact is a dream come true of this present chief and it took this same chief to return as chief to have the facility completed and officially opened to the residents and mark you it is well equipped through his efforts and the Church of the Nazarene and donor agencies. The C.D.B. just completed projects written with his efforts and push to have these projects completed after fourteen years. Scholarships to Kalinago primary students, from Sineku, Bataca and Salybia. Forestry projects, Community radio station – finally the license has been approved and many more. So get the facts correct before making any negative statements. This man has worked, development is not just money, money money. Look at the other side of the coin. We want continuity from this present chief. He may not have done everything as he would like to do but Hate a dog as you want but tell that dog that his /her teeth is white.

You most certainly made the point, we have to get the facts straight before just bla, bla, ing; for your information you should ask the contractor Mr John who finished the clinic,
How did the clinic get furnished, with help from S M P, and yes the nazarine church did assist but some of the funds came from C F L I, and was channeled through the Nazarene church, when chief Williams was in office the keys was sitting in his hand for over a year waiting on central government to adopt a lease agreement to use the clinic for the district, what is bad is that Chief Joseph gave the government a free lease when this same government bluntly refused to give one cent towards the construction of the clinic and they dubbed it the private clinic. so what are you trying to say?

Sorry, Charles is NOT a peopl’e’s person. He see’s things from the eyes of Charles Williams ONLY!!Sorry! Jumadine Frederick for Kalinago Chief!!! Time for new blood.

Unfortunately your statement is very misleading, Charles is the one person that fits in any home of the kalinago Territory, when he take a stand he takes a very principled stand and is not afraid to stand by what he believes is right in the interest of his people, that is the quality the other candidates do not have, that is why you people are afraid of him, when you are right you are right, so too when you are wrong you are wrong; and he is very easy to read because he never hide behind the scene, like the other two former chiefs

I do not like how permission is given by the chief for all sorts of foreign churches being set up in the Kalinago Territory…dividing the Kalinago people more

You know; just to reflect, cant you remember who was shaking shoes for chief Joseph when he won the last election, which church supported his candidacy, which church he preaches in, the pastor was nicknamed “chief”

  8. Kalinago in Roseau
    June 10, 2014

i do not understand why he was voted out in the first place, he had such a great mark of success, the first time kalinago People enjoyed full scholarship from a prestigious English speaking university, assisted farmers with fertilizer, raised funds to finish the clinic that his predecessor started, organized the university graduates who wrote the Chavez project for U S $10 million, While he and Dr Corbette started the Carib Territory Community Capacity project valued at E C 8.5 Million dollars; all this and more, while his Councillors were at odds with him throughout the entire term ,
I consider this man to be among the greatest of all chiefs.

The scholarship from UWI was not negotiated by Charles Williams. Beckles himself acknowledges Chief Hilary Frederick when he speaks of his Kalinago connections. Chief Williams activated the program and pretended its his own personal gift, making sure to give his both daughters it first, and criticizing students who came back, saying they did not come and thank him. All the scholarship required was Council stamp to say that the person is Kalinago. It is also because of conflicts he started that the Venezuela fund did not come through. His style of leadership and wanting to control everything, like he is master of all trades. He was unable to work as a team player and his council revolted against him countless times. Government officials couldn’t work with him either.

Tell us when Hilary when Hilary Frederick last left office, tell us when was the scholarship got into action, and yes you people do not have gratitude, if i was Charlo I would wait for your turn and perhaps you should check with the N B D to prove where Charlo may be the only kalinago man stood behind his children as a man, DO LIKE HIM TOO.
As to the Venezuelan fund get your facts straight, amend the Carib act, so as to use land for co lateral, to put in the hand of an N G O, what do you know Charlo way above the rest.

We need revolutionary mind like Charlo to run things, not weak people just going with the trend, how do you expect to come out of poverty when we are just sitting waiting for grubs to fall from the table so that we can jump over it .
        Charlo is the man!!!

clearly you have no respect and regard for people who are helping you, just look at how you are addressing these two noble men who have contributed so much to your personal life , you on your own would not have had the opportunity to have a university education had it not been for the same Mr. Charles Williams and Dr. Sir Hilary Beckles, Pro vice Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill Campus of the U W I, i have the utmost respect for both of these noble men and i am asking that you swallow your pride and give them both the respect they deserve.

Looking at those nominated so far i think former chief Williams is the most suited candidate to take us through for the next 5 years, he is honest, fearless and is able to represent at all levels, this man do not mix words irrespective who he is addressing, i like him.

i am not kalinago.but why on earth would a carib chief work for any party and not for the passionate intrest of his people?
