NSG ‘pleased’ with progress on West Bridge Project

Work progress during the week of July 18
Work progress during the week of July 18

NSG Management and Technical Services, Ltd. (NSG), would like to update the general public in Dominica on the work for the New West Bridge and Retaining Wall Project which is currently ongoing.

NSG are pleased with the progress on works towards the completion of a new West Bridge, and an improved water channel and surrounding river defence infrastructure.

Between May –June 2016, a substantial amount of work was completed. The utilities which previously were located on/over the bridge were relocated, and a traffic diversion plan executed including the erection of signage and sensitization of the new route with the public.

Packages for significant portions of proposed works were sent out to interested parties and NSG continues to work with local vendors and suppliers. In collaboration with a local contractor, the demolition of the West Bridge was completed on schedule.

Currently, the focus of works is based around the building of a protective berm on site now to shield the construction and this work should be completed the weekend of July 23rd.

The local contractors selected for this important phase, which includes the construction of the wall and the bridge work, should commence work on these elements within the next two weeks and most of the critical materials required for the project have commenced delivery.

The dredging work has been initiated and a substantial amount of material has been removed from the river, and is already facilitating a better water flow.

This current stage includes the final removal of the properties within the site limits. This is to allow the final demolition of buildings negatively impacted, which will also allow works to be completed on some of the more critical dredging areas near the EC Loblack Bridge.

Certain buildings including the badly damaged Berean Church have already been removed.

The support from local suppliers and contractors and the truckers has been outstanding and we welcome the interest of the general public on this important project as the Government of Dominica seeks to upgrade the infrastructure to protect Roseau and environs.

NSG are pleased with the progress to date and look forward to the continued smooth progress on the project. NSG apologizes in advance for any disruption to the travelling public and we shall strive to ensure an on-time or earlier completion to minimize impact at all times.

I can’t be negative but can’t help observing it takes a foreign company to get some local contractors to build a very short-span bridge in Dominica. I sincerely hope what this co brings to the table involves some adequate protection for the town. There’s got to be something tangible to it in this scenario. Wow Nsg you big in the politics.

:?: The people of this island continue to prove and how weak and coward they are and can’t stand for their rights! I wanna see how far they gonna allow this prime mistake and his rogue government to go unpunished, whether they gonna await until the prime mistake literally and physically hold them in their throats to die!? We foreigners can come to this island and do as we please, once we buy the rogue government that these people allow to rule them! As for the people, all we have to offer them is a drink and those who smoke their smoke, and we have their brain! What a backward useless people, they love a prime mistake and political party more than themselves! After the bridge is complete,we’ll give you all a party of music, drinks, smoke and rotten junk chicken to eat and then we’ll be gone with the money and leave you all quarreling in poverty!

a simple repair to the small hole on the retaining wall by the school in 2015. would have kept the integrity of the wall that was there in the first place, but george orwells PIGS were too busy pushing cream and milk down their FAT FACES to do the BARE MINIMUM so that we would not have this huge bill on our backs being funded by passport money… dno…Im developing my own website..NO TEXT just pictures…picture pictures pictures pictures, cuz me self tired talk….if the blind people clearly cant identify what are our priorities we might as well put it on blast for the world to see… maybe the EMBARASSMENT will get their heads out of their …. a stitch in time saves nine… or in this case 18 million!

What about our local contractors like Steve and Leblanc, they deserve a chance to build their country, Bajans would never hire a Dominican contractor in Barbados, this is WRONG!

This young man the Prime Minister of Dominica makes the wrong decisions all the time, I believe he is driven by a force or forces greater than him, and that is not good. This man was told to build a Bridge by the market so his superiors can get money into their pockets and he did just that. Now he wasted money to break down a working Bridge which could be used as a FootBridge to Potters’ville and lower Goodwill.
We can now see not one of the Ministers have put up a resistance to the 18 millions of dollars to be spent on a replacement Bridge when all this money could be spent into repairing and building new roads. We know by now if any one of these spineless Ministers did they would have been gone by now, for he have to please the FORCES. It is faster to build a Bridge than to build Roads, for the kickbacks will be coming in quicker. Speak up Dominicans you have the POWER. Don’t let the outside Forces control your destiny. LAVAY DOMNICHEN LAVAY.( Ras moe told us so a long time…

All the so cal l ed “haters and Nayers” are asking for is for good governance, transparency and accountability. There are issues with the awarding of contracts without proper bidding there are many capital projects taking place without planning approval and without parliamentary approval. If you can’t see anything wrong with that then you my friend and others like you are the true haters of democracy and good governance. It’s like the teachers in society drawing attention to the wrongs of your children behaviours and you saying because they hate your child thats why they are saying that what a pity. Poor Dominica.

    Well done.

Everyone becomes and engineer and a architect whenever these articles come up. Dominicans are experts at everything that includes giving an opinion because there is money involved.

No wonder there is a parrot on the flag.

So much for all the talk – ALL THE MONEY LEAVING DOMINICA”.

Breaking down a functioning bridge to build another while the people of Rose Street and surrounding areas continue to suffer with a pothole filled street. Sick country! Gov’t unable to maintain some roads but spending millions on hotels and an already functioning bridge.

If a bus load of people had gone down before the bridge was removed, every body would blame the Govt. While u were walking across the already functioning bridge weren’t u feeling it was shaking?

Beb, then it proves the incompetence of this govt if they allowed citizens to use bridge up to the day before it was broken down knowing their lives were at risk.
