Paix Bouche Constituency gets $1.9-million for housing repairs

The checks were presented on Tuesday

Three checks, totaling $1.9-million, were on Tuesday presented to the Paix Bouche, Calibishie, and Bense-Anse de Mai-Anse Soldat village councils for home repairs in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

The Paix Bouche Village Council received $640,800 and will benefit 83 residents; the Calibishie Village Council received $972,000 which will benefit 92 villagers, while the Bense-Anse de Mai-Anse Soldat Village Council received $303,500 to benefit 35 members of the communities.

“As you would know that 95 percent of the housing stock in the entire country was impacted by Hurricane Maria,” Roslyn Paul, MP for the Paix Bouche Constituency said. “And the communities of Paix Bouche, Bense Anse de Mai, Anse Soldat, Calibishie, no less, we had our fair share. We were devastated just like every community in Dominica, particularly in housing.”

She added that close to $1-million has already used to address housing issues in the constituency.

“We have already disbursed just under $1-million between February and now that benefited 91 persons across the three communities,” she stated. “So work in ongoing. I also would want to thank the contractors because some of our contractors are working very quickly, particularly those who for a reasonable price have put up homes for the vulnerable people, the displaced senior people particularly.”

Paul said housing continues to be a priority for the government of Dominica.

“We need to ensure that we put people back under their roof, to ensure that they are secure, they are safe, that we can get rid of the tarpaulins, we can get rid of the temporary roofs that were put on, some of them are still leaking…” she stated.

She added that the Paix Bouche Constituency will be benefiting from the 1,000 homes promised by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Last year, just before Maria Skerrit was on a similar mission distributing monies through his agents, village councils. I remember saying on this medium that I didn’t want Skerrit’s money and warned Dominicans that Skerrit’ money would not be enough to pay for their funerals and repair their house and we saw what happened. While I know we all need money to repair we still need to remember that God is our source and not Skerrit, the vote buyer. His money, regardless the amount is not blessed. This time take his money but let’s all vote him out so we could reverse the curse on Da! Election is around the corner and the man is on a mission just as he was in 2013, when it was alleged that he spent $32 million dollars to buy votes and at the end he still stole the election. The Grandfond Constuency is a reminder to us. Mr. Ivor Stephenson I wish you speedy recovery. I expect Skerrit to dump more money this year to decieve voters. He said he is going to dump over $160 million on airport

Some of the criticism leveled at Skerrit are unfounded. I remember traveling from Roseau to Melville Hall and listening to people complain about the improvement that were made to the roads. They were complaining that Skerrit was highlighting the improvement made to the road, that ‘one could not eat good road’. Here I was aapreciating the fact that we did not have to backup to let another vehicle pass, like when is was 30 years ago, a marked improvement. Here is my point; there has to be some method of measuring the success of what is being done. The difference that this money being handed is making in peoples lives has to show tangible results. That is my problem with politicians in Dominica; a sense of accomplishment seems to be missing. The monies being invested in agriculture should show an increase in production as measure by some agreed upon method. There is a saying “what gets measured gets done”. Goals should be clearly defined and highlighted when they are met.

I have been in politics since in the days of EO Leblanc and boy to be honest with you, I have NEVER seen any government, any business place or organization hand over monies to any one in a BIG BROWN ENVELOPE, that is addressed to no one. I usually see officials hand over a cheque made payable to whomever, with the stated amount and signatures. Government handing money to local government in brown envelope, without name and address? Make it worse DNO telling us Paix Bouche envelope had $640,800, Calibishie Village Council got $972,000 and Bense-Anse de Mai-Anse Soldat Village Council got $303,500? DNO you not tired of letting Skerrit make you look bad with the news items you reporting to the world? DNO you shaming me man at least you should make them put out those cheques so your readers could see man. DNO my grand father told me that I should not carry anything for anyone without seeing what I carrying and you in the 21st century publishing skerrit’s propaganda that u cant verify?

So why are they not putting out the name of people whose house got damaged and the amount each person getting so we could all see with our eyes? Their should be some level of transparency man. I just hope that when a real government comes in power they investigate all of these evil works of darkness and hold somebody accountable because with the amount of money Skerrit has distributing Dominica no doubt could be on same level with at least St. Lucia, if not Antigua. Boy Skerrit touching money wii boy. Where money coming from is a big big mystery. It’s been alleged that since February Skerrit has sold over 650 passports, more than the amount St. Lucia, Antigua, Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis sold combined. After Maria I remember the PM of Antigua said he was going to sell Antigua passport cheaper so he could get enough money to rebuild Barbuda and he also said Dominica was making over six hundred million USD on passports each month. So Dominica should be much better off man

Boy let me live America and come to Dominica where money is flowing like the waters of Layou River tan. Roselyn and Skerrit spreading money as though they printing money in Dominica and I there working my butt out to send barrels to people thinking they struggling. It reminds me of when Skerrit, just before Maria was on a mission spreading money around as he was preparing for the election that Maria forced him to postpone. If memory serves me right I remember sometime in January 2017, he gave some $400,000 to Paix Bouche and Dosdane, which I guess got smoked. One thing I not going to take my money to build house and pay insurance for coverage because Skerrit has established that he is the builder and insurer of houses in Dominica. So insurance company might as well shut down because Skerrit will run them out of business, except NAGICO, New India and First Domestic that are owned by close friends of Skerrit and some even alleged there is special love 4 First Domestic via Tongue

This is the worst mistake ever. I see only people tied to the ruling political party getting funds disburse to them. Some of those people in the picture look like they have no place in managing hence being in charge of the disbursement of monies on that level. Measures need to be place to have qualified people over seeing this process and making sure it is used towards the better good/intent. What happen to China, all the association Dominica has gained with them why arent they on the ground restoring the infrastructure of the country. It saddens my heart to see this foolishness

Sister Alicia, who helped found the Credit Union movement in Dominica, had a motto which said, ” Where there is no vision, then the people perish” or words to that effect.

My main criticism of Skerrit’s Government, is that they have no vision of where they want Dominica to be in say, 2 years, 5 years and 10 years hence.

No one can fault Skerrit for laziness. He was the first man up after being rescued at his home. I listened ton him that night in September 2017. He went out and sought foreign aid. He tried to encourage the people with speeches to be neighbourly etc.

What he lacks is a vision to refloat the economy, with the country exporting more agricultural products and bringing the people prosperity.

The drain on the treasury cannot continue. Money for capital projects cannot be used to pay revenue expenditure.

Dominica needs self sufficiency in food. Then it needs to generate a surplus for export. We needs boats to export and fish, and to facilitate transport…

Mr Skerrit would have been dammed if he did not, just as he is being dammed by giving the money. I do not support any political party. This is possibly the fairest way to distribute the cash.

My main criticism is that that, what we should be trying to do, is to make the country as a whole more self sufficient in terms of feeding itself without any imports. To that end Mr Skerrit might be advised to take a trip to Rwanda, and see what Paul Kigali is doing. He is encouraging animal husbandry. Poultry, Sheep etc,

If we can make each and every Dominican family, self sufficient in Meat, Milk, Chicken and lamb and Pork, then at the next hurricane, we will not need so many “supplies”. Self sufficiency breeds resilience in people, and resilience breeds prosperity.

If you are listening Mr Skerrit, you would do well to look around at your peers in Africa, China and India. We can still make a success of this disaster. Have a plan man, for self sufficiency. Then build river and sea…

That is about 7700, 10k, and about 8k per resident in Paixbouch, Calibishi, and bense respectively. Some people going get some pocket change for the summer. 3 months to go before peack storm season lets see what measures are used to ensure money was for purposes intended.
